17.02.2022 One of three permit we caught and released yesterday on the Exmouth Gulf flats. #ningalooflyfishing #flyfishing #flatsfishing #saltwaterflyfishing #ningalooreef #exmouthgulf #permitonfly #bonefish #gianttrevally #costasunglasses #nervouswater_anz #cortlandline #thomasandthomasflyrods #shiltonreels @nervouswater_anz

02.02.2022 After getting way too many refusals on the flexo crab I delved through the fly box and found some trusty Chardonnay Crabs. Two casts later I had two permit and then my mate Leigh Freestone landed this one.

24.01.2022 Another, but sadly last day with the Worldcast group today. Two permit and a big queenfish on my boat. A very nice marlin on fly for the boys fishing with Ben Knight, as well as lots of teased billfish, some hooked and lost, which is standard with teasing billfish on fly. This permit is definitely a T. blochii with Mike Dawes (Normal Mike"). I think the permit that Mad Mike landed in my previous post is an anak? Compare fin length, nostril shape, head shape...... I didn’t notice it while we were taking the photos but Mad Mike is a fair distraction.

24.01.2022 This is what happens when I ask my mate, who has shared a few quiet beers with me, to take some photos of my very first T. anak caught today on the Exmouth Gulf flats. He hit the video button on the camera instead of the photo button, several times.

23.01.2022 A nice cobia for 12 year old Lucas today on light spin tackle. Lucas' dad Gary was having his fly getting smashed by some nice Spanish mackerel at the same time but we had to leave them to chase this cobia.

23.01.2022 After a few weeks off the water it was nice to get back on the Exmouth Gulf flats today. The water was cold so we knew it was going to be quiet but we spotted a pod of GT cruising straight at us across the shallows. I made an ok cast but this queenfish appeared from among them and scoffed the fly!

23.01.2022 A very nice permit on the Exmouth Gulf flats for Tim today. It was second cast of the day, but Tim said the first cast was just a sighter!

23.01.2022 Today we found a big black ray loaded with cobia, golden trevally and GT on the Exmouth Gulf flats. After Bryan snapped off a 60 pound cobia, Dave swapped to his big fly rod and caught this big golden trevally.

22.01.2022 Andy joined me today to learn to fly fish. It was a steep learning curve when this queenfish grabbed his fly in shallow water on the Exmouth Gulf flats and headed for the horizon, jumping along the way.

22.01.2022 IGFA have opened up the record books for IndoPacific permit. Jed Mixter who fished with me this week, pictured, is the current world record holder for IndoPacific permit. If anyone out there wants to beat Jed they’ll need a permit heavier than 18.1 pounds. But there are a lot of categories open for IndoPacific permit on fly.

22.01.2022 John Jardine was very happy to catch and release his first ever permit today on the Exmouth Gulf flats.

21.01.2022 The second of two permit for Mike Dawes on the Exmouth Gulf flats today, this one actually jumped about five feet into the air after it’s first run and there was no shark involved?

21.01.2022 Took my neighbour Captain Murray Pattison out today to look for a permit. They were a bit scarce but Muzza managed this very nice permit. We won't mention the next permit that he hooked and snapped off on the fly that took me half an hour to tie yesterday!

21.01.2022 Hookup for Mark Turner on fly on the Ningaloo flats yesterday. A big school of golden trevally.

20.01.2022 A permit for Don Muelrath first cast today on the Exmouth Gulf flats.

20.01.2022 My first permit for 2021 on the Exmouth Gulf flats today. Just a rat, but somebody has to catch them given most of my clients are shut out of WA!

20.01.2022 Mike with the second of two permit he sight cast on fly today on the Exmouth Gulf flats, this one is just a rat compared with his first today.

18.01.2022 Andy joined me a few days ago to learn to fly fish on the Exmouth Gulf flats. This is a thumper of a queenfish he caught and released in very shallow water today.

18.01.2022 A nice permit for Mark Turner today on the Exmouth Gulf flats.

18.01.2022 On the way to the Ningaloo flats today I spotted a few tasty crayfish. I put the MinnKota on spot lock, grabbed my goggles and snorkel and within a few minutes gloved three of these brutes for dinner.

