19.01.2022 What have you done lately that put you outside your comfort zone? Today my family completed the beginner, intermediate and ‘extreme’ course at Treetop Challenge Tamborine Mountain. Over the years I’ve become afraid of heights so this was a bit of a personal achievement. Here’s mini me going down the final zip line. She was keen to go to the Treetop Challenge but as we drove in the doubts crept in. I’m scared. So I gave her positive words and encouragement. She climbed the... first ladder onto the platform, hooked herself onto the wire and off she bloody well went. I was so proud. And from that point she did not need to hear a single word. She had won. And then it was my turn. Legs a bit shaky and heart starting to race, up the ladder I climbed. Upon reaching the platform I felt the lump of fear in my throat, my legs wobbling and my hands gripping tightly onto the tree. At that moment I could have easily let the fear engulf me - I’ve been there before and I didn’t win. But I couldn’t allow my own fear to take over me when my daughter had so bravely gone before. So today I took a different approach. I used the calm, positive words that I’d just used on my daughter on myself. I won’t lie, I was crapping myself myself but I held it together and I clipped onto the wire and I leapt off that platform. I did it! I felt the fear and I did it anyway. Helen 1 - Fear Of Heights 0 I hope you have some little wins this week too.

11.01.2022 Shout out to all the visual learners out there! I’m a visually dominant learner. I like to see what it looks like and I think often in pictures. Words are not enough for me. Others learn best through the actions of doing. Some like to hear instructions. ... One size does not fit all! Include everyone by using a variety of ways to get your information and feedback across. You can purchase coaching whiteboards but I enjoyed adapting this one from Kmart with some el cheapo electrical tape from the dollar shop. I saved $20 and I get a satisfied feeling because I did it all by myself, I don’t even mind the wobbly lines.
11.01.2022 Who wants to play fun, sociable, non competitive netball on Thursday nights with fun, sociable people? Nitro is a unique netball experience. Nitro is not like club netball or Indoor Netball. This is 100% NON COMPETITIVE fun netball for your fitness and enjoyment. ... No keeping score Music which adds to the fun atmosphere Opportunity to play different positions No set teams When? 7-8pm Thursday’s during term time Where? Holy Family Catholic Primary, Indro (inside) Who? Over 12s. Mostly adults but a couple of juniors do play with their Mums (which is lovely) How much? $96 for the remainder of the term (8 weeks).
09.01.2022 Well, what a year 2020 was. None of us were expecting that curve ball, but something great came out of the overnight decimation of my business in March when I was forced to think outside the box. My income had completely dried up so I began 1:1 coaching. Starting slowly and ramping up with quite some speed, seeing clients before or after ‘home school’ weekly. Sometimes twice a week. In the later stages of lockdown when small groups were permitted I worked most of Saturday t...oo. I worked harder than ever from April to June. Through the 1:1s I met some wonderful people who brought their girls to me to keep them active, to enable them to continue to experience the sport they were missing because of the virus restrictions. I know that I helped with their mental health and I know that they helped me with mine too. I enjoyed getting to know those girls. And now, some of their Mums are themselves playing netball each week with Nitro. And they’re bringing their girls along, those lovely girls I spent all those hours with during lockdown, and they’re playing netball together. How great is that! So 2020, goodbye. Thank you for the opportunity you presented.
09.01.2022 3 generations enjoyed playing walking netball together this evening. I think their smiles say it all.
08.01.2022 Warming up for the last warm up game before Western Districts ‘CoronaStyle’ Season 2020 kicks off next Saturday. Who’s excited??
07.01.2022 Netball games over the holidays As those who play day season at Wests will know there are 5 weeks with no scheduled matches due to the Easter school holidays and other public holidays. To bridge the gap I’m running games at Wests on 2 of those weekends; ... 10-12 years 0845-0945am 13-14 years 10-11am 17th April 24th April Limited places left. Anyone from any club (or no club) can play. Message me for a place. $10 to play.
07.01.2022 THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU To my wonderful 8 o’clockers, Every week you come to netball with smiling faces and a great sense of humour and fun. It’s always a blast. This week you brought cake and flowers for my birthday. So thoughtful. ... Thank you Happy birthday to me. How lucky I am to have met such cool people through my ‘work’.
05.01.2022 I have some spaces for Back to Netball on Sunday evenings at Moggill Sports Park. What is it? B2N is a fully coached session with approximately 30-40 mins of game play as well as covering specific skills and doing some fun team ball drills (always hilarious!)... I ensure there is a very supportive environment for players to re-engage with netball or to learn how to play from scratch. 100% non competitive. Who plays? Most players are Mums, many of whom have young teenage daughters who play netball and they wanted to join in too. There is no fitness level or playing experience required. Don't let the negative self talk stop you from having a go. You won't be; Too old Too unfit Not good enough OR Let the team down These are all things that many players have told me they worried about before the first session. The good news is they all loved it and all came back! The hardest part really is having the courage to come along and join in. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Helen x
05.01.2022 6 weeks of evening games on offer for 10/11 & 12/13 years players. It’s a big yes please from me! More opportunities for our kids to play netball in this write off 2020 year. Thanks WDNA, you are the best!
05.01.2022 I love this photo. Passing in front. To get across the concept of ‘passing in front’ and ‘passing to the space’ just look at this. It illustrates perfectly the meaning of passing in front. See how the player in the middle is driving onto where the ball is...and how the player behind who’s defending her can’t quite reach it. Pass TO the space just in front and those pesky defence hands won’t quite make it. Pass to the PLAYER and the defence will get it.
04.01.2022 The importance of knee bend on the shot, illustrated beautifully here in this clip. Thanks SPAR Proteas As the distance increases, more energy needs to be generated by the quads/glutes. This power is created by the knee bend and then sent through the body all the way to the tip of your fingers on release. Swish!
02.01.2022 Please note the further time at WDNA on Saturday afternoon 1-3pm and Kmart Indooroopilly after that.
