25.01.2022 We know we've been a little silent over the last while, but we wanted to share some amazing Fallon based news: She is officially a foster fail! After her surgery, clear histopathology results and convalescent bonding, her new mum couldn't see her go... so now Fallon is an older sister to Mason and Peanut. See that little white head next to her handsome brother!... UPDATE on the below: PayPal have reinstated access! A little terse complaining and strongly worded emailing seemed to do the trick. *** On a side note, we're in the middle of "working through" some problems with PayPal, who have been kind of really unhelpful in releasing the fundraised donations to the rescue. For some reason they have limited our PayPal account, which means we've had to supply our rescue documentation to them to confirm we are who we are... but we've done it over 6 times to no avail. We'll keep you updated.

23.01.2022 Well, isn't that a surprise... a crestie that worships the sun. Our newest little foster Bowie felt great after his face trim and bath. He is staying with us for another week before heading off to his new "foster" home. Given he's such a sweet, pleasing little lad, I think he'll be calling it his permanent home inside a fortnight.

22.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS Veterinarians at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center in the USA have worked out the reason why grapes are toxic to dogs. After receiving reports of vomiting and kidney injury following exposure to cream of tartar, veterinarians put two and two together and worked out that tartaric acid and potassium bitartrate, compounds present in cream of tartar, are also present in grapes.... This finally answers the long standing question as to why dogs develop kidney injury following ingestion of grapes. It also answers the question as to why some dogs are affected and others are not. This conundrum lies in the variability in tartaric acid concentration in grapes with concentrations changing based on grape type, locality and ripeness. Whilst 20g of grapes per kg (approximately 5 grapes per kg) has been reported to cause kidney damage, there is a report of a dog eating 1/2 grape per kg developing kidney injury also. So the best advice out there is still to avoid feeding grapes and sultanas to your dog!

22.01.2022 UPDATE: After 11 days on the lam, Misty is home. *** Missing from the Kyabram area... Misty had is relatively new to Kyabram, but on the 11th of August around 10.30am she has managed to escape from a secure yard. Can any of our Victorian friends please share in the hopes of having Misty safely returned. Her location is surround by acreage, so we've assumed she has gone to ground, but might resurface for food soon. Thank you.

22.01.2022 Thank You We simply can't put to words our gratitude to everyone who donated to our recent call to arms. The original estimation was for $2,300 which has been raised in full. In the meantime we've consulted with another clinic that will do the same surgery for a fraction of the cost, around $1,400.... As a committee, we got together to discuss things and in the interest of full transparency, we wanted to check if those who donated would mind if the extra funds raised would go to assisting dogs in Victoria (namely Valley who is still with NHA and a trio of chihuahuas that all received vetwork at our cost. 2 of the 3 were sent on to Melbourne Animal Rescue Inc., so we will not receive adoption fees to absorb those costs. As we mentioned in our original post, our fundraising revenue has all but disappeared in 2020, so these funds really do help. But we want to be 100% upfront. If there are concerns with funding being used for other dogs in our care, we're more than happy to process refunds if requested. Just send us your confirmation of original donation to [email protected] and we'll take it from there. P.S. Please enjoy this photo of Fallon settling in to care with her foster brother.

21.01.2022 "What's wrong with this picture?" says Astor. Astor is a little 18mo chihuahua boy that is being fostered by the wonderful Plater family. Although he has a rough start to life, living outdoors 24/7, he's grown accustomed to becoming an inside dog and isn't sure about peeing in the SNOW!

20.01.2022 WE'RE BACK AND READY TO SHIMMY AND SHAKE FOR THE HAIRLESS!

20.01.2022 We've been keeping close to ground for the last little while, so how about we share some of our favourite drawings from our latest fundraiser? If you see yours here, let us know what you think! A huge thanks to our fantastic volunteer artists!

19.01.2022 Update regarding our end of year plans. The Dog Lovers Show 2020 has been cancelled and rescheduled for 2021. The new dates for the next Melbourne Dog Lovers Show will now be from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 October, 2021. Our Bad Bitches of Burlesque has been cancelled and we've issued refunds. ... We've decided we won't be running our annual Crestie Play Day as well. Hopefully we will be able to run both in 2021. Given we are surrounded by immunocomprimised folks, we decided it is best for us and our friends to hunker down and hibernate until COVID19 has blown over or is at least manageable. We know this is disappointing, but don't fear. We are still taking in dogs in need, and are still stocking our online store with all the goodies you might find at our stalls, with our fabulous new Belly Bands, Carry Slings, Hand Made Felt Toys and Fluffy Faux Fur Dog Beds. You can see everything we have online at www.nohairsark.com.au/shop While we've had a "Q Word" year regarding surrenders, the few dogs we have had have been complex cases. And with running a rescue, there are veterinary costs, administrative fees such as running the website, the monthly phone bills and food. Any purchases made help us continue running in these tight times.

