25.01.2022 A win for exercise as medicine

25.01.2022 Has your doctor referred you to an Exercise Physiologist? If not, why not?

25.01.2022 It is show day public holiday this Thursday, but never fear... I will still be here. I dont have a life, so dont really need a day off. If you have an appointment on Thursday, come in as scheduled, or let me know if you cant make it - Jenna

24.01.2022 Being active, in any way, shape or form, helps to boost your mood and reduces your risk of developing depression. It can also help those living with mental illness to manage their conditions. What are you doing to move your mood today? #ExerciseRight

22.01.2022 Exercise for mental health... It works! If you know anyone who is struggling please talk to them about the options available to them, especially exercise physiology - Jenna

21.01.2022 Well I would be keen for the ultimate Scottish workout. Minus the cold Anyone with me? - Jenna

20.01.2022 Have you had a health professional tell you your pain is all in your head? This statement is completely demoralising, and not exactly correct. Yet it is not completely wrong either. Have a read to find out why

20.01.2022 We are outside, keeping our distance and scrubbing equipment between each client. A strong body leads to a strong immune system. The fresh air helps too. And really, who wouldnt want to train with a view like this?

20.01.2022 Exercise and pain. A complicated but beneficial relationship.

19.01.2022 They say change is as good as a holiday, since no one is going on holiday a change will have to do. As most of you now know, The Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre has officially been closed for 2 weeks. Following this they will review and the closure may be extended. As such, no Exercise Physiology sessions will be running there. But never fear, I have a plan of action. The Basin at the Cataract Gorge has some lovely grassed areas and a big undercover BBQ area. I was tryi...ng to keep the sessions close to the aquatic centre but the nearby parks do not have appropriate undercover spaces. Given we will be working in the weather, this is needed. I have plenty of equipment and can modify programs as needed. I will be calling everyone later today to discuss scheduling. Dont panic, we have this. Remember exercise helps your immune system and being outdoors might just spice things up - Jenna See more

18.01.2022 Our lives have changed A LOT in the last two weeks, but staying physically active has never been more important. New restrictions are limiting what we can and c...ant do in terms of daily exercise, but there are still plenty of ways to stay active. Heres whats allowed: GO OUTSIDE: You can still go outside for daily exercise, as long as you are not in groups of more than two people (excluding family units). A walk, run or bike ride is a great way to get some fresh air and will do wonders for your mental health. SEE AN ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL (AHP): You are still allowed to visit an AHP, like an exercise physiologist, at their clinic as exercise services provided by these professionals are deemed to be essential. USE TELEHEALTH: Many exercise services can be delivered online, but its important to make sure youre getting the right advice. We recommend seeking out an exercise professional who is accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), as they are required to adhere to strict telehealth standards. Additionally, thanks to an announcement earlier this week from the Federal Government, services delivered by an allied health professional via telehealth are now eligible for rebates under Medicare. WORKOUT AT HOME: The gym might be off limits, but you can still do a great workout at home (with or without equipment). For a great list of exercise ideas and free workout videos, check out our website. #ExerciseRight #StayHome

17.01.2022 How Your Gut Affects Your Mood

17.01.2022 I would like to introduce you all to Lloyd Jago. Lloyd served in the Australian Air Force during World War 2. Lloyd loves a chat and good laugh. During our exercise sessions, Lloyd will occasionally discuss his time during the war. Sometimes this is a reflection on the atrocities experienced during war, or deep philosophical conversations about how post traumatic stress disorder is viewed now compared to back in his day. Lloyd says that PTSD wasnt heard of back then and vete...rans were expected to carry on with life as if nothing had happened. We know better now. We must do better to support our veterans. This is one of the many reasons why Lloyd loves his Exercise Physiology sessions. Lloyd sees the value in improving health and mobility through exercise, and it gives him the opportunity to talk and pass on stories to the next generation. He jokingly complains about every exercise (even though he knows how much good they are doing him), but he loves being able to chat with someone who has grown up differently than himself and has different experiences and a different point of view. Today Lloyd showed me pictures he took in Bofu, Japan; following the war in 1946. His stories from this time show the world through the eyes of a 21 year old soldier who witnessed more tragedy than most of us will ever know, yet all these years later, it is the kindness, mateship and sometimes funny events that are remembered. Lloyd was laughing as he was telling me about the time they burnt a hole straight through the floor of the "accommodation" with the giant steel drum they were using to keep warm. He doesnt tell me about the bitter icy cold that must have been blowing through the giant shed where they were hauled up. He has a grin from ear to ear as he tells me how the Japanese woman fertilised their rice crops (it involved a bucket and the septic tank, but the details dont need to be shared ), and he chuckled as he says it took him years before he could even look at a bowl of rice. He doesnt talk about the starving people affected by war, doing what they needed to survive. Lloyd happily tells the story of one of the boys with "a few too many under the belt" walking straight into the open septic tank and spending hours washing off in the inland River beside camp. He doesnt talk about how they used alcohol to numb themselves from the things they had seen. War is not pretty or glamorous and it is those who have served who know this better than anyone else. It is up to the rest of us to support them. There are programs available and people who can help. I love what I do because of people like Lloyd. Knowing I can make a difference in someones life, someone who has given so much to our country, is an amazing feeling. And being privileged enough to learn about other peoples experiences, is just the cherry on top. Lloyd was happy for me to share his stories and photos. Feel free to share.

16.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them. Lest we forget. Thank you for your service.

