14.01.2022 Yesterday I caught up with John Allen and Leila Wedd in Redfern to discuss mainly believed be the first time non aboriginals asked to be Welcomed to country. Th...e story goes at a meeting leading up to the Nimbin Aquarius Festival, Australian Union of Students organisers John Allan and Graeme Dunstan were asked if they have notified the elders of the area about their plans. So it came to be Lyle Roberts conducted a Welcome to Country ceremony. After the meeting I did a bit of detective work around The Block across the road from were we held our meeting. I found it was replaced by a students housing block named after alternative housing legendary champion Col James who was instrumental in selecting recycling Nimbin town for the Aquarius Festival.
