04.02.2022 As Above, So Below Why capture everything above road level when pooled water on a steel access cover provides such a superb and still reflection The phrase like As above, so below has been used by theologians and astronomers alike throughout the eons to explain why and how the world works.... The concept implies that the stars in the sky are linked to life on earth, and that the microcosm and the macrocosm are connected. The human world is related to the larger universe - everything is connected. When modern science extended the reach of its observation to the galaxies above and the microbes below, it made a surprising discovery: an atom proved strikingly similar to a solar system. Both are comprised of objects kept in orbit by the gravity of an energetic core. Modern science has reiterated the wisdom of the ancients, who coined the very same discovery in the adage: As Above, so Below. When looking at the astounding detail of the human body, visual patterns are found that are reflected in other parts of nature. For instance, the dendritic pattern of your veins & nerve cells is mirrored in rivers, trees and leaves. Everything we can possibly discover either in the vastness of space or in the minutiae detail of the atomic particle level was created by God, so of course everything is connected Have a fantastic Tuesday my friends. Lets make the world a better place by paying it forward by being. kind to someone who least deserves it Nikon D7200 | Sigma 18-35 @ 18.mm | 15s | f16 | ISO100 | WB 3000k

24.01.2022 Golden Moments As the sun sinks below the horizon the city lights begin to twinkle and glow creating a few short moments of sheer golden perfection. This lucky couple enjoyed the quiet stillness of dusk from what I think is one of the best places along the river to watch the night come alive. There almost always seems to be a period in time between sunset and true night when the city seems to hold its breath, waiting to burst into vibrant, bright, and noisy life - a moment of... quiet peacefulness before Brisbane goes into party mode. The lowering clouds on Friday evening were a portent of the small rain shower to come later in the evening, but at this precise moment in time they provided a dramatic backdrop to the city skyline. Fortunately the rain was light and didn't last long, allowing the laser show to be captured by many photographers, including some from the #brisbanenikonisermeetups group. Shot on the Pixel 3 in night mode (my Nikon battery was being used by a poor lass who was booked for a photoshoot but forgot to bring charged batteries - I was more than happy to save the day) Where is your favourite place to just sit and watch the city, either during the day or after dark?

24.01.2022 Whip It! Just me and a pixel whip, in the mud, at night with friends, spinning madly across the frame After watching others in our group create their own unique masterpieces with the whip, I wondered what would happen if I were to turn off the auto colour change function and manually swap colours every second rotation - no I know!... Needless to say after playing around with all these light painting tools on the weekend, I am a convert. Now to find the best tools for the best price - I know from previous research that due to these being specialised pieces of photographic equipment they can often be quite wallet-draining! Regardless of the price I'd say the pixel whip in particular is worth every cent. Once again I thank my kind friends for inviting me along for the evening and for the fun times had (when are we doing this again?)

24.01.2022 Floating Reflection The incredibly colourful space beside 275 George Street showing one peice of the 'Husk, Kernel, and Returning' artwork installation at night. Husk, Kernel and Returning brings the story of the gentle fall from canopy to ground of seed pods into visual relief. Husk (shown) floats overhead giving an impression of the seed pods gently drifting on a breeze, with Kernel being the seed on the ground waiting to germinate. Returning appears to be slowly compostin...g back into the garden site in which it is based. 275 George Street soars to 171m and 32 storeys was completed in February 2009, and was developed by Charter Hall and constructed by Watpac. It was designed by Sydney-based firm Crone Partners. The principle tenant is Telstra, which occupies floors 2 - 22. Telstra's lease was the largest commercial lease in Brisbane's history when the building was first tenanted. Floors 23 - 30 are occupied by Queensland Gas Company (QGC) owned by Royal Dutch Shell. QGC is one of the largest Australian coalbed methane companies developing methane reserves within the Bowen and Surat Basins of Queensland.

