25.01.2022 From our allies at Settle Woodend: what is John Letchford up to, and why? Is Joan Gladman (and hence Villawood CEO Rory Costello) in his ear, whispering sweet somethings? "Call to action and the community needs you on the evening of June 18th to attend Gisborne Council Chambers to hear what your Councillors do on the night to protect the Woodend Structure Plan that Mr Letchford has again placed at risk. This week we have witnessed again Mr. Letchford’s single intent to pursue... a development agenda outside of the process which has the support of the majority. The WSP was approved last week demonstrating the proper discharge of duty by elected Councillors. A Councillor has every right to vote for or against a motion but here the action should have ended. You have every right to ask: Why is John Letchford so intent to have his way with Woodend, our plan and put at risk a united vision for Woodend when he does not represent Woodend on Council? Why does he lodge a revision motion and go to the press and argue for Greenfield development or moving the town boundary? {See Guardian Express page 1 and our response page 3] when all independent advice has said NO to both. Write now to the editors of the Guardian Express [[email protected]] Macedon Free Press [[email protected] Macedon Weekly [[email protected]} and express your reaction to this betrayal. Write to those Council members who supported our Woodend Structure Plan and thank them for supporting the carriage of the WSP and to stay firm in their resolve to respect the recommendation of their own planning department and their independent advice. Ring them and ask them to remain firm in their resolve. Thank the Major Mr. Jukes for leading the way and supporting the WSP. The Major Rodger Jukes: 0400 647 445 [email protected] Jennifer Anderson: 0408 273 670 [email protected] Sally Piper: 0400 865 543 [email protected] John O’Connor: 0412 870 500 [email protected] Russel Mowatt: 0418 531 281 [email protected] Call or email Henry McLaughlin and ask him to support the WSP without changes: 0400 028 507 [email protected] Do not bother with Mr. Letchford as he is a waste of your time. Write or call the Minister of Planning Mr. Mathew Guy: 03 8392 6075 [email protected] and ask him how one man can act in this manner, place our WSP at risk and if the WSP is changed which wastes years of work and our funds, what can be done. Thank you Settle Woodend"

23.01.2022 Nearly 600 people have signed. It's been going for 1 day. Spread it around.

21.01.2022 Don't forget to comment on the Loddon Mallee South Regional Growth Plan by the end of this month - it seems to recommend some nasty and insensitive things for Macedon Ranges, such as intensive piggeries and poultry farms, as well as endorsing Riddell's Creek as the latest sacrificial lamb in the DPCD and Committee for Melbourne's Mammonic rites of suburbanising everything in a 100km radius of the GPO. Oh, that's right, we don't have a GPO any more. Thanks, Jeff. http://www.dpcd.vic.gov.au//regionalgr/loddon-mallee-south

13.01.2022 The mass turnout of people wanting to 'Make friends in a VillaWood(End) community and be proud to call it home', during the 30 mins of sunshine we had yesterday. The tour was curtailed due to the boggy nature of 90% of the route.

11.01.2022 Monetization, homogenisation, suburbanisation. MRSC takes its cues from state and federal governments. Tell them its not on.

10.01.2022 Watch ABC 7.30 Victoria tonight for a report on Council's stupid and shortsighted money-making venture at Hanging Rock Twitter: #HangingRock @GuyStayner 7.30

08.01.2022 Might be worth a read, preparatory to reading all about John Letchford's change of heart http://www.mrra.asn.au/red-alerts1/RED%20ALERTS.htm

05.01.2022 We reckon, unless Rory has got something tucked up his sleeve, that it might be time to take the "Villawood is staying" sign down from the window in High St., and maybe reconsider options for what they're going to do with the farm. WTSP says no greenfield rezoning outside town boundaries (which stop at the golf course, BTW) necessary for at least, oh, a generation. John Letchford's withdrawn his rescission motion. Looks like it's going to pass. Can you hang on that long? Or is that too long a timeframe for your "smash and grab" approach? We ain't going to be smashed, and you're not going to grab it.

03.01.2022 The little bird is cute. Emblematic of the destroyed nesting sites they're regrettably marking down as collateral damage, maybe?

02.01.2022 How do you get in on these "community consultations" for "Davies Hill"? (they still haven't made it clear how their name for the land north of the golf course relates to the real world. It seems like a little organisational tic, a bit of 'fake authenticity' : á là "Reidwell's Field" give a geographical feature the name of the last person to own it before they did? We'll all have forgotten in 5 years anyway. Won't we?). You turn up to one of their "site walk-arounds." There's ...three dates that Mr Bonnington is advertising for a walking tour of "the Davies Hill site" (it's not a building 'site', Stuart, not yet, nor will be): 10th, 17th and 24th of August. Just past the golf course on the left. Go along. Ask whether they've considered the option that most people in town want that bit of land to stay as it is. It'll be a hoot. Or an embarrassment. Or both! See more

01.01.2022 Villawood have been getting in people's faces of late. First it was their rather controversial 'sponsorship' (buying off? Carpetbagging?) of the Woodend football club. It's actually part of their official corporate "community engagement policy" - find a community group that people respect and offer "sponsorship" - no strings attached, of course: just make sure that you mention what good blokes they are at the pub after the game. (The US tried something similar in South Vietnam in the 1960s - they called it "Hearts and Minds". It worked really well). Several members left as a result. The recent issue of "The Woodend Star" carries an 'advertorial' advising of "community consultation workshops", where the outlandish claim of listening to community wishes about how the 'development' will be designed is made.

01.01.2022 I went for a ride through Hesket today. Nailed to the trunk of a very old tree, on the corner of Straws Lane and Romsey Rd., was an application notice to cut it down. It's mates, equally old, on three other corners of the crossroads, had these notices nailed to them as well. The reason council wants to do this, is to put a roundabout in to "facilitate" movement in and out of their shiny new CONference centre on the corner of Colwells Rd. and Straws lane. Local character? Bio...diversity? Nah. Just bucks in the bank. Good enuf, eh? No. Here's what I wrote. I think you should write something as well. Here's what I wrote: [email protected], [email protected] Ms Leggo, Ms. Grigg, I wish to object to Planning application PLN/2013/197 LG, the removal of some identified, and other unspecified trees from the intersection of Romsey Rd and Straws Lane, Hesket. I believe that the purposes that the removal of the stated vegetation are aimed at are illegitimate and preemptive i.e presumeably to facilitate the remodelling of the intersection to cope with an unspecified and unknown as to why planned for, increase in traffic volume. There is no such traffic volume increase observable in the recent past, from casual observation during my regular and frequent journeys along this road. I believe that such purposes, and any others advocated, cannot be balanced against the natural heritage value of trees of such an advanced age (the presumed lack of any assessment of their health or age, although casual observation would put their germination as predating European settlement, maybe 200+ years old, being an added factor), their contribution to the character and ecology of this area, and their role in the propagation of their species within the local ecosystem. Please make this known as an objection to the relevant decision-making forum. Your sincerely, Mark Horner, Woodend