18.01.2022 Bryan with his first ever permit today, sight cast on fly on the shallow Exmouth Gulf flats.

18.01.2022 First permit for Tim today on the Exmouth Gulf flats. Before today Tim had only caught a handful of fish on fly!

17.01.2022 I've been waiting 17 years for this moment, when my son Sam can drive me to the Exmouth Gulf flats and then drive me home. In the next few weeks we will hopefully post some photos of some really great fish that most of our clients are eager to join us for some more great permit and GT action.

17.01.2022 The first photo is of Heron Point in Exmouth Gulf with one of my clients, Andrew Martin, about to release a nice permit. The second photo is what Subsea7 are trying to do at beautiful Heron Point in Exmouth Gulf. At the same time Gascoyne Gateway are trying to build a deep water port to service the oil and gas industry just a few miles north of one of the best permit fisheries in the world and beautiful untouched marine environment. Please go to https://consultation.epa.wa.gov.au//epa-strategic-advice-/ and help save a beautiful part of Western Australia's coastline.

16.01.2022 A magic day out on the Ningaloo Reef lagoon today for Simone's birthday. The fly rods were mostly left in the rod racks, Sam and I did however negotiate a quick look for a GT. Sam got a half shot at about a 60 pound GT. Jessica and I then had a snorkel to look for some tasty crayfish, the water was a very comfortable 28 degrees! I found this monster cray, Jess guarded the back door and I went in the front door and nailed it. I'm guessing well over 4 kg!

16.01.2022 A permit for me today on the Exmouth Gulf flats. My mate Leigh Freestone also got his first permit. #ningalooflyfishing #flyfishing #flatsfishing #saltwaterflyfishing #ningalooreef #exmouthgulf #permitonfly #bonefish #gianttrevally #costasunglasses #nervouswater_anz #cortlandline #thomasandthomasflyrods #shiltonreels @nervouswater_anz

16.01.2022 I have had some superb permit tides freed up today for 20-27 November this year. This is prime time permit fishing and we have some really nice permit feeding on the flats this year. If these dates don’t get filled you will see photos of me with permit like this one.

15.01.2022 It was just one of those days today when most things go wrong. Big permit, some small pods of XXL GT swimming up to us, and cruising metre plus queenfish on the Exmouth Gulf flats, but we didn’t quite make it happen for various reasons that summed up our day. This juvenile permit was a consolation prize on a day that could have been way better, but we fully had the fishing Gods offside today.

15.01.2022 A modest Ningaloo bonefish for Murray Pattison today. We had some shots at some XXL GTs.

15.01.2022 I sight cast this brute of a GT on my fly rod inside Ningaloo Reef today. Thanks to Captain Murray Pattison for some good boat driving to keep me on the fish. I repaid the favour a few hours later when Muzza hooked and landed a bigger GT on fly.

14.01.2022 Another permit for John Lewis today on the Exmouth Gulf flats. This one is T. blochii, Dave also caught a T. anak.

14.01.2022 I’ve had some east coasters give up on the idea of being let into Western Australia in November, so some prime time permit and GT fishing dates from 20-30 November have been freed up to fish Ningaloo and Exmouth Gulf.

14.01.2022 There were literally hundreds of golden trevally feeding on the Ningaloo flats today. Unfortunately we were looking for permit, GT and bonefish. Muzza caught this golden trevally by mistake trying to pull his fly away from a huge school of them.

14.01.2022 Mike Dawes caught two nice permit with us today on the Exmouth Gulf flats. Just after we pulled the boats out we spotted a big black bull ray cruising the beach right where we pulled the boat out. The ray was loaded with big cobia and golden trevally, this golden trevally was the hungriest.

14.01.2022 My clients had a lot of fun today sight casting flies at a lot of big queenfish in shallow water in Exmouth Gulf. We also saw some big permit but had the wrong fly rods in hand.

14.01.2022 This big permit almost spooled me today until we chased it across the Exmouth Gulf flat. It took me 45 minutes to land it and I was pulling very hard as there were a lot of permit around, and I wanted my fishing buddy to get one as well.

