22.01.2022 We theatre makers have a penchant for telling stories and sharing ideas. Therefore, our offering for #NAIDOC week celebrates #60000years of the oral tradition t...hat has shaped our home. Here is a tale from The Munaintya* #Dreaming - "Tjirbruki". This history has been prepared by Karl Winda Telfer and Gavin Malone. Karl is from the Mullawirra and Mulla mai/Kudnarto tribal clans. His family, the Williams, have been senior custodians of this story and its places since the early 1980s after Kaurna people started coming home to Country from mission living. "Tjirbruki is a Bukkiana meyu [Ancestor] being of the Kaurna meyunna [people] and was from the time after the sea waters had risen and created Wongga Yerlo [Gulf St Vincent]. Kaurna Yerta Parngkarra or [Kaurna Tribal Country] extends from Cape Jervis to the south of Adelaide, to Crystal Brook to the north and west of Piko-illya in the Mount Lofty Ranges to the coast of Gulf Saint Vincent. Casey Jay Andrews and The Archive of the Educated Heart theatrical installation at Holden Street Theatres, and presented by our Artistic Director, Joanne Hartstone also took out the BankSA Best Theatre Award!! 02.01.2022 This is a good news story about some recent Arts Funding from our AD Joanne Hartstone: I was awarded a $4000 Producers Grant by the #MadeInAdelaide scheme by Arts South Australia. I dont earn enough to save the over $6500 it actually costs to go to Edinburgh as well as pay my rent, bills, food... But with the Grant it all became possible. This was to aid my participation in arts networking events though Edinburgh Festival Fringe, British Council and Edinburgh Internationa...l Festival and seeing a huge amount of shows. As a practitioner, I cant quantify the artistic growth that this experience afforded me, but I also scouted for the best tour-ready shows to bring to Adelaide Fringe and the Noel Lothian Hall in Adelaide Botanic Garden. The ultimate souvenirs! I saw over 75 shows in 3 weeks and had meetings with almost as many producers and self-producing artists. Wow! It was an enormous cross-cultural exchange. Then followed weeks of (unpaid) administration, negotiating and logistics planning with multiple time-zones to curate an exciting 2020 #adlfringe season. I confirmed a huge performance schedule. *Note to self: never underestimate the difficulty of programming whilst accounting for weather and daylight hours 6 months ahead Another Government Branch put the #SAArtsPlan into action, by giving me permission to establish a Fringe Open-Air Theatre (Just next to the Noel Lothian Hall and an extension of our outdoor bar and box office). Another performance space changes everything. We can host more shows, and our incredible facilities get to be enjoyed by even more people. Win. Win. Im now about to officially announce the biggest #AdelaideFringe season Ive ever had. Watch this space for all the details in the coming weeks! 20 shows from 7 countries across 5 performance locations: Theatre, Cabaret, Music, Comedy, Dance, Bi-Lingual, Physical Theatre, Improvised, Immersive, Gig-Theatre, Site-Specific & Travelling.