20.01.2022 Time Check When shooting the city at night time is never a consideration, so to have the City Hall clock tower showing me what the time was in this shot is something I only noticed in post Here's some further information regarding City Hall: Serious problems were identified with the building, including subsidence, concrete cancer, a lack of reinforcing in the concrete and old wiring - so City Hall closed on 31 December 2009, for a three-year restoration project.... The restoration works involved replacement of all building services (electrical, mechanical, fire, hydraulic systems etc.), structural works to building interiors, dome and auditorium and conservation of the original heritage surfaces and building façade. The grand organs were removed from the building for the duration of the building works. The Museum of Brisbane was combined into a single venue on the 3rd floor. The Brisbane City Hall was officially reopened to the public on Saturday, 6 April 2013 following a re-dedication ceremony and celebrations. The renovation cost $215 million. Have a safe and happy Saturday everyone I'm off to share in the baptism of a mate from the Saints CMC, which coincidentally will be the first big ride with my brother who'll be on his shiny new bike

19.01.2022 Wildlife Wednesday I stumbled across this magnificent specimen whilst exploring the lakes at @uniofqld St. Lucia campus with friends and family on Saturday. Doing my very best David Attenborough impersonation, belly crawling as close as I dared (about 40cm away) to shoot this ground level perspective through the grass with the crystal clear Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Art lens. Water dragons are a very common sight around the Brisbane river, and can be found practically anywhere that th...ere is a body of water in the city and surrounds. Adult females grow to about 60 cm long, and adult males can grow slightly longer than one metre and weigh about 1 kg. Males show bolder colouration and have larger heads than females. Dragons are extremely shy in the wild, but readily adapt to continual human presence in suburban parks and gardens. They are fast runners and strong climbers. When faced with a potential predator, they seek cover in thick vegetation, or drop from an overhanging branch into water. They are able to swim totally submerged, and rest on the bottom of shallow creeks or lakes for up to 90 minutes, to avoid detection - now that's no mean feat. . NOTE: Large adult Water Dragons will appear confident and friendly however they should not be approached as they have very sharp claws and can deliver a serious bite! I can attest to this - in my typical style I learnt the hard way (infection from a bite, hospital, days off work!) Needless to say, whilst shooting this I was ready to leap out of the way in a flash

19.01.2022 Dry Dock Nights Located in the dry dock at the amazing @queenslandmaritimemuseum at Southbank, the HMAS Diamantina is named after the Diamantina River in Central Queensland. She is a river-class frigate that served the Royal Australian Navy: launched in April 1944, and commissioned at Hervey Bay on the 27 April 1945. Diamantina was committed to the Bougainville Campaign providing fire support to the Australian Army units operating ashore in July and August 1945. Transiting th...rough the Solomon Islands, on 7 July she shelled Sohana Island and then a week later provided counter-battery fire against Japanese positions on Taiof Island. At the conclusion of hostilities she carried Lieutenant General Kanda and Vice Admiral Baron Samejima, officers of the Japanese Imperial High Command to the surrender of Torokina on 8 September 1945. She was also involved in the surrenders of Nauru and Ocean Island on 1 October with both ceremonies conducted on her quarterdeck. After being retired into reserve in August 1946, she was then recommissioned as an oceanographic survey ship in June 1959. Diamantina's most amazing achievement during her second commission was the discovery of the deepest known part of the Indian Ocean on 7 February 1960, which was of course named Diamantina Deep. And she's still quite sea worthy: during the 2011 floods, the dry dock flooded but being well maintained and in good repair, she simply floated up from the dry dock with the incoming waters, with volunteers adjusting the ropes to prevent the ship bashing against the sides. She was completely undamaged! If you haven't yet visited the Queensland Maritime Museum I would strongly suggest that you put it on your @mustdobrisbane list - it is truly amazing to be able to explore practically every inch of this incredible ship and see what Navy life was like back in the day

19.01.2022 Shimmer When I crave reflections and it hasn't rained for what seems an eternity, I buy a bottle of water and make my own puddles By the time the rain arrived in the city last night it was already way past my mid-week bedtime so I didn't go out to shoot the city, and this weekend is looking too busy for me to even plan any night shoots in advance Ah well, it is supposed to be a wet Summer, so I'm hoping for that prediction to come true.... Here's to plenty of rain falling where it is need the most, in those regions of Queensland and Australia that are still parched and in drought

