25.01.2022 2016, A YEAR AGOG: Going through things I've written this year and reckon that's the simplest way to describe 2016: ALL AGOG, ALL THE TIME. First thing I had published back in January was an opinion piece expressing disbelief that a known racist, sexist, vulgar pig of a man could be so blithely publicly embraced and his many sins ignored. Turns out Mel Gibson was just the warm-up act on that score. More agoggery as it comes to hand.

21.01.2022 There are tougher gigs than escaping a rainy September day in Melbourne to sit in front of a fire and talk about life with Olivia Newton-John. Covered: love, life, loss, grief, growing up, growing old, singing songs, writing songs, old songs, new songs. And, by the by, the night she was summoned for an audience with the King in Vegas. As a rule of thumb, it's a good conversation when ELVIS PRESLEY pops up out of nowhere. This is from me in Sunday's The Age - theage.com.au Michael Caprio Jonathan Cebon

15.01.2022 Happy 101st birthday, Frank Sinatra. When I did my Good Weekend story to mark the Sinatra centenary last year, I half-finished some videos to accompany the piece that I only got round to finishing months later. Efficiency! So here they are. This one is the first interview Sinatra gave on Australian soil - at Melbourne airport, in January 1955. (Thank you to Bob Horsfall for the treasured audio.)

09.01.2022 And also on #HowardonMenzies, I had an interesting conversation with John Howard on the making of the series and other matters. I asked him about the notion that Labor has historically been far better at tending its history - that it "anoints the nation's heroes", as Paul Keating once put it. Howard: "I think they have worked much harder at that and to the extent that they've been successful, well, our side has got no right to complain." This ABC series on Menzies can be seen as Howard's shot at competing on the turf of political myths and heroes.

08.01.2022 The strike over, I'm free to plug the hell out of this story from Good Weekend. Loved doing this piece, retracing the history of Princess Diana in Australia through the eyes of those who were there - from the private thoughts of the politicians to the people she met on roadside walkabouts - from a secret visit in 1981 when she hid out in Mollymook, through official visits in 1983, 1985 and 1988, to her final visiti ten months before she died. #princessdiana

06.01.2022 Ahead of #HowardonMenzies, part 1 on ABC tonight... my review. (Love him or hate him - Howard that is - you'd be a fool to miss it if you love history and politics. And Clive James. And Barry Humphries. And old home movies.)

03.01.2022 New from me: Q&A grows another head.... Q&A Extra, debuting post-show tonight on ABC News Radio.
