23.01.2022 Good effort today Julian Rooney; attending your first emergency fire response. Joining as a 12yo in 2015, your road to full membership has been productive: a regular at Nimbin and Blue Knob training & meetings, providing logistical support/ crew welfare during the Mt. Nardi Fire and finally gaining your Bush Firefighter accreditation earlier this year. Across five years, you’ve demonstrated how the decision to keep Junior Membership within our constitution can make a difference. Great to have you as part of our team, Julian.

22.01.2022 Thanks for the quick response... also to Nimbin & Blue Knob brigade members, Police and Ambos.

20.01.2022 Very High Fire Danger today, Saturday 28.11.20 for NSW Northern Rivers. All fire permits suspended for next 48hrs. Tomorrow is likely to be a total fire ban, with severe conditions forecast.

18.01.2022 Helicopter Insertion Techniques (HIT) recertification for Northern Rivers, Far North Coast and Northern Tablelands volunteers today at RFS - Northern Rivers Zone. Thanks to RFS Operational Support for helping keep the Remote Area Units’ skills up.

17.01.2022 Good conditions for today's valuable car fire training and competence maintenance. New and experienced Nimbin and Blue Knob members worked at safely extinguishing two car fires just north of Nimbin. Thanks again to our trainers, Jamie Macdonald for the cars and Warren Ollie for hosting us on his industrial pad.

15.01.2022 So easily avoided. Previous fire permit visit included the condition to relocate the burn pile... which was done before lighting. No problem last fire season. Jump forward 8months. Steep woodland with tinder dry ground fuel remains, yet previous advice ignored: pile rebuilt in wrong site, no permit sought, nobody notified. Could have gone wrong in so many ways.

09.01.2022 Update: Level 1 restrictions to fire permits from Tuesday 10.11.2020 until further notice. Fire Danger increasing this Saturday. No large piles or bush burning. Written fire permits continue to be available from brigades, but will limit all burn activities to 24hrs.

09.01.2022 Confirming that Sunday 29.11.20 will be a TOTAL FIRE BAN for the entire northeast of NSW; extending west and south along the coast. Please report any local fires not attended by NSW RFS brigades.

08.01.2022 Successful collaboration between Nimbin and Jiggi Valley RFB yesterday, with a little hazard reduction, serving as live fire training for some new and older firefighters. Sticking to the burn plan, we postponed a separate HR for another day. A good, controlled beginning to our 2020/21 fire season. Thanks to all involved; from the NE Command Mitigation Teams & Nimbin locals who helped prepare the containment lines, to the volunteer fireys, helping out on their long-weekend holiday.

08.01.2022 Before the heat of today’s TOBAN conditions set in, brigade volunteers managed to schedule a relay pumping exercise. Hoping for a quiet, rest of the afternoon. Fire danger tomorrow remains high, but the local permit suspension will be lifted from midnight tonight. Fire Danger Rating is currently expected to rise midweek.

06.01.2022 Update: The August 2020 reconnaissance & fuel load assessments of strategic trails for Nimbin and Blue Knob brigades, has resulted in the reopening of a disused logging/ paper ridge road. Collaborating with land managers, Blue Knob members assisted residents today in providing valuable, emergency access to their properties. These locations are not publicly accessible, but become a significant asset to the brigade’s knowledge base.

06.01.2022 Nimbin, Blue Knob and Stony Chute brigades will be engaged in live car fire training today, Sunday 01.11.2020, just north of town near Crofton Rd x Blue Knob Rd. We expect significant smoke will be visible, moving east up the Mulgum & Goolmangar Creek valleys.

05.01.2022 Stony Chute, Blue Knob and Nimbin RFB members gathered today for two 3hr sessions of MVA (motor vehicle accident) training. Rescue, fire suppression and traffic control elements discussed and put into play. Kudos to our inter-brigade training team and special thanks to both Johnny MacDonald for the wrecking cars and Warren Ollie for the out-of-town site... we couldn’t do this without your community support.

01.01.2022 *updated* Wadeville grassfire in Nimbin 7, with Hanging Rock 7 this morning... a timely reminder that today 22.11.20 is a Very High Fire Danger and Monday 23.11.20 is forecast to be Severe FDR. All permits suspended.
