Listen to 2018 graduate, Michael, discuss his interpretation of experiential learning at NIODA during the Master of Management and Leadership (Organisation Dynamics) and how this applies to the age-old proverb.

When asked what Michael wished he knew at the beginning of the Masters he said: 'At the beginning of the course, I am glad I didn't understand all that I know now... If I'd known what was going to be exposed I may not have had the heart to proceed. Having done through the course, I am incredibly glad I did.'

21.01.2022 With Victoria's recent success of 13 days straight of zero COVID cases through heavy restrictions, if you live in Australia you can be forgiven for feeling isolated from the global rise of COVID-19. Just at the beginning of the first lockdown NIODA hosted a masterclass with Professor Kenwyn Smith which investigated the idea that COVID-19 parallels to HIV/AIDS as illness gives us pause to think and reflect. There is a particular focus on, economics, the environment, the human condition, how much the world is shaping us, and how we are shaping the world. The masterclass was recorded and we are thrilled to give you the opportunity to listen to Kenwyn Smith's insights.

08.01.2022 This Friday at 4pm (AEDT) join Kate Dempsey as she launches her latest book. This book is a conversation about justice from two perspectives; that of a theologian and a systems psychodynamic trained consultant who test out ways to describe and explain intrenched inequalities. It is in three parts as it (1) summarises the academic work of John Bottomley over his career as a Minister and social researcher. (2) It outlines the breadth of John’s writing over time on a broad rang...e of justice issues and summarises the key issues he raises and (3) it reflects on big questions for anyone who works for government, in community services for the poor or disenfranchised and offers advice for contemplating matters of justice from many different points of view. It is a conversation across disciplines and it therefore aims to build bridges and add to the range of voices to be heard on issues of justice. Please RSVP to [email protected] and she will send you the zoom address to attend.

03.01.2022 post-graduationAlumni Spotlight This week's alumni spotlight is a familiar face to many, Susan Campbell, who graduated from NIODA in 2018. Susan graduated with the honour of the John F Newton Award for academic excellence, her dissertation addressed the dynamics of overbounded and underbounded organisations and the impacts of these dynamics on task effectiveness and human connectedness at work.... Susan has worked for 15 years in the not-for-profit sector in roles including organisational development, leadership and management, learning and development, organisational change, cross-cultural communications and mentoring. We were lucky to have Susan continue her connection with NIODA post graduation as a member of the Academic Board of Governance.

02.01.2022 This week's Alumni Spotlight shines brightly on Helen McKelvie. Helen was in NIODA's first graduate cohort in 2017 and has since stayed close, joining the teaching staff in 2018, and in 2020 taking up a new role helping to coordinate the Master's program and undertaking consulting projects for NIODA Consulting. She is also continuing her studies in NIODA's pre-doctoral program. Helen has used the systems psychodynamic lens she gained with NIODA to change the way she takes up the work role she has held for many years. This lens informs her approach to creating reflective space for respectful communication and connection, opening up the possibility for learning and greater alignment with organisational, and team role and purpose. Helen has a background in law reform, research policy and legal management.

02.01.2022 "During a conversation about the characteristic of the Master's, I remember John Newton said it wraps around whatever you do, well I respectfully and playfully dare to disagree with you Professor Newton, it does not wrap around, it gets deep inside. It can't be unwrapped and discarded like the pretty paper under the Christmas tree it seeps into all sorts of surprising places." Enjoy Susan Campbell's wonderfully poetic and witty address to the graduands at NIODA's 2020 graduation ceremony. Watch the full address below.

02.01.2022 In 2018 Deb Martindale (Organisation Dynamics master's graduate) addressed the NIODA graduands. This heartwarming speech provides a new level of insight into the student experience of Organisation Dynamics. Deb explains the feeling of seeing the world through a new lens, feeling like she was now donning a pair of 'Biggles-style aviator goggles', only to realise... the goggles were here to stay. Nothing can escape the new lens; team conflicts, project inertia, scapegoating, collaborative initiatives, global politics, and even family Christmas is now viewed and experienced differently. The way Deb recounts her experience of being in the workforce with her new perspective is both relatable and perceptive. Read full address on our website.
