20.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all my guitar students! I know youll be enjoying it all - hopefully you will enjoy some practice too over the Christmas season. Remember...the best way to practice is for short periods! Grab 5 or 10 minutes to have some fun with that new song youre working on. Maybe play it for the family? Just practice a FEW things for a SHORT time OFTEN! Its the best way to practice.... Enjoy!!! See more

15.01.2022 Here's Dylan playing Ed Sheeran's song, 'Perfect'. Great job Dylan, you're doing so well! Congratulations!!

15.01.2022 As a guitar teacher, I sometimes hear people say that their fingers are too short or too fat to play guitar. Yet many great guitar players have very short fingers. Its really not about finger length or thickness....its all about hand position! Drop your thumb lower on the back of the neck and bring your hand forward - then you can easily reach. If you cant play full chords, play partial chords first and then add more fingers as you progress. This simple idea makes all the difference.

15.01.2022 Would you like to play guitar? To have the ability to play songs you like with the simplest method around? Will you play along to a practice video for less than 15 minutes every day to become a guitar player? If so, click this link: https://youtu.be/lSmkvNBmPag Each step of my system is accompanied by an easy-to-follow video that you can practice and play along to at home. A little time spent each day will have you playing songs you love without the frustration. If youd like to know more or try my lessons, check out my ad on gumtree: https://www.gumtree.com.au//guitar-lessons-and/1155167600

15.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Jett on passing your entrance into the SIMS music course with the 2nd highest mark!! WELL DONE JETT!

13.01.2022 Learning to read guitar tablature is easy and its so useful as a learning tool. Here is an easy to understand tutorial for you. My school students will be doing more on TAB reading next term so have a look. https://youtu.be/6-8rqLzlid4

12.01.2022 Many people think that learning to play guitar is hard...and it can be....if you make it hard. Learning to play guitar requires just a few simple steps, repeated day in and day out, over a period of time. My step by step practice sessions are less than 15 minutes and each session is accompanied by a play-along video, which shows the student exactly what to do. This makes learning to play guitar simple and easy. Trying to get there too fast or listening to the voice in your head that says you cant do this is what makes it hard. Just do what you can and be consistent. Anyone can get there - you too, if you have the patience and the want to.

09.01.2022 Heres Taliah playing Broken by Seether. Nice picking Taliah! Keep up the good work! https://youtu.be/vEKIUCqkpmE

09.01.2022 My classes will be focusing on songs this term. Much more fun that way.

09.01.2022 This is a second strumming pattern. Its the same as the first one, except that you dont hit the strings on the first upstroke. This makes the pattern more rhythmic and therefore, more musical. As always, play slowly and aim for as few mistakes as you can.

09.01.2022 I am a guitar teacher based in Tapping. I teach all styles and all levels. Group lessons from $25.00 each for two down to $15.00 each for 5. My one on one lessons are $35.00.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to all my Tapping Primary School students on such a great performance at the end of year assembly! You rocked the house!!

08.01.2022 Children as young as 5 can start learning guitar - but they must be taught the right way. Start them off with single finger chords on 4 strings and a quarter note strum with all downstrokes: https://youtu.be/_kchEwIIAtQ

07.01.2022 How To Play Your First Four Chords

07.01.2022 Interesting guitar came into the studio recently

07.01.2022 Remember...the best way to practice is for short periods! Grab 5 or 10 minutes to have some fun with that new song youre working on. Maybe play it for the family? Pick ONE thing to practice - maybe a chord change thats holding you up? Maybe a strum or a fingerpicking pattern youre not fluent with? Maybe playing a barre chord or a new scale? Whatever it is, play through it for NO LONGER THAN 4 MINUTES!! Then change to something else and play through that for the same amount... of time. Then go back to the first thing and play that again. The key is to GO SLOWLY and FOCUS. If you follow this routine for every practice session, you will get the maximum benefit for the minimum time! That is always the goal of your practice sessions. If you do this 5 or 10 minute practice session every day, you will get really great results! Just practice a FEW things for a SHORT time OFTEN! Its the best way to practice. Enjoy!!! See more

06.01.2022 This is slightly faster than the first video. I am still using partial G and C chords in this video. Use this to gradually increase your speed. When you can play this without mistakes, try playing along to the Last Kiss 3 video. This last version is at full tempo and has no chord calling.

05.01.2022 When your fingers are transitioning from one chord to another, your fingers should always be taking the path of least movement! Meaning, you dont want to move any fingers unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Leave fingers where they are if you can! What you want are small, smooth, economical movements of your fingers with the LEAST possible amount of finger movement. The minimum needed. And nothing wasted.... Happy New Year and keep up your practice for at least 10 minutes each day over the holidays. See more

04.01.2022 Here’s Taliah playing ‘Broken’ by Seether. Nice picking Taliah! Keep up the good work! https://youtu.be/vEKIUCqkpmE

02.01.2022 Take a good look in the musical mirror. Is your guitar practice matching your goals? If so, then you have nothing to feel bad about. No apologies necessary! If your practice habits do not match your goals, then you’ll have to ask yourself why. Be honest; maybe your goals are not truly what you thought they were.... Some people don’t realise how difficult it is and what level of dedication it takes to play at a high musical level. When they do, they sometimes adjust their goals downward, since they know in their hearts that they will likely NOT put forth that type of effort. And that’s okay. My goals do not have to be your goals. It’s all good in the musical neighbourhood. Maybe you just need a re-focus and a better plan for scheduling your guitar practice. Look for a time of day that seems to consistently be down time and play guitar then. (My first instinct is to look at TV time, video game time, Facebook time, or YouTube/Netflix time. Some of this can surely be sacrificed to become a better guitarist, no?) No matter your personal situation, guitar practice should be fun, not drudgery. Keep it fun by matching it to your goals. Start and finish with something you can do and work on something you can’t do, in between. And enjoy what you can do!