19.01.2022 This little old lady came to our South Australian Foster Carer last week. After some thinking, it was decided she would be called Fallon (named after the late, great aged animal advocate Gina Fallon) Amidst the COVID restrictions in Victoria, meaning we couldn't really get Fallon to Head Quarters as per our usual routine, we couldn't say no to this sweet, shy senior. However, even with the most basic of senior care, we were not expecting a projected estimate of over $2,000.00... for her required vet work! That's only for a dental with radiology and a lump removal (plus sending it off for pathology) - we're not counting the months of treatment it'll take to get skin comfortable or her body condition back to acceptable. You see, Fallon came to us just shy of 11 years of age. She has come from a less than ideal home with a less than ideal life. From what we can see of her veterinary history, she has had several litters, starting at the shocking age of 9 months old. From what we can make of her records, she only presented for post whelping checks and her spey - which only occurred as there was a suspected pyometra. This kind of life has ravaged her body and Fallon is now in dire need of a dental and a nasty looking lump to be removed. In Victoria, this would cost roughly half of what it would in South Australia. We know we've been banging on about 2020 being hard for us financially having lost 90% of our fundraising avenues, but now we really need to buckle down and do something for Fallon. We really, really hate asking in the best of times, let alone during COVID grief, but if you can donate even $2 (for that tax deductible goodness) we would be incredibly appreciative! 17.01.2022 UPDATE: APPLICATIONS CLOSED *Assisted Rehome: Introducing Ophelia and Gretal, a mother daughter duo looking for a new forever home.... Both girls have grown up on land and love a good run around the garden in sunny weather but being typical cresties, they do love a snuggle and snooze. They're used to other dogs and reportedly good with kids. Being Chinese Cresteds, they will initially be wary of thier new families, but in time will warm up once they're warmed up to you. They're used to using a doggy door and will go out to the toilet, but suggest that diligence is used in thier new home. They're both true hairless cresties, but they are larger cobb type bodies. They have lovely skin, but are currently having their feet treated for yeasty itchiness. They are currently located in NSW and the owner would prefer the girls find a home within NSW. Ideally they would be rehomed together. Rehoming fee is $500 (together) or $300 (individually) The girls are desexed, flea and worm treated, but they have not had a vaccination after the age of 3 years old as per thier breeders protocol. 17.01.2022 HELLO SPIKE! Here is another rescue to keep your eyes on on Victoria, via our friends at Saffron Pug Rescue.

15.01.2022 Santa's made his list and has checked it twice... the big mans elves have even made some goodie bags for the early paws. First come, first served. Santa will have a Elf Helper keep track of things. This is for the whole family and all breeds, not just cresties!... Dogs: Friendly and well mannered, up to date with vaccinations/flea/worm treatment and on leash. Humans: Welcome as long as they are up to date with vaccinations/flea/worm treatment and don't bite. Leash optional, we don't judge.

15.01.2022 Heading into Easter, remember to REALLY hide the chocolate where dogs can't get into - don't forget about the hot crossed buns either! Happy Easter!

14.01.2022 Look at this majestic blind beast. Look at him FLOW! Mosquito has an upcoming appointment with Uncanny Annie soon for grooming. What lewk do you think his carer Eve should go for?

12.01.2022 Sweet Fallon has had a big day today! With thanks to all of you, she was able to have her surgery at Elizabeth Park Veterinary Clinic, who very kindly looked after the rescue. Once she had been safely delivered to the vet, courtesy of Julie at Adelaide Pet Sitters, Fallon had her big dental (with only one extraction) and lumpectomy, with some chest xrays to check her heart and lungs. She passed with flying colours.... We should get the results of the lumpectomy in a weeks time, but for now she is comfortable at home with her foster family, enjoying the perks of the pain relief post surgery blep.

11.01.2022 A great big happy fathers day to all the dogdads out there. This is an 8 year old photo of Steve holding our beloved Pew - we had a photoshoot with Swattshots photography a week before our wedding so we could still involve our dogs on our special day.