15.01.2022 Older Australians are currently being warned to stay home as much as possible to protect them from COVID-19. Its SO important for these individuals to stay act...ive during isolation... Being active might actually slow down ageing... Well, for your brain at least! Research has shown that higher levels of physical activity are associated with larger brain volumes in the elderly. A study comparing age-related brain shrinking of active and inactive older adults has found that the most active individuals had bigger brains. The effect of exercise was equal to four fewer years of brain ageing. Just one reason to stay active during self-isolation! For some great home exercises that are suitable for older Australians, head to our website and check out Exercise Right at Home. #ExerciseRight #StayHome

15.01.2022 This is why we do what we do... For you guys.

15.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came to our annual NJF Christmas BBQ. And a big thank you to everyone who supported us this year. Here is hoping for a bigger, even better year in 2020. Hope you all have a safe and wonderful Christmas - Jenna

15.01.2022 Dogs are amazing

13.01.2022 You wont see me dancing around the gym (only because I have 2 left feet). But I love this. Never to old to move

12.01.2022 Hello my Lovelies, it is the time of year when I can flaunt my chocolate addiction without shame. Which also means there is some public holidays thrown in for fun. As such the centre will be closed on the following days. I will be seeing clients in the gym (and pool) on Tuesday and Wednesday, but sadly, no home visits on those days. Wishing everyone a happy and safe Easter

12.01.2022 Never too old to train

09.01.2022 We all know that smoking is bad for your health and quitting isnt easy, but do you know what happens to your body when you do quit? If you have tried quitting and failed, come have a chat to me or talk to your GP about strategies and resources available to help. Its never too late to improve your health - Jenna

09.01.2022 There is no denying that Coronavirus (COVID-19) is here, and it has lots of us worried. There is a wealth of information out there... some accurate, some not. One of the best things we can do to fight the possibily of oncoming disease is ensure our immune system is as strong as possible. The best way to do this is eat well, sleep well, and move well. For the most part, our bodies are good at fighting disease. We can help it by providing the fuel it needs and keeping it strong

09.01.2022 All of us at NJF Wellness want to thank all our amazing clients who have stuck with us during the nightmare that was 2020. Today we celebrated with clay target shooting and a BBQ. Airforce won the day with an average of 19 out of 20 (We can thank the Northern Midlands Sporting Clays President for being the only RAAF representative). Surprisingly, the Exercise Physiologists took 2nd place with an average of 13/20 (with no thanks to yours truly bringing the average down). Army ...came in 3rd with 11/20 (also the highest number of representatives). Navy was beaten to 4th spot by the Girl Guides (aka one of the army representatives who was allocated to girl guides against his will) with the Navy averaging 8/20 and girl guides 9/20. It was a brilliant day with some great shooting and even better sledging. Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas and a safe New Year. Cheers, Jenna See more

09.01.2022 Reminder that it is a public holiday today. I am still running sessions, but Sam is not. If you have made arrangements to see me, I will see you in the gym. If not, have a good day off - Jenna

08.01.2022 Hi All, I have some exciting news! The Launceston Aquatic Centre has agreed to allow NJF members access to a full gym & pool membership. Currently NJF pays for your access to the centre during off peak hours (8am to 3pm). This is not changing. Your gym access for your sessions is still covered by us; only now you have the option to become a full member at a heavily subsidised rate. NJF members who WANT to access the centre on their own (gym and pool) at any time of the day a...nd/or participate in the gyms group exercise classes, can sign up and pay for a full membership, at a subsidised rate. This is a saving of over 60% on membership fees. NJF will still be covering the cost of the membership required to access Exercise Physiology sessions, meaning part of the membership cost is actually paid for by us, and you can come and do your own workout or group class at any time providing you are still regularly attending your scheduled sessions. You do not have to pay for a membership if you are only attending your Exercise Physiology sessions, this option is for those who would like to come in and do their own workout outside of the off peak hours, and/or participate in the gyms group fitness classes. If you think you might be interested in this, come have a chat to me - Jenna See more

08.01.2022 Good quality information

06.01.2022 Well that doesnt look like my usual work stuff. Has a little more bite than my regular equipment. Probably not a great idea to bring it to the gym #Surprise #Stowaway #NJFWellness #ExercisePhysiology

06.01.2022 The flu shot is important! This season is looking like a bad one for the flu, so its important to be vaccinated. Most people refer to a cold as "the flu". But they are very different. The flu can kill you. A cold can not. I have had my shot. Have you had yours?

05.01.2022 So I have been hit with the flu pretty bad. Im hoping to be back too full strength in the next few days. But Im still unable to walk to the kitchen without needing a break to breathe. I am messaging everyone whose appointments are affected, but it doesnt look like I will be up and running until at least Wednesday. I dont want to contaminate anyone. Really sorry guys - Jenna

04.01.2022 My early morning clients know this is a rare occurrence by me. But fear not, our new Exercise Physiologist, Danielle, is starting next week and I hear she doesnt hate mornings as much as me. Check with me if you need check your appointment days and times- Jenna

Which is enough of a reason to come Day: Saturday 31st August 2019 Time: 10.30am Where: Charles Street Pantry (64 Charles St, Launceston) Let me know if you want to come, or have any questions - Jenna

04.01.2022 With kids back to school, many parents around the country are breathing a sigh of relief. But did you know that your activity levels can have an impact on your ...children year round? Data from Sports Australia shows that children whose parents participate in physical activity are more than 200% more likely to be active themselves! Our tips? Lead by example! Being active is not only good for your body and mind, but helps demonstrate healthy habits to your children. Secondly, try to make moving fun! Get the family together and take a hike, play Frisbee at your local park or head to the beach for a swim. Being active shouldnt a chore for you or your kids! #ExerciseRight
