Designed and constructed by Mackay’s very own Nissen Quality Cabinetmakers (NQC), this stunning, galley-style masterpiece is the recipient of not one but two prestigious HIA Townsville and North Queensland CSR Housing awards: Kitchen of the Year, and New Kitchen ($30-$50,000). This particular entry reportedly impressed HIA judges with its creative use of product and design features, some of which include unique double-island benches and an eye-catching granite frame. Each morning, I feel a sense of calm and complete contentedness wash over me as I enter my kitchen to put the coffee on; this amazing space invites the surrounding landscape into my home it’s my peaceful sanctuary, Lesley said wistfully. Situated in the centre of the house, the kitchen capitalises on The Leap property’s 180-degree mountain views, and is accessible from both sides of the wrap-around verandah. It even suits our personalities, Lesley added. We’re down to earth people, easy-going and we love to have our family and friends around us. This space has been purpose-built to suit us down to the ground, and it’s functional and timeless. NQC owner/operator Erik Nissen said a renovated kitchen had the potential to value-add tens-of-thousands-of-dollars to a home; on top of the initial outlay. In my experience, what you spend on your kitchen, could easily be recouped, in addition to 50 percent of that expenditure if you were to go to market; having said that, when you’ve built the kitchen of your dreams, you likely won’t want to sell, he said with a laugh. Erik’s secret to success: Listening to our clients’ needs. Every home and every individual and family is different. We spend a lot of time talking to our clients so we can adequately accommodate their personalities and lifestyle needs and wants; it’s only after all of this preliminary groundwork that we launch into the design phase. We spend as much time as the client needs in the design phase. Upon design completion, we invite the client into our showroom to view a 3D computer replica of their new kitchen, along with a range of high-quality sample materials.
