25.01.2022 Since posting my school holiday program Ive had many people ask about scraperboard, or scratchboard as it is also known. Ive made this very short ( I promise !) video to introduce scraperboard and demonstrate how to transfer an original drawing and scratch the scraperboard surface to make the artwork. This is a very satisfying medium and not as difficult as you may think....

25.01.2022 Ever tried drawing something upside down? ( your paper that is ...not you!) When working from a photographic reference, turning your paper and the reference upside down is a way of looking at the shapes ( both positive and negative ) that help form the subject. By drawing upside down we dont think of the subject as what it is so much as the lines, angles and shapes that form it. Thurdays kids class drew these impressive line drawings upside down.

20.01.2022 Wishing you all a very safe and happy holiday season. Huge thanks to all the students, caregivers and parents for their support this year. The new term will begin on the 3rd of February for the kids classes. For any enquiries regarding Term 1 2020 please email me at [email protected] See you next year! Artwork by Eli

17.01.2022 Thursday kids class exploring the wonderful tonal qualities of charcoal...this is a very satisfying medium if you dont mind getting dirty!....

17.01.2022 This is the best way to sharpen pastel and charcoal pencils but also fantastic for graphite pencils - enabling you to have a longer length of graphite which is perfect for shading.

16.01.2022 The much awaited and award winning sequel to PERSPECTIVE - Box shapes - this is PERSPECTIVE - Ellipses - enjoy!!

16.01.2022 A selection of recent works from some of the adult students- fantastic stuff!

14.01.2022 Val from Fridays adult class recently completed this pastel piece. The inspiration was a broadly painted study in oils from the AGSA. Using this as her reference she has rediscovered the flower forms that were not completely described, painted loosely or lost to darkness in the original; and reinterpreted them into a very successful artwork.

14.01.2022 Some of the artwork from the new Tuesday 4.30 kids class. Building a tiger portrait and shading in charcoal. Well done everyone!

14.01.2022 Two of the latest finished pieces from Tuesdays adult class!

14.01.2022 Its always fantastic to see the work students are making at home. This impressive portrait of a lion in oils is by adult student Daline - love it!

10.01.2022 For your viewing pleasure...more terrific artwork from the kids classes....

10.01.2022 To students, parents and caregivers- it was my intention to keep the school running as long as government recommendations allowed all schools to stay open, and for students to attend classes. Although there are no recommendations to close schools in South Australia, I received an email from my childrens school this morning to say that a parent had been diagnosed with the virus. No more information was given and the school is staying open regardless of this. I believe that... due to the highly infectious nature of the virus and the fact that we cant know how far this may spread from one family, it would be irresponsible of me to allow my children to continue to attend school, and for me to continue classes here at Noahs Art School. It is with great sadness that I am choosing to cancel classes effective immediately. I apologise to those students who wish to continue in the face of all these changes, but would rather err on the side of caution. I hope to be able to continue classes at some point in the near future and, if this is not possible, I will be considering an online /email correspondence for classes. All students will be contacted individually with regard to these changes. Students who wish to collect their unfinished pieces from the school are encouraged to contact me via text or email and arrange a time to do so. Thankyou - Gretta See more

10.01.2022 Some recent finished artworks from the kids...

10.01.2022 More work from the kids classes.....

10.01.2022 Many of my students enjoy drawing in a particular style, and often do so with great results. I do however like to encourage students to go outside of their comfort zones and try something different to challenge themselves when they can. It might be with a different medium, style or subject. 10 year old Harriet took up that challenge one class, and moved away from her manga style furry characters ( that she does very well) to try something different - a realistic pencil drawing of a dinosaur. Strengthening your skills in realism will give you the tools to draw in any style.

09.01.2022 So good to be back in the classroom again.....some recent work from the kids classes..

08.01.2022 And now for some more impressive works from adult students..enjoy!

07.01.2022 Using drafting film as an alternative surface for coloured pencil

07.01.2022 Exploring and understanding values (light and dark areas for shading) can be a challenging task for any artist -it requires careful observation, patience and practice. 12 year old Maddy and 8 year old Sophia are certainly on the right path with their lovely graphite drawings - well done!

06.01.2022 The next monthly Saturday afternoon adult class is on the 25th July 2.10 pm-4.10pm- message me if you would like to come along!

06.01.2022 SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLASSES!! We will be running two classes during the school holidays - Pet Portraits in Charcoal, and Scraperboard Insects. These classes are ideally suited to students aged 10 and above. Numbers are limited to 7 students per class so book early to avoid disappointment! To book email us at [email protected] - full payment must be made by 6th JULY to secure your spot.

05.01.2022 It takes a brave and determined person to paint not just one portrait, but five in one piece! Ray has done just that with a group portrait of family members. This watercolour took many weeks to complete, but Rays persistence and patience has certainly paid off!

05.01.2022 Two delicate finished pieces by Yvonne from Tuesday morning class.

05.01.2022 A lovely watercolour and pen artwork by 13 year old Aneisha. Taking the time to get the drawing right can sometimes be a frustrating process for any of us, but with results like this, its time well spent!!

04.01.2022 DONT FORGET TO BOOK IN FOR OUR SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLASSES BEFORE 6TH JULY!!!. ALL THE DETAILS FOR THE CLASSES ARE ON THE NEW WEBSITE AT https://noahsartschool.com.au

04.01.2022 To all students, parents and caregivers, I know many of you are concerned about classes with regard to the Coronavirus ( COVID-19) Like many of you, I am closely following government recommendations and guidelines around containing the spread of the the virus. As there are no current recommendations to close schools, and because numbers in my classes are kept very low (never more than 10 students at a time), classes will for the moment continue until 4th April as planned. I...t goes without saying that any students returning from overseas travel should self isolate for the recommended period of 14 days, and any students that are unwell should not attend class. Students and their families will be informed of any further changes to classes should they occur. Thankyou for your continued support - Gretta

03.01.2022 Some recent charcoal /graphite work from the kids
