19.01.2022 Nillumbik Shire Council Subsidised Equiculture Course Nillumbik Shire Council has teamed up with Equiculture to provide discounted Equine Land Management education for Nillumbik residents. Face to face courses are impossible right now, however the Equiculture course is completely online and perfectly Covid-safe! The Equiculture course is developed by horse people, for horse people and has been designed to promote healthy equine behaviour and good welfare outcomes, while impr...oving the land on which your horses are kept. The program encompasses 15 modules to cover all aspects of property management, design and layout and can be completed at your own pace. Some of the key learning areas are: -Understanding equine behaviour and needs -Healthy soil and pasture -Managing weeds -Mud, dust and erosion control -Manure management and gastrointestinal worms -Paddock layout, shelter and shade The program is internationally renowned and is already used on many properties throughout Nillumbik. Completion of the Equiculture course can also be incorporated into the Pony Club Australia K or C* certificates within the New Skill component. 18.01.2022 The Equine in Nillumbik Plan is available for comment until 5.00pm Thursday 18 June. This plan identifies that support for local clubs, safe trails and facilities that meet the needs of riders are important. Take this opportunity to comment now.

16.01.2022 Something to be excited about - the Diamond Creek Trail is heading to Hurstbridge! This is a meandering, creek side trail for horse riders, pedestrians and cyclists, with a dedicated natural surface trail for riders. Congratulations to council and the many community members who have nudged this trail along from a vision to a reality. We will update you as the stages are open for use.

12.01.2022 Some very exciting news for our Nillumbik Equine Community with the unanimous adoption of the Equine in Nillumbik Plan by council tonight. We sincerely thank all councillors for their consideration of the 175 submissions in support of this plan and their genuine desire to see horse riding and ownership equitably included as an important sport / recreation that has been under-resourced to date. Thank you to all who took the time to participate in the consultation.

08.01.2022 Consultation is now open on the Plenty River Trail in Plenty Gorge Park. Whilst walkers, runners and cyclists are catered for, there is currently no provision for horse riders. Safe, off-road trail circuits for horse riders could be provided in the Northern section of the park on both the East and West sides of Plenty River, leaving from and returning to Yarrambat Park in Nillumbik. Have your say before the deadline of 13 December.



07.01.2022 Exciting news! We are thrilled to start work on Stage 2 of the extension of the Diamond Creek Trail following the official turning of the first sod today. Minis...ter for Environment, Energy and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio was joined by Yan Yean MP Danielle Green MP - Member for Yan Yean Eltham MP Vicki Ward MP for Eltham Nillumbik Mayor Peter Perkins, Deputy Mayor Frances Eyre and councillors for the event at Wilson Reserve in Wattle Glen. Stage 2 will see a 3km shared-use trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders from Diamond Creek to Hurstbridge and is expected to be completed later this year. It will link to Stage 1 of the extension from Diamond Creek to Wattle Glen, which is very close to finishing stay tuned! Stage 2 has been funded with $5.1 million from the Victorian Government through the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Suburban Parks Program. The Victorian Government has also funded Stage 1 of the project, providing $4 million through VicRoads’ Towards Zero initiative.
