24.01.2022 My first virtual conference. This was taken during my ‘acting years’ in 1997, just when I started Absurd Entertainment in the events industry. In truth, the first virtual conference I ever did was in 2010. Which is why after 20 years on stage and in front of a camera at business events I decided to rekindle my love of helping executive presenters by coaching camera presentation skills for virtual events. By the way, I love the copy in the ad saying now video conferencing is as close as the phone line.

22.01.2022 Do you look through the lens or at the lens? In virtual events, looking through the men's makes all the difference in connecting with your audience. Looking at the lens makes you look like a rabbit in headlights. Here's why.

20.01.2022 A conundrum when presenting to camera is that even though it is a mass medium you need to present to just one person.

18.01.2022 Most C-Suite and In-house presenters are excellent from a stage or in a board room. However, presenting to a camera requires a slight shift in skills to truly connect and get their message across. One thing to remember is that the camera exaggerates everything. #presentingtocamera #executivepresentation #virtualevents

11.01.2022 Nice piece in today's AFR. Although the evidence (check out HBR and others) points to the benefits and ROI of failing, it's interesting how difficult it is at times to still get your head to accept and act on failure, and more importantly your team's ability to accept and act on it. One small step at a time is a good place to start. https://bit.ly/35iLRpe

10.01.2022 The biggest challenge with virtual events is getting people watching to the end

09.01.2022 Beware Robotic presenters on camera! One thing I've noticed over 20 years which is extremely relevant now, is that when you put someone in front of a camera they become mechanical and robotic as presenters. It's not that they are bad presenters but because the camera is a different medium requiring different skills. Sure we are used to smartphones and webcams but when presenting through the lens of a professional camera, with studio lighting and a professional crew, it's different. So encourage your presenters to stop presenting and just chat with the camera, have a conversation, and most importantly be themselves. #executivepresentationskills #virtualevents #eventprofs #howtopresenttocamera #virtualpresentation #presentationskills