13.01.2022 The tides were bad for permit fishing today so Murray Pattison and I decided a GT mission on fly inside the Ningaloo Reef was the best plan. When Muzza hooked up this brute on a brush fly, all hell broke loose. A brute like this hooked in very nasty country tests all of your fly gear and boat driving skills. A very memorable capture and release on fly!

13.01.2022 Simon and Dylan Tucker had a lot of fun today casting flies at a lot of big fish in shallow water on the Exmouth Gulf flats.

12.01.2022 Don Muelrath was pretty happy with this permit sight cast on fly on the Exmouth Gulf flats today. It was permit number 60 personally for Don so an important milestone. We watched some very nice GT swim past in very shallow water!

12.01.2022 First permit for my mate Leigh Freestone on the Exmouth Gulf flats today. I caught one too. #ningalooflyfishing #flyfishing #flatsfishing #saltwaterflyfishing #ningalooreef #exmouthgulf #permitonfly #bonefish #gianttrevally #costasunglasses #nervouswater_anz #cortlandline #thomasandthomasflyrods #shiltonreels @nervouswater_anz

12.01.2022 My son Sam Wolf, pictured below with his little sister Jessica (Sam is 6 foot 3 plus so Jess is not short, just petite like her Mum) is shaving his head on the 30th of March (his 17th birthday by coincidence) for the World’s Greatest Shave. Please donate as the leukaemia foundation is a great cause, and please share the link to your family and friends. It will be the only decent haircut Sam gets for the year. Please sponsor this great cause at http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/samwolf

12.01.2022 Finally, the Western Australian border is opening to the east coast of Australia. It is prime time permit and GT flats fishing which are normally booked a year in advance. Thanks to CV-19 we have space. We have already booked up two weeks with regular clients in the last few hours, but still have plenty of space for great permit and GT fishing for this summer. So we hope to take you fishing soon.

12.01.2022 IGFA have opened up World Record categories for IndoPacific permit on fly. We caught a few potential world record permit this week, but when the permit are on they are on, and a few words in a book are not quite the same as sproinging another sight cast permit on fly that is digging up clams and then pouncing on a well presented clam fly. This is Jed Mixter, with not the world record fish, but could easily be in any of the open line classes, just a rat he caught with us this week on fly on the Exmouth Gulf flats. Jed is the nicest most casual bloke you will meet. I look forward to taking Jed fishing for permit again soon.

11.01.2022 Captain Murray Pattison did a great job today to drive my boat and help me land a great GT on fly inside Ningaloo Reef. I was very happy to repay the favour a few hours later. This is Muzza with a very solid GT sight cast on fly! One each on fly was enough.

11.01.2022 Just to top of his 2 permit landed today, Jed Mixter enjoyed some serious jumping action in shallow water from this thumping queenfish on the Exmouth Gulf flats.

10.01.2022 When we launched the boat in Exmouth Gulf this morning Dave said he wanted big fish that pull hard...

10.01.2022 This is just a call out to all of our regular international and interstate clients. We are ready to take your bookings as soon as our borders are open. The skies in Exmouth are rarely cloudy, like in this photo. Rare cloud meant that I had to resort to catching this barramundi on my fly rod in Exmouth Gulf, rather than chasing permit and GT on our shallow flats. We look forward to taking you guys fishing again as soon as you are allowed back into Western Australia!

10.01.2022 Two permit in two casts is pretty good for Don Muelrath on the Exmouth Gulf flats. Yesterday he caught a very nice permit last cast of the day and today first cast this little rat permit. Don thought he was a sure thing for 3 permit from 3 casts! Soon after we found another permit feeding in very shallow water. The third one tailed 3 times while I was lining up Don for a cast, this turned out to be too much excitement for Don, a dump cast followed and the permit disappeared into deeper water.

10.01.2022 Permit season is just around the corner at Exmouth Gulf and Ningaloo. Owing to travel restrictions brought about by CV19 we have plenty of space to accommodate West Australian fly anglers through the upcoming prime time permit and GT fishing months.

