23.01.2022 I was Miss Nice for many years. Hated saying No to people because I was so afraid of offending them. One day I realised that people had started taking advantage of this habit of mine. It was then that I learned to put up boundaries. If you always put yourself last and constantly say yes to unreasonable requests from friends and family, you'll be filled with resentment. Get into the habit of drawing a line. (Pic is a snippet from Chapter 17 of my 2nd book 'Unlock The Real You')

22.01.2022 "Gosh, Nim - you're such a busy woman. Your poor kids. How do they manage to get any quality time with you?" she asked sweetly, sarcasm dripping from every word. There was a pause and we looked at each other. She smiled and waited. I smiled and replied: 'Oh, they manage." The smile vanished from her face. It was so obvious she had expected a different response. Probably me trying to justify and explain and give examples. I did nothing of the sort. The woman barely knows me......knows nothing about my journey...Why would I spend any energy or time (both finite resources) trying to win her approval? The silence after a deeply personal question is asked is the killer. Many people fall into the trap of rushing to explain because they want to fill that pause. Don't be tricked. You owe most people no explanation at all. Nim Gholkar, 2020 #ALittleWiserALittleHappier See more

20.01.2022 Many years ago when I was a student of English Literature, we studied a play called 'Dr Faustus' by Christopher Marlowe, where the central character sells his soul to the devil to gain power which he then uses for all the wrong reasons. The key phrase is he 'sold his soul'. In this modern world of ours, there are countless people who seem to have sold their souls...It's difficult to figure out who is fake and who is genuine. In the war between good and evil, so many hide thei...r true faces behind false masks that it's impossible to decide who to trust. There are many things happening around the world currently that may tempt you to become cynical and bitter and stop trusting everyone around you. I just want you to have faith and remember that there are still countless people in this world whose souls are NOT for sale, who will not abandon their values or morals just because of peer pressure. It takes a while for good to triumph over evil - it's a slow train but it will arrive eventually. Until then, don't give up. And remember, your soul is not for sale. As Scott Alexander once said: 'All good is hard. All evil is easy. Stay away from easy." Nim Gholkar, 2020 #ALittleWiserALittleHappier See more

14.01.2022 Please don't tell me about all the wonderful things you've planned in your retirement...how you will read books written by wise philosophers...how you will meditate and reflect....how you will pursue hobbies...how you will nurture meaningful friendships instead of 'keeping up with the Joneses'.... What guarantee do you have that you'll live that long? What guarantee do you have that even if you do, you'll have the physical or emotional strength to enjoy all those delights? Wh...y not spend five minutes each day doing a little bit of what you've planned for your retirement? Don't reserve the best aspects of your personality for the last part of your existence. Reach out and clasp the present moment...embrace it...live it.... Someone once asked me: 'When will I be truly happy?" And I replied: 'This moment...if you so decide". Happiness is a decision. You don't have to wait until retirement to discover it. Nim Gholkar, 2020 #ALittleWiserALittleHappier See more

13.01.2022 I watched a movie the other day where the hostess of a dinner party was pretending she had cooked all the dishes, when in fact she had ordered it from a restaurant. This is an unfortunate reflection of real life too. I have often seen people reluctant to reveal they've used ready-made paste almost as though it's something to be ashamed of and as though the only way to be validated is by grinding all the spices yourself. Let me announce quite happily that I adore my 'idli-dosa...' batter mix (bought from the store) which makes the most divine, fluffy idlis and there are certain curry mixes (rogan josh, butter chicken) that I'm totally in love with. I personally know some amazing chefs who can make the most delicious meals effortlessly and all from scratch, without using any ready-made options and I salute them. That's an art and a skill. It's a skill I don't possess The point I'm making is that using ready-made pastes or powders or mixes doesn't mean you're a failure. Neither does it mean you're insulting your guests. And it certainly doesn't mean you're not a good wife/mother/daughter-in-law/friend/hostess etc etc. If you enjoy cooking things from scratch, more power to you. And if you don't, more power to you too. Life is an adventure. It's not an exam where you have to constantly be top of the class. Enjoy xxx Nim Gholkar, 2020 #ALittleWiserALittleHappier See more

11.01.2022 How to be CONFIDENT ON CAMERA : Tips for effective FB Live Vudeos.

09.01.2022 "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." (Albert Einstein). Growing up, I was never any good at the sciences or maths or geography or history or.....The ONLY subject I was really good at was English. For a few years, I tried to master maths and physics. But that only served to make me doubt myself even more and it completely destroyed my self-confidence. And then one day, I decided to dedicate my life to mastering what came naturally to me instead of constantly trying to excel in a subject that would never be my zone of genius. So, my friends, true confidence is born when you do what you love and you're good at what you do. Nim Gholkar, 2020 #successcafe #Book4 #comingsoon

06.01.2022 The perfect marriage

05.01.2022 I'm excited about the upcoming launch of my 4th book SUCCESS CAFE. There's lots on the menu in this cafe - and all the nourishing. nuggets of hard-earned wisdom will help you navigate everyday life more effectively. One of the chapters is 'There will always be nay-sayers'. A big life lesson I've learned over the years is to resist the temptation to believe those who tell you it can't be done. When I gave up my corporate career a few years ago to follow my heart and write boo...ks that touched lives, there were at least half a dozen people who told me it was a foolish decision. I was SO TEMPTED to believe them. At times, their voices were far louder than my inner voice which was urging me to go ahead. Thankfully, I resisted the temptation. Your inner voice is often far too gentle to be heard. It's up to you to tune in and truly listen to what it's trying to say. I hope each of you recognises that voice and figures out when it's time to obey its instructions. Nim Gholkar, 2020 #SuccessCafe #followyourheart See more

03.01.2022 Taking a walk on Aksa Beach, Mumbai 6 months ago, I saw a couple arguing at the top of their voices. She burst into tears and he stormed off. Watching them made... me ponder on why so many people in this world are unhappy. Wouldn't it be great if there was such a thing as The Perfect Marriage? Hmm....but can such a thing exist?