16.01.2022 Shades of Final: Afternoon Light Late afternoon sunlight shining on the graceful arches of the William Jolly bridge and the complexity of the Kurilpa bridge, with highlights of purple in the row of Jacarandas beside the river. The trees here are personal favourites of mine, creating pleasant compositions from ground level with the bridge in the background - especially at night. ... Something that I have sorely missed since the outbreak of Covid are the art projections on the William Jolly Bridge. These were a much loved, and much photographed part of this area, and it will be wonderful to be able to see them again... Hopefully you have enjoyed this series of shots with hints of purple bringing a splash of colour to your feed. Happy Saturday everyone DJI Mini SE | 1/800s | f2.8 | ISO 100 | WB5000k

16.01.2022 Synergy Synergy is the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements. And the Grand Arbor at @visitsouthbank definitely exudes synergy The Arbour looks utterly majestic after dark, with regularly spaced overhead lights to illuminate your late night strolls. The curved steel structure runs for a kilometre through Southbank Parklands from Griffith Film School on the corner of Dock and Vulture streets t...o the Cultural Forecourt just outside @abcbrisbane Officially opened in 2004, the arbor contains 443 individual steel arches linked by tensioned stainless steel cables upon which a stunning magenta bougainvillea canopy has been grown. I can remember when the arbor was first opened to the public, and I thought it was a quite a harsh metal structure - but now that the bougainvillea has completely taken over the structure I absolutely love it Designed by by Melbourne-based architectural firm @dentoncorkermarshall the arbor was installed by @Ronstan.tensile.architecture who along with the engineer @aurecon brought the complex design to life. A modified version of Ronstan’s AGSH single cable trellis system was chosen for its structural performance, refined aesthetics and longevity - and after 16 years it stills looks amazing. Engineering aside, this is the perfect place to take an evening walk in the city amongst the lush greenery that is Southbank Parklands

15.01.2022 Dust Bunnies! That moment in post edit when you realise that in the breezy conditions you've got dust on the glass The final @sunsuper_official Night Sky event by @foxalot went off beautifully on Saturday night, with a revised soundtrack and some different laser displays compared with previous nights offerings. Thanks again to my student for the evening Jennie @britblitz who requested we shoot above the @brisbane sign... So I'm putting it out there as of right now: if there are any budding photographers out there who want to learn to do what I do, classes are available - just send me a message for the details. Group classes or individual one on one training is available. The feedback that I have received this far on workshops that I have provided has been that I'm easy going and able to teach well Self promotion is not something that comes naturally to me, so it's a struggle to write this If you would like to know more DM me. Just remind me to check my glass for dust

15.01.2022 We're gonna kick some ass tonight We got the metal madness When our fans start screaming it's right Well alright, yeah... When we start to rock We never wanna stop again Hit the lights! Hit the lights! Hit the lights! (Hit The Lights: Metallica) Brisbane certainly hit the lights during the @sunsuper_official Night Sky which was operating every weekend in September! Add in a few jet skis and the Lady Brisbane for light trails on the water and this is the result. @brisbanefestival and @brisbanecitycouncil conjunction with @oracle_liquid brought the skies above the city and beyond to glorious life with this unique display created by audio-visual artist @foxalot (Robin Fox). Sunsuper Night Sky was the largest and brightest laser display of its kind in Australian history. Interestingly, all air traffic above the display elevation of 1000ft was totally unaffected, and air traffic lower than that level was diverted around the display. All laser beam termination points in the mountains were individually calculated for safety under the regulation 2.5mW per cm, and many beams terminated onto building surfaces within the city which were all inaccessible by people. Additionally every termination point was monitored by a team of spotters located on each building to ensure safety, with the capability to terminate any laser at a moment’s notice. I for one am hoping that Brisbane Festival 2021 sees the return of Riverfire - including the Night Sky lasers. Now THAT would be something to see, lasers beaming through the firework smoke

