19.01.2022 Look what's happening in Kinder! Last week Kinder students revised the different Zones of Regulation. Kinders have learnt that there are 4 different colours and they represent different feelings and emotions. We have shared different ways we can help ourselves calm down. While this experiment was exciting and delivered lots of squeals of excitement, it also showed the students that sometimes our feelings can bubble over if we don’t use our calming strategies.

12.01.2022 Last Friday morning our LiL group ventured to the Molesworth Environmental Centre where we were warmly greeted by Peter and Trish. They guided us on a big bush walk; jumping creeks, dancing over bridges and ducking fallen trees. Everyone did such a great job walking and when we arrived the fire was already lit and ready to toast our damper. It was delicious and many of us went back for seconds and thirds! Then we had time to wander, play and explore in the bush. We found insects, climbed into caves and practised jumping off logs. It was wonderful to observe the group happily exploring their surroundings. The walk back was a little bit harder and we even spotted a snake (!) but we all made it back safely. It was a great morning exploring our local area. How lucky we are to have the outdoors on our doorstep at New Norfolk Primary.

07.01.2022 Look what's happening in 4/5C! Term 2 has seen 4/5 Chaplin start their Economics Unit. This unit involves students applying for jobs, paying rent for their desk, and receiving their wage each week. Our Economics Unit is teaching the 4/5 students a lifelong lesson about how to budget and plan, while meeting many Australian Curriculum links including showing students the difference between needs and wants and why choices need to be made about how limited resources are used (ACH...ASSK119) and to solve problems involving purchases and the calculation of change to the nearest five cents with and without digital technologies (ACMNA080). If students are running low on funds they are encouraged to make things at school and sell them in our class market, to raise some much needed funds for their budget. The 4/5 students are to be congratulated on the resilience they have shown. See more

02.01.2022 Staff vs Students Basketball Term 3 For the first time all year, NNPS held the Staff vs Students All Star Basketball Game. It was the biggest one ever held at the Primary School, with 10 students and 8 staff competing. In front of a capacity crowd, the staff treated everyone to some epic dunks and incredible teamwork while the students shot some massive three pointers and showed plenty of persistence. For the staff, Ms Clark scored 12 points and played some ferocious defence..., Mr Beattie wowed the audience with a tremendous backwards dunk and Walshy hit a half court 3 pointer that got the crowd (and himself in all honesty) pumped up. For the students, Ruben top scored with 10 points and showcased his awesome skills, Rorey hit a couple of massive three pointers and one awesome steal that resulted in the play of the game and Axel took some nice shots and played some very solid defence. In the end, the staff won 40 to 33, adding another win to their total. During the third term holidays, I’m sure the staff and students will be practicing their basketball skills in anticipation for next terms event. Thanks to everyone for participating and supporting and thanks to Lil and Bree for scoring. See more

02.01.2022 Look what's happening in 3/4 Nute! This term, 3/4 Nute have been learning a lot about how our brains work. We have learnt about self-regulation strategies, such as how slow breathing can calm our minds and bodies (the part of our functioning called the ‘parasympathetic nervous system’), and how we can help ourselves when we are dealing with a tough thought or situation. We have also been learning about how to develop a Growth Mindset, and the benefits of being about to learn from challenges. We have worked very hard to identify the conflicts we face each day and the ways that we can learn, grow and improve from these.
