23.01.2022 A picture is worth 1000 words. Or is it? The group of brown leaf-less trunks you see are dead palms from an infestation of the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle. In just a few years the population of palms went from 13,200 to 3000 in island’s capital, Honiara. It was a biosecurity crisis that could become a national catastrophe. Will the beautiful picturesque scenes of eye-popping blue waters, powdery beaches, and palm trees become a thing of the past? Read more about what we are doing to combat the spread via this link https://www.niulife.foundation/post/picture-worth-1000-words #coconutrhinocerosbeetle #niulifefoundation #villageforlife #sustainableagriculture #virgincoconutoil #socialenterprise #coconutcommunities #solomonislands #kokonutpacific #coconuttechnologycentre

23.01.2022 So far DME Virgin Coconut Oil is the only fully ‘organic certified’ export for the Solomon Islands. This could not have been achieved without the establishment of the Coconut Technology Centre whose focus is on training and maintaining the processes required for internationally recognised organic certification. Read more about the Coconut Technology Centre project on our Website. DME (Direct Micro Expelling) is a technology designed for a ‘village-based’ small business to produce Virgin Coconut Oil. It minimises urban drift, is gender neutral, there is no waste and has no negative impact on the environment. #niulifefoundation #niulife #villageforlife #dme #directmicroexpelling #sustainableagriculture #virgincoconutoil #kokonutpacific #coconutcommunities #solomonislands #coconuttechnologycentre

18.01.2022 Kokonut Pacific developed Fair Dinkum Fair Trade" when no other suitable set of standards existed in response to a need to express what was happening on the ground at a ‘village’ level. As a result, Kokonut Pacific was proactive in implementing the fair-trade principles with its DME technology since its inception in 1994. For this we developed our own logo to reflect our passion for justice and fair trade. Kokonut Pacific is associated with not one but three fair-trade mode...ls: Fair Dinkum Fair Trade, FairTSA & NASAA Social Justice Policy. 13.01.2022 Locals turn to healthier mode of cooking during CoVID-19 lock-down. Smoky firewood is a major cause of respiratory illness in the Solomons, but since lock-down the sale of the healthier alternative, Charcoal Stoves & Charcoal has skyrocketed. Since 2015 The Coconut Technology Centre (CTC) in Honiara Solomon Islands started making Charcoal Stoves but only sold around one a week.. 11.01.2022 How one woman is changing Marovo Lagoon. This is Hellen Saera Hilli’s Story. Hellen’s father earned 8 shillings a quarter as a Pastor working extra hours on plantations so he could send Hellen to a ‘white-man school’. Hellen recalls life being hard, walking miles to school and sometimes with only one meal a day, but believes the hardship was foundational in making her strong and resolute to never give up on life. 11.01.2022 Within a few days a whole village turned from burning wood to charcoal. We went into lockdown and everyone who was not from Honiara had to leave and return to their respective villages. These were the Government measures to avoid the COVID-19 pandemic. My home village is Kokomuruka, on the south west of Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. In the evenings Kokomuruka is synonymous with pillars of smoke emanating from many small huts Read more on our website via this link https:/.../www.niulife.foundation//a-near-smokeless-evening-b Building village-based business using sustainable agricultural resources.