14.01.2022 Hey, turn off your mind and float around Surfing on a wall of sound Float down stream enjoy the ride Let her take you to the other side Come back, relax gaze at the stars... You can get there if you listen hard Close your eye's you can hear the sun Don't confine your mind to one Come walk with me through endless time Stay with me, can't you see You won't come down You won't come back Surfing on a sonic track We are, surfers of the mind (Surfers of the Mind - Def Fx) Something completely different for my Friday post this week... I have wanted to test the Pixel 3's water resistance so dunked it into a water feature to see how it performed (my curiosity was piqued!) If there are any hydrologists or other folk out there who know terms used in relation to water - is there a name for the underside of the surface of a body of water? Try as I might I couldn't find anything online to appease my curiosity (and I detest not knowing stuff) Oh, and those lyrics are from one of my favourite Aussie bands back in the '90's when I was a wax head living in Sydney and going to live gigs of local bands at the General Bourke If you've not heard this song I suggest you find it, it's a clever mix of electronica/heavy metal/garage/reggae that always put me in a great mood Happy Friday folks, the weekend is just a few hours away

14.01.2022 Teamwork I make no apologies for my feed full of colour this week, so if anyone is sick of seeing light painting shots already just keep scrolling Whilst watching other members in our little photography party work their magic using all the various light painting tools it dawned on me that mixing different methods together may work well.... You be the judge. This shot was created by Lisa on pixel whip with myself on light wand. The possibilities when using these tools are practically endless, and it's a good workout to boot I had such a great time on Saturday evening with everyone that I have already ordered my very own pixel whip - with so many creative ideas floating through my head (think city puddle shots with some added flavour!) Have a great Wednesday everyone, we're already half way to the weekend

14.01.2022 Underworld Brisbane's dark, and often deserted alleyways provide some of the most amazingly beautiful shots. Most people are hesitant to wander down spooky looking alleys, with empty kegs and bins...but I know that they are more often than not a night photographers dream. This little laneway is one of my regular haunts as there is a perpetual puddle here, formed by the constant dripping of condensate from nearby air-conditioning units. After rain however this puddle enlarges ...to provide even more substantial reflections of the Treasury building just across the street. What's even better about this little lane is that it's the location of @beanbrisbane which is the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city at night. Described as an 'underground laneway specialty coffee house & bar,' Bean is a warm and inviting place to enjoy a coffee and a great feed in a surprisingly quiet and ambient setting. The coffee, wine & beer are boutique/artisan, and the food is great value and incredibly tastyThe coolest part of Bean for me (great food, coffee, and ambience aside) is the entrance - you walk through and old red London telephone box to get inside! I love how Brisbane has completely embraced the laneway culture. Although I think we could still do with more laneways being used like this, at least we now have many wonderful little cafes like Bean tucked away where only those 'in the know' are aware of their existence - so now you know

14.01.2022 Calm Beginnings The eerily still river in the pre-dawn light reflects the Brisbane skyline - a vista that never ceases to amaze no matter where I view it from. That blue hour period when the city lights gradually fade from view, and the sunlight begins to show details that were previously hidden from sight brings a calm to the city that only really happens at this time of day. In a few short moments we will grab a coffee and begin our day, but it is such a simple pleasure to ...simply sit and watch the day begin in complete silence. With a start like this to my Saturday, I knew that good times were in store - and what a fantastic day it was with family and friends Happy Monday everyone, wishing you all a fantastic week ahead. Stay positive, we only have five days to go before we can enjoy yet another weekend Nikon D7200 | Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Art | Sirui AM-254 | 5s | F18 | ISO 100

13.01.2022 Moody Skies Having to retire early in the evenings during the working week is annoying to say the least, as I would much rather be out in the city chasing puddles That doesn't stop me from capturing the skies from my balcony whilst dinner cooks. The clouds were rather menacing just after dusk last night, but not a great deal of precipitation eventuated. I was actually hoping for some lightning - but the storm was not cooperating.... This is the first time that I have used the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Art on a non-city landscape shot, and I am impressed with the clarity and colour it delivers. The fine detail in this shot amazed me once I had a chance to view it on a larger screen than what the Nikon has! Hope you all receive plenty of beautiful rain over the next few days How wonderful is it to fall asleep to the gentle, soothing sound of rain on the roof

