25.01.2022 Welcome to Allanah at Ulverstone Neighbourhood House ! After training today she can help people access NILS loans. Just as she accessed herself at UNH to help partly furnish her young families house before she started work at UNH. And shout out to Ingrid at Tresca Community Centre who has assisted hundreds of people to access NILS since 2009. What an awesome network of 418 loans officers from 73 delivery partner organisations across Tassie making sure people can access safe affordable credit every day.

25.01.2022 Big shout out to @ NILS Network of Tasmania’s 350 plus volunteer loan officers around the state who enable our clients to apply for their loans each and every day. During the current restrictions they have adapted and changed with us and have enabled over 520 loan applications during March and April. Together we have enabled families to purchase over $100 000 in much needed education technology so that their children don’t miss out with the switch to online learning. Same period last year was $6000. Thanks team, you’re amazing. #changing communities #changinglives #NILSvolunteersrock

22.01.2022 Education Dept. advice for parents to keep children home if possible from Monday 30th March 2020, means many may find that they are in the situation where they do not have the technology (laptops, tablets etc) to enable their children to keep up with their schooling requirements online. NILS Network of Tasmania can help parents with the associated costs of purchasing a computer, laptop or tablet through our Education Loans. If you receive a Centrelink benefit you are eligible... to apply. There are no fees, no charges, no interest ever - and we provide loans from $300 to $1500. You only pay back exactly what you borrow. The repayments are made through Centrepay deduction and the maximum repayment amount is $40 per fortnight (on a $1500 loan). NB not cash loans - you provide the quote, we purchase the product accordingly and you pay us back. If this is something that may help you out in this very unprecedented situation we are finding ourselves in please go online www.nilstasmania.org.au or call 1300 301 650 to put your enquiry in. (NILS TASMANIA is a non profit community Organisation funded by the Tasmanian Govt and supported by the Federal Governments through our partners Good Shepherd Microfinance. NAB provide our capital)

16.01.2022 We are still open and working! While we don’t want people to take on unnecessary debt at this time, if you need an essential household item or service, PLEASE contact us first rather than a pay day lender or rent to buy company. Remember with NILS you only ever pay us back the cost of the item no fees, no charges, not ever. Some of our delivery partner organisations may be closed, but many are still open and will offer to process your application over the phone, if they c...an’t do it face to face. 1300 301 650 or register online nilstasmania.org.au to see if you're eligible. Stay safe all.

14.01.2022 Surely with COVID 19 and the necessary restrictions causing massive financial stress for so many people across Australia, NOW is the time for the Government to protect people with better (any?) regulation of pay day lenders? Draft legislation has been sitting in Federal Parliament for over 1000 DAYS!! We wait and we wait and we wait for action by the Federal Government to minimise the harm these lenders do.

13.01.2022 Aurora Energy has established a COVID-19 Customer Support Program supported by a $5M Customer Support Fund specifically to help our residential and small business customers impacted by the pandemic. As Tasmanians ourselves, we know it’s a difficult time financially for a lot of people in our community. We are committed to standing alongside our 280,000 residential and small business customers. This Program will allow us to help people pay their energy bills and allocate more resourcing to people experiencing hardship through things like bill relief, waiving fees and charges, freezing debt, payment plans and more.

13.01.2022 If you are in need of a NILS loan, to begin the application process you will need to put an enquiry in first. You can do this by either jumping on our website www.nilstasmania.org.au and click the enquire now button or give us a call on 1300 301 650. You will then be sent an information pack which will give you the next steps of how to submit an in application

13.01.2022 Enough is enough! Pay Day Lenders are using the Coronavirus economic impact to entice people into their web. PLEASE PLEASE contact us at NILS Network of Tasmania to see if we can help you before you turn to these predators. NILS is community lending. No fees, No Interest, No Charges ever. And please share the NILS option far and wide. And to the pay day lending industry that keeps claiming that their business are not exploiting people and evidence is "anecdotal"...... why do you keep fighting legislation to limit the damage your loans can do? If your industry is so legit... what do you have to fear from better regulation? Happy to debate you publicly any place any time anywhere..... John Hooper CEO NILS Network of Tasmania #overit #timeforlegislation

11.01.2022 Are you the Finance Officer we are looking for? NILS Tasmania is rapidly expanding and revising our operations thanks to State Govt funding to help us meet the increasing demand due to the economic impacts of the Coronavirus on Tasmanians. We are seeking a fastidious, knowledgeable Finance Officer with impeccable attention to detail and a good knowledge of different accounting and financial management software. Our new Finance Officer must also have initiative and creativity ...to help us refine and improve our financial systems while we keep delivering high impact no interest loans to our clients. The successful candidate will be someone with a commitment to team, a sense of fun and a willingness to dig in and do what has to be done to assist our clients.

10.01.2022 "Given the desperate economic circumstances that many people find themselves in right now, we know that the rent-to-buy and payday lenders will be quite eager to offer their services to people and trap them in that debt cycle that so often leads to bankruptcy," John Hooper NILS CEO. In 2016 the federal government promised to crack down on payday lending practices and reduce risks for vulnerable customers, however Mr Hooper said little action had been taken to date. "The gover...nment committed to action three years ago and again two years ago and again one year ago," he said. "They can get a billion dollar coronavirus stimulus package up in a couple of weeks so why does it take three years to get legislation around payday lending. This should have been done years ago." At least Federal Liberal MP Bridget Archer MP - Liberal Member for Bass (see yesterday's examiner article text in comments) has called for action by her own Government. Gavin Pearce MP also has supported change. However we just continue to hear "we're working on it" from all other Tasmanian Federal Liberal MPs and Senators over the last three years. We have previously congratulated the Federal Government for investing in the NILS scheme nationally as part of their COVID 19 response......but we continue to be stunned that a simple piece of legislation continues to be too hard. Seriously?????? (John Hooper NILS CEO) Eric Abetz Senator Jonathon Duniam Senator Claire Chandler Richard Colbeck Senator Wendy Askew

01.01.2022 The Stop the Debt Trap Alliance said the Australian community was already at crisis point due to high household debt and said payday lenders, which can charge interest rates of more than 400%, were ready to take advantage as unemployment numbers skyrocket. There’s only one course of action if the government wants to help people keep their heads above water: pause all payday lending and rent-to-buy activity for at least six months.

01.01.2022 No interest, no fees and no charges - ever. If you’re now on a concession card, or know someone who is, please let them know about us as an option ! We want to help....now, more than ever!
