25.01.2022 Simple nature play ideas while on a nature walk with young children... Play hide and seek with an animal toy or two...and/or try and find the best places to camouflage your toy friends. Create a den the perfect size for the toy friend using natural materials found on site and/or make up a story about their adventures (and yours) as you go along...
24.01.2022 Camping holiday anyone? While we are fortunate to have many beautiful camping spots pretty much on our doorstep here in our Margaret River region...if you feel like a bit of a change of scene, there are some great camping destinations only a slightly longer drive away...and with regional restrictions starting to lift, this list put our by Nature Play WA might be of interest.
19.01.2022 It's a great season to plant seeds with the wonderful mix of sunshine and rain. Perhaps try creating a warm 'house' for your seedlings (to protect them during the cooler nights) by reusing a plastic bottle or glass jar turned into a DIY cloche. ...And it's always the perfect time of year for forest explorations with a special friend!
18.01.2022 Djeran - a magical mix of sunshine and rain NLC Rewind and Reflect Series Enjoy looking at visuals from Djeran 2019...and perhaps find some inspiration for activities to try with your own children and learn more about the current Djeran season by visiting -https://www.nlcmargaretriver.com.au/news/2019/5/9/djeran

11.01.2022 "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes"... Whatever the weather fun and learning can be had outdoors.just dress appropriately, risk manage as necessaryand enjoy! Part of our Rewind & Reflect Series...the visuals and information found at the attached link are a celebration of Makuru...... While we currently have clear skies... it's a good time to think about being wet weather ready (if you are not already)...and you will find some good information courtesy of Undalup Association and some visual inspiration courtesy of NLC for activities to try with your family in the weeks ahead... https://www.nlcmargaretriver.com.au///embracing-the-season
10.01.2022 Simple, relaxing (anxiety reducing) activities to do with and for children... 1. Go on a nature walk treasure/scavenger hunt. 2. Play a board game (set up outside for a change...in a DIY cubby perhaps). 3. Interact with water. Use warm water for extra soothing qualities. 4. Spend time with animals and/or colour in (perhaps even together!)... 5. Spend time meditating/quietly contemplating in/near wild spaces. 6. Read a book and/or set up an outdoor mini library for the day...a basket of books set up on a picnic blanket with some comfy cushions will do the trick! 7. Create mandalas using natural elements...collecting the elements is likely to be just as therapeutic as collaboratively creating your mandala. Photos courtesy Fishica Days
10.01.2022 REMEMBERING THE MILES FAMILY We are thinking about our treasured friends today (as we so often do)...and reflecting on just how grateful we are to have known and spent time with them...of how they continue to inspire us in so many ways... Over the past couple of years, NLC families have gathered together to remember the Miles family - through play...outdoors, in nature...and with a cup of tea, warm hugs and a smile (and tears).... While we can't all get together in the same way this year, if you have an opportunity...perhaps consider creating a fresh brew to sit and enjoy with your family and/or friends... and/or take a ramble through your favourite forest or along a stretch of beach - taking the time to seek out and celebrate the infinite beauty found in nature. Simply take a little time out...in memory of a special family that mean so much to so many... You can find a written dedication to the Miles Family and some of our memories here. https://www.nlcmargaretriver.com.au/memories
09.01.2022 As we continue to navigate changes brought about by Covid-19, please note that NLC is not currently running any regular weekly nature play groups for the short/medium term. We continue to work on other natural/sustainable play and learning community focused projects and very much look forward to sharing details in the weeks and months ahead... Ongoing ideas relating to nature, wild spaces and creative, open ended, imaginative play will still be posted right here...on our FB page : )
09.01.2022 Let Nature be your teacher. William Wordsworth NLC Rewind and Reflect Series...https://www.nlcmargaretriver.com.au//environment-specific- NLC is still as passionate as ever about promoting and facilitating natural, sustainable learning through play for children (and the wider community!) If you believe in the importance of nature play and natural learning too, perhaps you might consider getting involved with NLC's future direction? And/or be willing to share ideas and help with fundraising? Please get in touch if this is something of interest - we'd love to hear from you.

01.01.2022 Wishing all mother's a wonderful day! To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colours of a rainbow. Maya Angelou