12.01.2022 I only smile in the dark My only comfort is the night gone black I didn't accidentally tell you that I'm only happy when it rains ('I'm Only Happy When It Rains' by Garbage)... I am at my happiest when it's dark and rainy, and the city sparkles with a freshness that only comes with rain. I thoroughly enjoy spending time in the city after dark, but when it rains the opportunity to shoot puddles and raindrops with Brisbane's light and colour as my backdrop beckons, and I simply have to capture it! As I'm composing this post, in a moment of self-reflection I realise that I am happy most of the time Life has certainly thrown some nastiness my way over the years, but I guess that with time all hurts can eventually be healed... I find myself feeling blessed with what I have: friends and family who care and are always there for me, a church family who are simply wonderful, a job that I enjoy, my health, a home, and of course my camera kit without which I would be lost! If ever I'm feeling bit low, I go for a ride/drive with the wind in my hair to clear my head, or spend time with friends or by myself shooting this fantastic city What is your happy place? I'd love to hear what everyone else finds their greatest pleasure

11.01.2022 Secure Whilst wandering the city last night in the rain, I stopped to watch the pedestrian traffic on the corner of Elizabeth and Albert Street - just a few happy people out enjoying the warm Queensland evening. It is still relatively quiet in the CBD on weekends, with nothing like the pre-covid crowds that I had become accustomed to for years. My puddle-radar spotted this small pool of water on the top of the metal base of one of the traffic lights, so it had to be captured.... I have deliberately focussed on the base plate retaining nut and the welded post base - the way the wet steel reflected the purple and red hues from nearby neon signs had captured my eye Finding the innate beauty of practically everything that surrounds us, even the most mundane, is a trait that I have almost always had and hopefully this comes across in my work. I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend, and that you've received a nice little drop of rain yesterday to refresh the garden and fill the tanks (coming home in the afternoon the rain was in fact so heavy on the Centenary Motorway that in places 60km/h felt reckless!)

10.01.2022 Morning Colour Happy first hump day of 2021 everyone How epic was the sunrise this morning My weather app tells me that we are in for a 38 day at work, so spare a thought for all of us working in the welding shop - it's going to be nasty!... Stay hydrated out there if you're exposed to the heat, and if you're fortunate enough to work in an air-conditioned environment enjoy the cool Here's to the cool change coming through tomorrow is all I have to say

09.01.2022 Raindrops One of the inevitabilities of shooting in the rain is getting water droplets getting on the glass, as evidenced in this shot. Crazy as it might sound, I think that the droplets actually create an interesting detail in this particular capture, or maybe that's just me putting a positive spin on what otherwise would be a failed shot This is the same fountain that I posted a shot of recently, and I was quite astounded at how very different the scene looks when the foun...tain is turned off and the water surface becomes mirror-still. The people in frame must sat very still for the ten seconds that the shutter was open too - I am unused to seeing people in my shots due to the majority of them being long exposures effectively removing people from the finished product! I almost managed to give myself reason to upgrade my trusty D7200 on the weekend, but I'll leave that scary story for later in the week... Let's just say that weather sealed does not mean waterproof (and it wasn't at this location in case you were wondering). We've made it to hump day already folks, let's make it a good one and set the cruise control toward the weekend. Is anyone else making a long weekend of it? I decided to take Monday off to give myself a four day weekend, followed by a three day working week Happy hump day all

09.01.2022 Quiet Contemplation The Nepalese Peace pagoda and accompanying fountain at Southbank is definitely the perfect place for quiet contemplation and reflections late at night on our city's coming of age . The pagoda was the Kingdom of Nepal's gift to Brisbane for Expo 88. Built using 80 metric tons of indigenous Nepalese timber sourced from the Terai jungle forest of Nepal, which was carted to the capital Kathmandu where it was hand-carved by 160 Nepalese families over a two year... period! The pagoda is definitely above and beyond the most beautiful building in Southbank. It is the only Expo international exhibit remaining on the site, and one of only three Nepalese peace pagodas outside the Kingdom of Nepal. This is not the original location of the pagoda of course, it was originally positioned elsewhere on the Expo 88 site. Its final resting place is between the Wheel of Brisbane and Rainforest Green on the riverfront where it can be easily viewed from the Clem Jones Promenade. Expo 88 was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday the 30th of April 1988 to much fanfare. The fair attracted more than 18 million visitors, more than double the predicted 7.8 million, and was considered a turning point in the history of Brisbane. With Expo 88 Queensland transformed itself from a northern backwater into Australia's most progressive state. The event certainly changed Brisbane, and Brisbane local's mindset forever Who else remembers the six month long party that was Expo with great fondness?

