23.01.2022 Dear friends, I’m finding it hard to believe we’re just one sleep away from the election. When we ran our ‘CSG roadshow’ with Drew Hutton through western VIC in 2011, the election seemed light years away. Since then its incredible to think of what you have all achieved:... 70 active communities organising against coal and gas 44 coal/ gasfield free declarations (and at least 8 in planned for early 2015) with an average of 95% support More than 5,000 houses door knocked And we have forced the government to act. Its good to remember that the Coalition have been one of the most anti-environmental governments this state has ever had. Yet we managed to get: The moratorium on fracking The extension of the moratorium The moratorium on drilling approvals. Sustained community organising and the threat of direct action got the government’s attention. As someone mentioned at the last Protect the West meeting, 2015 will be the year the issue of unconventional gas will be resolved. It will either get the go ahead or be stopped by our campaigning.
