19.01.2022 We are building momentum in our fight against the latest stage of the Pagewood Green development. There will be a Mayoral Minute and a separate motion run by Councillor Matson at Randwick City Council Meeting this Tuesday about the Pagewood Meriton monstrosity, calling for a halt to this development until infrastructure and capacity issues are addressed. What can you do? Write to both Randwick and Bayside Council Mayors and Councillors expressing your disgust with the over...Continue reading
18.01.2022 We will be seeking the advice of the Environmental Defenders Office and another planning lawyer. One thing that concerns us is that residents on the Maroubra side of Bunnerong Road have not been notified at any stage of this process. The suburb of Maroubra is directly impacted by this development but we have not had a chance to follow this closely and make representations about traffic and other impacts. There has not been adequate transport planning across both Council are...as. It will have a huge impact on surrounding commercial districts - they have not been consulted. We do not think this proposal is consistent with the objectives and detailed requirements of Section 9.1 Directions of the EPAA - in particular: 1.1 Business and Industrial Zones; 3.4 Integrating Land Use and Transport (subject to consultation with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) regarding the current and future capacity of public transport) See more
16.01.2022 COUNCIL DECISION Council’s assessment has identified that the draft Planning Proposal establishes strategic and site specific merit to amend the current planning controls for the following reasons: The proposed intensification of employment uses is consistent with the Greater Sydney Region Plan and Eastern City District Plan, in particular Objective 22 ‘Investment and business activity in centres’ (Region Plan) and Planning Priority E11 ‘Growing investment, business o...pportunities and jobs in strategic centres (District Plan)’; The proposal is consistent with the objectives and detailed requirements of Section 9.1 Directions of the EPAA - in particular: 1.1 Business and Industrial Zones; 3.4 Integrating Land Use and Transport (subject to consultation with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) regarding the current and future capacity of public transport) and 7.1 Implementation of A Plan for Growing Sydney; and The proposal is consistent with the B3 Commercial Core zone objectives of the Botany Bay LEP 2013. However, the proposed building envelope needs to be further refined to ensure reasonable solar access is provided to the properties located on the southern side of Wentworth Avenue. Additional details and controls are also required in the site-specific Draft Development Control Plan in relation to matters including landscaping, active street frontages, pedestrian connections, building separation, setbacks, building height strategy, visual screening, and public domain interfaces. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) The proponent has not made an offer to enter into a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA), however the proponent has indicated that they are agreeable to entering into a VPA with Council, subject to a Gateway determination being issued by Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE). The proponent has outlined that the planning proposal will facilitate the following benefits: Improved lifestyle amenities and supporting the creation of new jobs. { RUBBISH) Upgrade of the bus interchange through expansion and improved amenity as detailed in the proposal. (RUBBISH) New publicly accessible plaza above the bus interchange, with landscaping, seating and activated by externalised retail. (RUBBISH) Improvements to the public domain along Bunnerong Road and Westfield Drive. Upgrade of adjacent road intersections as informed by traffic modelling included in the proposal.{NO CONSULTATION WITH TRANSPORT FOR NSW - AGAIN RUBBISH New employment opportunities for the community via provision of new format office space and additional retail, leisure and entertainment jobs ([WE DON'T WANT MORE ENTERTAINMENT - WE WANT TO SAVE EXISTING BUSINESSES IN THE AREA).
15.01.2022 Meriton has already ruined the area with its "Pagewood green" development.. Now Scentre Group want to continue the overdevelopment with towers on top of Eastgardens for commercial space, hotel and student accommodation. Here is a little bit of history about the Meriton development.
11.01.2022 This is happening in Kingsford. They plan student accommodation on top of Eastgardens as well. You get the picture: the whole stretch between Kingsford and Maroubra/Eastgardnes is going to be turned into student units changingthe suburbs on this corridor forever. We will fight all these developments. It is time that NSW Inc - developers, NSW Government and the corporatised universities understand that this area is not for sale! We say NOPE.
11.01.2022 Bus services being cut, Bunnerong Rd at a standstill, thousands more to use Heffron Park, residential parking, beaches and Des Renford leisure centre, all at the expense of Randwick City Council Ratepayers!!! https://www.smh.com.au//no-way-calls-for-shut-down-over-me
11.01.2022 I know a lot of people in this group are interested in reforming the NSW planning system more broadly, in particular, how it deals with mega-developments such a...s the so-called 'Little Bay Cove' and Pagewood/Eastgardens. Tune in live to the NSW Parliament debate next Thursday 11 Feb at 4PM via the link: https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/Pages/webcasts.aspx
11.01.2022 Fantastic outcome at Randwick Council meeting last night. Our wonderful Councillors have resolved to : a) commission a study on the infrastructure, traffic and service impacts of this development for the Randwick City Council area; b) write to Bayside Council and the Planning Minister outlining our concerns about the impact of this development; c) urge a halt to this development until infrastructure concerns are assessed and then addressed; and... d) seek a cooperative working partnership with Bayside Council on this mutually concerning issue. e) make a submission to the Eastern Sydney Planning Panel when it considers the development. One thing is for sure - it is Randwick Council more than Bayside that is going to be put under unprecedented pressure as the growth of our community outpaces the roll out of infrastructure and services.
10.01.2022 Look at the traffic that is coming our way with all the new developments in the area. Three new towers over Eastgardens is not appropriate. We will shortly be developing some talking points, a petition and leaflets for residents of the area to use about the new Eastgardens development. We are collecting information. Let us all keep alerting people in the area about what is coming and start mobilising people for a fight!
04.01.2022 https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au//f3b1f922764dd7f6a1f2114 Scentre Group, co-owners and managers of the Westfield Eastgardens Shopping Centre, joined by Terrace Tower Group, are calling on the NSW Government to intervene fast track its plans for a three multistorey commercial towers over an expanded Westfield Eastgardens, including further student accommodation and a hotel. ... It is time for Westfield (and Scentre Group), Meriton, Crown Group and other developers to stop ruining our great city for the sake of profits. This monstrous development will lead to traffic congestion and put a strain on transport and other infrastructure in the South-Eastern suburbs. It will also suck the life out of existing commercial centres and small businesses in the area, including in Maroubra Junction, Matraville, Kingsford and Botany. Shopping towns destroy suburbs.
01.01.2022 Have a look at what is already happening in Pagewood. NOW THEY WANT TO BUILD MORE! ENOUGH. Just say NOPE!