10.01.2022 We have some exciting Valley news! Given spring has sprung for us here in the Hills, our little girl has spread her fluffy wings and fledged from the NHA nest to a local Permanent Foster. Valley has gone from "deaths door" to "fluffy fairy" in the 5 months at HQ and we grew terribly attached. But as is the way with rescue, the more you keep the less you can help. As much as we love Valley, she was no exception to the rule.... As she has her thyroid medication twice a day, her heart murmur to watch for as well as her skin and ears... we didn't want to make our goodbyes permanent. So we did a sneaky call out on our local pages and a lovely lady contacted us. She had been looking for a dog for her older neighbour for some time and Valley's story popped up in her feed. We took Valley for a meet and greet, which went beautifully. Then we went home and over a few days collected some belongings, before heading back to Emerald (only a stones throw away) and Valley settled in on a Permanent Foster trial. She's making herself comfortable and we've visited a few times to do her allergy injection, parasite prevention and clean her ears. We've gone through and done a very detailed behaviour assessment to ensure she is on the right track with housetraining and walking nicely on a lead. Valley has a lot of things to learn, going back to being a single dog in a carpeted house, but we feel she is going to bring a lot of light and joy to an older persons life. And best of all? When Valley is sunning herself in her favourite spot, she's got a sprawling view of the most amazing lush green valley in front of her. Photo by NHA and edited by Five Castles Portraits.

09.01.2022 It’s time to put the fun back in fundraising if you donate $20 to No Hairs Ark Chinese Crested Rescue, we’ll draw your pet. The catch? Well, most of us are a lot better at caring for Cresties than we are at drawing them. We have a recruited a pool of volunteers and each are eager to turn your animal into a timeless work of art (or at least make you laugh). You *might* get one of our extremely talented artists, but honestly, you’ll probably get someone who barely got thier... pen license in Primary School. Did you know No Hairs Ark rely on donations to make our work possible? But it doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun while we raise those funds! TO SUBMIT YOUR PHOTOS: Simply do a bank transfer to: No Hairs Ark Bendigo Bank BSB: 633 000 Account: 158 603 688 Reference: Your Last Name Art And submit $20 per photo (maximum of two pets per photo). Once you’ve paid, comment below with the photo of your pet. Our team will then work their magic and reply with a picture of your homemade masterpiece as soon as we can. If you message the page with your photo and address, we can even send your work of art to you in time (hopefully)for Christmas. There’s no limit to how many drawings you can purchase; the more donations we receive, the more we can support animals in our care and work on improving our facilities! Having said that, if it blows up, we may have to cap things if we can't keep up. Of course, if you feel compelled to give more than asked, we’d be so grateful for your generosity. Our supporters are truly the best! Check out some of the amazing work from a few of our talented artist! Shoutout to Pets Of The Homeless Australia for the inspiration, and thier dedication to pets in need

06.01.2022 Sydney Friends looking for rescue, please meet Floozie, available for adoption through "Paws for Thought" Rescue. Floozie is 10years old, her adoption fee is $600. Please see further information on her write up and contact PFT directly for adoption inquiries.

05.01.2022 So, time for probably one of our proudest rescue updates. If you scroll down the page, you'll find Valley's story. Introducing Valley 2.0! In her 3 month stay with us, she's had several blood tests. We found out that she has a thyroid condition. So with medication and lots of love, we've got it stabilised.... The thyroid is a part of the endocrine system and it has some hugely complex roles in our (and our pets) lives. It is responsible for releasing hormones into the blood stream, which go on to regulate metabolism, skin, heart, breathing, filtering organs and much more. So when Valley arrived in such a state, it was amazing to see her blossom when the right care was introduced. We're beyond ecstatic to tell you have Valley's liver and kidney values have resolved, her skin is on the road to recovery, her gastrointestinal system is now top notch, her fur and all over condition is improving AND her heart murmur has deceased from a grade 5/6 down to a grade 3/4 and she is not showing any clinical signs of heart failure! As things are improving, she will have a dental, a deep ear treatment and... we will start looking for a local home for her! It's been a roller-coaster ride with her, where initially we were very guarded about her prognosis! At this point, we really wish to thank everyone that has been involved in her case, from organising Valley's surrender, transport, vet care, the people who donate to the rescue (this kind of rehab isn't a cheap or easy fix, it's a marathon - not a sprint!) and most recently her grooming needs by Woof N Wonderful. Stay tuned for her adoption profile.

04.01.2022 Happy International Day of the Dog! Pew is pretty happy, even though she didn't see the day of celebration approaching Our crew will get a special treat tonight... let us know how you'll be celebrating below!...
