22.01.2022 After a long, very intense, period of 7 day weeks/15 hour days, preparing for a 5 day defamation case in the Supreme Court, heard in late 2019, we finally got judgement today. An excellent result achieved! https://www.caselaw.nsw.gov.au/dec/1775c2937aab04c32596bd4a

21.01.2022 We recently made a submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality & Safety, on behalf of a number of aged care provider clients. It is a very sensitive area, with a lot of very vulnerable people, exposed to many dangers. There are some major flaws in the aged care laws, which we have highlighted to the Commission- "At the end of the day, a legislative regime that mandates that providers are required to continue to care for recipients, whose care needs are beyond ...their resources or expertise and/or who have become violent, is simply cruel and callous." If interested, a link to our submission is here https://www.dropbox.com//Submission%20to%20Royal%20Commiss

18.01.2022 GST on commercial property sales and purchases:- there is a GST ruling (GSTD 2006/3) which effectively says that GST is payable on rates and land tax adjustments, since they form part of the consideration for the sale. When you go online, all the big 5 accounting firms seem to suggest that GST is payable also. I personally thought this was a bit odd as rates and land tax are generally GST free. A lovely lady at the ATO confirmed today that the GST ruling is wrong and no GST is payable. A new GST ruling will be issued (in due course).

12.01.2022 Update on the horizon (pardon pun) - the NSW Court of Appeal has unanimously found that a by-law prohibiting the keeping of pets is harsh, unconscionable and oppressive. The Court declared the by-law invalid. Pets on the horizon. Bonza is totally horizontal (ie her usual pose).

06.01.2022 In a massive blow to our 4 legged friends (including our faithful office dog, Bonza), the Horizon Apartments in Darlinghurst successfully appealed against a decision forcing it to change its by-laws to permit pets. The Appeals Panel of NCAT found that a by-law prohibiting pets was not 'harsh, unconscionable or oppressive'. Bonza is not amused....
