12.01.2022 NEAT Competition: Nobbs Radford Architects have been selected as finalists in the recent New Experimental Architectural Typologies (NEAT) national competition recently held by the ACT Chapter of the AIA. The competition is the first stage in a joint venture between the Australian Institute of Architects, Land Development Agency, Environment and Planning Directorate, and Defence Housing Australia.... Our scheme has an emphasis on small sites which are primarily or completely off grid reducing costs by greater autonomy from services and infrastructure. The typologies include 1, 2 and 3 bedroom modules that would employ a primary structural system based on a screw pile foundation supporting Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) units in combination with insulation and timber cladding, producing a Structural Insulation Panel (SIP). Nobbs Radford, along with the other three finalists will be developing the schemes with the desire from all parties to see the designs become actuality.