09.01.2022 Kevin sight cast and landed 2 black spotted tusk fish on fly today on the Exmouth Gulf flats. This one needs to visit the dentist.

08.01.2022 We were supposed to be on a GT mission today but Mark Turner couldn't help himself when we spotted a school of big golden trevally feeding on the Ningaloo flats.

08.01.2022 Just after Jed Mixter landed his first permit today, my Minn Kota remote control died. It was really bad timing as we had permit feeding all around us and the current was strong. I was in and out of the boat towing it left and right across the flat to line up the feeding permit and there were plenty. Very difficult to guide under those circumstances. Jed did well to hook up and land his second permit of the day!

08.01.2022 A very nice permit for Jed Mixter on the Exmouth Gulf flats today. Jed backed it up soon after with another nice permit.

08.01.2022 We were on a permit mission today on the Exmouth Gulf flats, but Andrew Martin couldn't resist throwing his fly in front of this massive golden trevally!

07.01.2022 We were on a permit and GT mission today on the Exmouth Gulf Flats today, but I couldn't help casting a fly at a school of these big guys.

07.01.2022 Big trevally hooked up and way out into the backing on the Ningaloo flats today for Rick Adams.

07.01.2022 My clients today had a lot of fun casting flies at schools of Indo-Pacific tarpon in Exmouth Gulf.

07.01.2022 Very rare to see my two main fly boxes so neatly arranged. When the borders open up hopefully all of my interstate (and eventually international) fly fishing clients can help me turn these boxes back into the shambles they normally are!

06.01.2022 We took my son's mate out on Exmouth Gulf to catch a fish that pulled very hard. After Reuben landed his third big golden trevally and they had both been punished by other big fish, we decided enough was enough! We left the fish biting. These boys are big lads at 6 foot 5 and 6 foot 3 respectively so they are big goldens!

06.01.2022 A nice ride to work this morning in Exmouth Gulf to catch permit on fly. We eventually found the feeding permit, but permit are permit.

06.01.2022 The water on the Exmouth Gulf flats has warmed up early this season bringing big GT and permit onto the shallow flats. Thanks to CV19 we have plenty of space to take West Australian anglers fishing over the next few months.

05.01.2022 A lot of queenfish in shallow water today in Exmouth Gulf. Great sight fishing action on fly for Jake Pers.

04.01.2022 The first Aussie bonefish for Aaron Bonser on the Ningaloo Reef flats today. We also had shots at some XXL GT.

04.01.2022 A nice permit for John Lewis today on the shallow Exmouth Gulf flats.

04.01.2022 We found a lot of permit on the Exmouth Gulf flats today, but they were tough to fool with a fly -maybe this big hammerhead had them on edge?

04.01.2022 Some big queenfish and permit on the very shallow Exmouth Gulf flats today that were hungry for a well presented fly!

03.01.2022 Check out our article in the latest Western Angler magazine about the great fly fishing at Ningaloo and Exmouth Gulf.

03.01.2022 More great sight fishing action on fly in the Exmouth Gulf shallows today. Rob Radley was happy with his PB queenfish. Rob also had some shots at some very nice GT.

03.01.2022 Two more Boxing Day permit for me today, this solid T. blochii and a T. anak on the Exmouth Gulf flats.

03.01.2022 I went for a little bottom fish today with Ben Knight and his old man Dave outside Ningaloo Reef. Dave caught this sailfish by mistake and a yellowfin tuna and Spanish mackerel.

02.01.2022 We found quite a few permit feeding and tailing on the Exmouth Gulf flats today. This one pounced on Tim’s well presented fly. The fly was tied by Ningaloo Fly Fishing regular Stephen Cooper.

02.01.2022 Mike with one of two very nice permit he sight cast on fly on the Exmouth Gulf Flats today.

30.12.2021 After seeing her brother catch a permit my daughter Jessica is very interested in catching a permit. Gotta start somewhere and this nice spangled emperor gave her a great fight today on fly at Ningaloo.

15.12.2021 The very best moment of my fly fishing career today- watching my son Sam hook and land his first permit on fly on the Exmouth Gulf flats.
