25.01.2022 At our last meeting we had Marian Gandy who is the President of the not for profit organisation called Groomed to Go give a presentation on what the organisation is all about. Groomed to Go is an organisation that empowers women and men to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them to thrive in work & in life. They have been going for 12 years and have grown significantly since it’s beginning. ... Last year they assisted 522 clients who had little or no work experience, long term unemployed due to health or family issues & domestic violence. Our club made a monetary donation that will see one client get assistance to find a job. Our Community Director Elizabeth Owen will also deliver several bags of clothes that can be used by the organisation. We wish Marian and her organisation all the best.

25.01.2022 Fred Harrison CEO of Ritchies IGA was our Guest speaker and he took us through the history of Ritchies and how it grew from 3 stores in the Mornington peninsula in 1870 to 80 stores now and over 6300 employees. Ritchies IGA are this year celebrating 150 year of service. WOW what an achievement!! Fred also took us through how he started as a trolley boy with Ritchies back in 1975 and rose to become its CEO in 1994. He has seen many changes over the years but enjoys how Ritchie...s IGA is able to compete with the likes of Coles, Woolworths, Aldi etc. The highlight was the substantial donation that he gave to our Rotary Club to use for project to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia.

21.01.2022 This week we had a special guest give us a presentation on mindfulness and how to cope with the lockdown that are in place It was also appropriate given that it was RUOK day. Simone Hardham, Founder & Chairperson of Mindful Makings Inc. gave us a great presentation and passed on several great tips on how to cope with the lockdowns. One big tip was to let go of negativity where you have no control and focusing on the here and now and on the things that you can control. ... Mental health issues were also discussed and ways to pick signs/indicators that you or friends have a problem. Our members were very engaging with Simone and I think will be better prepared to coping with the current lockdown.

02.01.2022 At our last meeting we had an update on the Mordialloc Freeway which will be completed in 2021. We had Leigh Crump, Senior Project Manager & Sam Doyle, Manager Communications who presented to us the scope, issues and complexity of this significant project that will reduce travel time and reduce traffic to residential areas near the freeway It was amazing how complex this project is given that it has to work within strict environmental guidelines and ensure that native flora... and wildlife is not impacted by the works involved. The project goes through the wetlands at Waterways and abuts the significant Braeside Park a home to many flora and wildlife species that need conservation. The project is ahead of schedule and will open in late 2021

01.01.2022 To honour Rememberance Day we asked students from various schools in our District to participate in a public speaking competition. The topic was Is the Commitment to Serve as Strong today as it was in 1914? We had many entries and the winners were asked to present to the Rotary Club via Zoom Kosta Osianlis from Mentone Grammar won first prize and Lisa Chy-Long from Kilbreda College won second prize... All Rotary members were impressed with the presentations and it is a credit to both Kosta and Lisa on the hard work they put in on their speeches. Both were impressive year 12 students who will go far once they leave University studies. Our future is in good hands! A big thank you to Kevan Thomas and Sue Hilton for organising the debate.