08.01.2022 Green City The Eastern end of Albert Street in the mall is not an area I've shot before, but it definitely has a certain something on a rainy night. The shimmer of the rain on the granite pavers captures and scatters the colourful lights from the intersection, making rainbow patterns across the ground. The trees that have been planted here also make for an interesting scene in the heart of the CBD.... The mall is all but deserted late on a Friday night when I am most likely to be shooting the city, even more so when it is raining. I enjoy the dead of night, when the city becomes much more peaceful and calm, which is such a contrast to the hustle and bustle of the waking hours. Due to a big weekend spent with friends and family I didn't get to shoot the city over the weekend, so this is one from a couple of weekends ago. Here's hoping I find a few spare moment to get into the city this weekend, and that we get some rain like we're having now

07.01.2022 Chaos Theory Who could have ever imagined that jet skis could look so amazing on the river? A special night, the last time we got to watch the @sunsuper_official Night Sky laser display at the conclusion of @brisbanefestival The laser patterns and some of the accompanying soundtrack were different to previous evenings as well, as the grand finale I suppose - and those jet skis!... Lit with loads of vibrant colours, they certainly do make astounding, if chaotic, patterns in long exposures. And to cap things off the Yot Club made a stunning return to the river city water traffic. An evening spent tutoring a new friend who wanted to learn the best methods of capturing the laser display, light trails, and many other night shooting techniques in our stunning city. A night well spent indeed

07.01.2022 Skylights Last night the @sunsuper_official Night Sky laser display lit up the city skyline for the third last time. Even though we had a brief rain shower, that was not enough to put much of a dampener on things, and the cloud certainly made for some welcome detail in the sky, with the spotlights highlighting some areas. Some members of the #brisbanenikonusersmeetups Facebook group gathered along the river to capture the spectacle, with everyone capturing some great shots a...nd learning some new skills along the way, which is what we all strive for. Every time I go shooting in this gorgeous city of ours I find new ways to see everyday scenes, or discover a new technique - which is what keeps us learning and growing as photographers The view from my motel turned out to be a fizzer with regard to the lasers, but the city looked magnificent from that particular location (those shots will be posted over the next few days) So it would appear that anywhere along the Kangaroo Point reach is definitely the prime viewing spot - so if you are planning on watching this amazing event, that's the spot to be

06.01.2022 Floating Colour Milky way season may be over for the year, so we have to create our own Nebulae closer to home With the lights of Bribie Island in the background and a few whispy clouds this view was just what we needed for learning the energetic art that is light painting. The muddy sandflats of Scarborough probably have never seen the sheer amount of colour as what was being flashed around last weekend, and the locals may have wondered what in the world was going on at the...ir quiet beach! This wild pattern was whipped up by Rob @robb.2505 as one of the last shots of the night using the pixel whip. Nice moves there Rob, that random action works beautifully mate

06.01.2022 Aussie Roads I departed the city early this morning after a fantastic night of shooting, and was cruising towards home when I saw this beautiful big Roo, just standing in the left lane like he was entitled Fortunately I am more than used to driving late at night and am always aware of potential for wildlife hazards (I have kangaroos that frequent my yard)... Lucky for this beauty there was practically zero traffic on the highway here when I passed through at 0130 (I didn't even see any even trucks Westbound for the entire hour-long drive home). This Roo was actually on the bridge over Ironpot creek at Blacksoil just past the new Caltex, so I had to wait for it to hop along the road until the end of the bridge. Hopefully it decided to remain safely in the scrub for the remainder of the night

