23.01.2022 Supplements: Are supplements good or bad for your health? Supplements are not necessarily bad for your health, they become bad for your health when you become too reliant upon them and it is bad when your body really doesn’t need them. It is kind of like taking medications, you don’t want to overdoes, as it will lead to toxicity in the body, just like supplements. Having too many can also lead to toxicity in the body, causing vomiting, nausea, headaches, etc. This is why the...re should be a good balance when taking supplements and be cautious about how many you are taking. I would recommend to only take types of supplements that your really need such as vitamin D and calcium, Iron, folic acid, etc. A way to monitor vitamin and mineral intake is by going to the doctors and getting a blood test done. This particular for vitamin D and calcium, Iron, folic acid, etc. Another way to monitor your supplement intake, is by labelling each supplement you are taking and placing them in an order of the day and time you take them and record which ones you have taking on which day and at what time in a diary, so you know Not to overdoes. A daily pill dispenser box, is a great way to monitor your supplements. Taking a combination of supplements can increases the chances of toxicity, so just be cautious. It is highly recommended that you if you are experiencing vomiting, nausea, headaches, etc. after you have taken the supplement then go to your doctor straight away and stop taking the supplement, until advised by the doctor. I would advise against taking any supplements you really don’t need, as most foods will have the nutrients needed for the body to function adequately, especially the macro-nutrients: Protein, carbohydrate and fat. Having fortified foods such as cereal or milk that contain iron, vitamin C, calcium, etc, is a better way to get the nutrients you need. In saying this please Don’t panic if you have accidentally taking too many supplements such as two or three multi-vitamins a day, you will be fine. Just monitor your symptoms and see how you feel. If you notice an extreme change in your body after taking the supplement, like dizziness, vomiting, diarrhoea, migraines, etc, that is out of the ordinary, then see your doctor immediately. 14.01.2022 IS GLUTEN BAD FOR YOU? Gluten gets ‘bad wrap’, and the trend is you must be gluten-free. Not because of being allergic or sensitive to it, just because everyone is doing it. If started off with people being scared that they would get bloated every time when eating gluten or scared that they have an allergy to it and a possible connection to autism. This is how the trend started. ... But people don’t realise how much gluten is in their everyday diet and that it’s not that bad. There are many forms of gluten, this includes wheat, rye, barley, couscous, processed soups, gravy, soy-sauce, and many others. This doesn’t necessary mean that all gluten is bad, it all depends upon what is in these products. The ones with a higher amount of fibre, is better, such as rye, barley and whole grain/ wheat bread. In saying that you are not bad if you have gluten in you diet, except if you are allergic to gluten, That is a BIG NO! However having gluten-free products can be healthier for you, depending on the type and if you are allergic to gluten. Products such as quinoa, rice, but particularly brown (as it has a higher fibre content), gluten-free pasta, corn, millet, sorghum and others are all types of grains which have a high fibre content. So before considering taking gluten out of your diet completely, see how you feel when eating it. If it does make you feel sick, please do have the gluten-free option. Take a look at the Harvard resource below, to make up your own mind about gluten. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/gluten/ https://www.baker.edu.au//BakerIDI-factsheet-gluten-free-s
10.01.2022 Which type of cuisine is the healthiest? There has been a lot of debate about which type of cuisine is the healthiest. I think lots of people like to think that their cuisine is the best and the healthiest. But research shows that consuming a Mediterranean diet, is known to be the healthiest. This is because it includes a variety of all types of healthy foods such as seeds, nuts, grains, fish, some meat, fruit and vegetables. As we know consuming these types of foods will he...lp protect against heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, etc. In saying this. I am not suggesting that the cuisine you are having isn’t all that unhealthy, as long as there is a variety of healthy foodstuff as suggested above. If you do know that the type of cuisine isn’t very healthy, then I suggest to incorporate healthier food, maybe have less red meat and replace with fish. They are always ways in which you can make your diet healthier (if it is unhealthy). But DON’T put yourself at danger when trying a new diet and DON’T give yourself such a hard time, if you have a cheat day and slip up, by eating something unhealthy. We all have those days, as long as it doesn’t happen often. Also DON’T make dramatic changes that your body can’t handle, allow your body to get used to a new diet, by incorporating healthier foods slowly, until your body is used to it.
