If you are living with MS or know someone who is, ask them to call MS Connect for more details on how to join the support group MS Connect - 1800 042 138 This group will meet once a month at a local cafe and is a chance to have a casual cuppa and a chat.... The first meeting will be from 8-10am on Friday June 22nd. Living with MS can be hard, isolating and invisible. The journey can also offer unexpected rewards and insights. This group will have a specific focus on wellness and sharing good news stories as well as supporting each other through the hard stuff. Giving and receiving practical and emotional support can help you understand a recent diagnosis, manage your symptoms and live well with multiple sclerosis. 19.01.2022 Dance your way to greater intelligence! For centuries, dance manuals and other writings have lauded the health benefits of dancing, usually as physical exercise. More recently weve seen research on further health benefits of dancing, such as stress reduction and increased serotonin level, with its sense of well-being. Most recently weve heard of another benefit: Frequent dancing apparently makes us smarter. A major study added to the growing evidence that stimulating one...s mind by dancing can ward off Alzheimers disease and other dementia, much as physical exercise can keep the body fit. Dancing also increases cognitive acuity at all ages. Full article here x See more

19.01.2022 I am officially now an MS Ambassador MS Ambassadors promote awareness of MS (multiple sclerosis) and also share their own journey with this unpredictable disease with honesty and humour, courage and determination. You can book me to share my story with community health groups, with health and medical students, at universities and schools etc. Daring to hold onto hope" Living with the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis has been the biggest challenge of my life, is how Nissa ...Lee describes her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis a decade ago, a neurological disease that effects over 25,000 Australians. Following a degree in Social Ecology, Nissa Lee enjoyed a career working with vulnerable youth on community garden projects and healthy eating initiatives in Mt Druitt, NSW. She also travelled the breadth of Australia. Sudden neurological symptoms including difficulty walking, loss of balance, fatigue and pins and needles throughout her body led to a visit to the emergency department and a consequent diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at the age of twenty-four. With the support of her family, friends and community, Nissa focused on providing her body with the nutrition, rest and movement that it needed to recover. Although her future felt quite bleak at times, Nissa continued her training in the martial art Aikido which assisted her to regain her strength and balance. Another light on the horizon was being awarded a MS Limiteds Go For Gold Scholarship which enabled her to complete an Advanced Diploma in Naturopathy. The MS Ambassador Program warmly welcomes Nissa Lee to our team who hopes to share with Newcastle how her diagnosis has made her stronger, wiser and a more compassionate person who is daring to hold onto hope. ____ If you would like to book an MS Ambassador, please free-call MS Connect on 1800-042-138 or email: [email protected] (for VIC Ambassadors), [email protected] (for NSW). A link to my profile and story on the MS website is here https://www.ms.org.au//ms-ambassad/nissa-lee-phillips.aspx