05.01.2022 Shades of Part Seven: Spring Storms Storms on the radar? No prizes for guessing what I was doing last night With springtime not only do we get to enjoy the Jacarandas in bloom all across the city, but we also get to enjoy the fantastic natural light show that more often than not accompanies storms... I decided to shoot from Wilson Outlook Reserve last night given the storm's path, and the fact that the bridge was lit rather nicely in Green, Aqua and Purple to support the Eve of World Teachers Day. The second shot here was actually taken first whilst the storm was still west of the city. Now THAT's what I call a lightning strike! This one certainly got my attention when it completely lit up the sky above, as it did of the revellers at Howard Smith Wharves as a cheer went up after this strike happened Now that's the Brisbane spirit, a little thunderstorm won't put a dampener on the start of the long weekend celebrations, and who doesn't love a free light show? And the first shot? Well, after the storm had moved around to the east, I simply HAD to capture some lightning behind the jacaranda tree Have a most happy Ekka Day holiday everyone (for those having the day off) It seems odd to be having Ekka Day without also having the Ekka...but I'm not complaining Nikon D7200 | Tokina 11-16 @ 11mm | 20s | f14 | ISO100 | WB 2500k

04.01.2022 The Man Behind The Mask What a fantastic way to spend a Saturday night, in the company of good friends on a quiet Brisbane beach on a balmy Springtime evening creating photographic art with fire and light This is me in the middle of the frame - I decided to throw caution to the wind and do a spot of steel wool spinning once more, this time making sure that I had my bandana firmly in place (last time I tried spinning I increased my bald spot with a few stray embers!) It was s...uch a fun evening that I was more than happy not to arrive home until after midnight: just one more spin, just one more... It is amazing what patterns and textures are able to be captured when doing light painting in any form: with no two shots being the same. Manipulating the shot with a 90 rotation and a face-like image appears, providing the title of this shot. This is a style of shooting that I really should do more often Thank you so much to all who participated: Jen and Robyn for providing the most excellent light painting tools, Lisa and Rob for spinning and their imaginative ideas on how to use the lights for best effect, and LiLi for actuating my shutter release whilst I was playing with fire Most of all, thanks guys for the company, and the laughs we share every time we manage to catch up

03.01.2022 Ahoy Me Hearties! Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day Here be a scarcity rare shot of meself and me first mate Malachi, about to board ye witchcraft powered city cat (not a sail in sight) - not a boat made for plundering, unless we be planning to plunder views of the city... Have all a perfect weekend ye yellow bellied landlubbers

03.01.2022 Night Life The trees spanning the entire length of Little Stanley Street are lit with thousands of fairy lights after dark, making for a truly dazzling evening stroll. Throw in some late night traffic and the results are simply magic The dining precinct between Grey & Little Stanley Street is my go to for late night meals, and why not given the huge range of cuisines on offer - especially set in such a beautiful location. Being spoilt for choice means that you can find a gre...at meal here regardless of your tatse or cravings. Just don't leave it too late in the night however: when we arrived here at 10:30pm on Saturday night after spending hours shooting the parklands most of the kitchens had closed for the night. There was one dining destination still open of which I was previously unaware: the @barbossa_southbank. Barbossa is a Caribbean inspired bar & kitchen known for it’s fine cocktails, and Caribbean inspired food menu. The best thing is that the kitchen doesn't close until 1am on Saturday nights I can envisage dining here regularly when shooting in the city, as I don't generally remember to eat until around midnight anyway (I can thoroughly recommend the Rum Glazed Pork with pineapple slaw) Where is your favourite late night dining venue in Brisbane when out and about shooting? I'm keen to know the best late night eateries all over the CBD (just in case I'm not feeling like walking to Southbank)

01.01.2022 Empty No, I didn't sneak out last night to shoot this, but this is how I expect the Brisbane Queenstreet Mall would have looked last night in the rain - completely devoid of people Given it was a Friday night, and was rainy, I would normally have been found thoroughly enjoying myself chasing puddle reflections around the city. But it was not to be unfortunately. That's okay, it will rain again throughout the year so I'm certain to capture more of our beautiful city reflecte...d in pools of rainwater. It is sad that everyone's weekend plans are in tatters, but we're in this fight against the spread of Covid together so let's follow the guidelines to keep the entire community safe Stay safe out there Brisbane, enjoy an enforced break at home to recharge and relax. Please don't panic buy, there is really no need as our food is NOT going to run out anytime soon (neither is toilet paper) Have a great weekend at home everyone, make the most of what you have and be thankful
