17.01.2022 Our last one of these for @beaumaris_modern as lockdown lifts... #Repost @beaumaris_modern with @get_repost IMAGES FROM THE INSIDE #6... As we slowly and somewhat begrudgingly emerge from lockdown, we have a treat for our final ‘image from the inside’. Today we get a peek inside the amazing Bricknell House, designed by architect Charles Bricknell in 1952 and now being carefully restored by his grandson David and his partner Keara. David has an enviable set up, where, after brewing his morning coffee he heads downstairs to start his work day in the tranquil, light filled space. With a view of the pool and northern wing, the room has proven to be the perfect space for a home office. On her days off, Keara can often be found curled up on the Tessa t4 providing some much-appreciated office banter, says David. Apart from work, after hours the room doubles as a cosy hangout space, the perfect spot to enjoy a magazine and glass of red. But the fun really happens in summer, where the room also provides a great entertaining space for pool parties. And given the months we’ve just spent in iso, we’re betting the pool parties of summer 20/21 will be ones to remember Derek Swalwell @noise_co_ #beaumarismodern #mcm #midcenturymodern #architecture #history #preservation #charlesbricknell #beaumarisarchitects
17.01.2022 NO!SEMAKERS A treat today on the blog where we chat with Annie Price Creative director at advertising agency Wunderman Thompson, mum to Dot, owner of an enviable collection of velour pantsuits and mid-century modern addict, the energetic Annie Price is a woman who radiates warmth and fun. Her enthusiasm is contagious, her wardrobe is fabulous and her love for colour and all things retro is evident in her Melbourne mid-century home and Flinders holiday house @flindersnuthouse... also in Victoria. A self-described garage sale and op shop tragic, her hard rubbish finds are extraordinary and have their own instagram account, @finders_hoarders which itself is worthy of a follow. I have found myself in awe of some of the items she has rescued off the side of the road I’m certainly not driving the same streets as she is. Annie is a green thumb and oh so thrifty. Her gardens (and homes) are not only full of amazing plants, but many of these finds are upcycled, restored and scattered throughout, making them a wonderland of curios. As Vice-President of Melbourne’s not for profit group Beaumaris modern Annie’s passion for protecting the suburb’s mid-century homes is second to none. The group has 300+ members and helps celebrate, educate and preserve the mid-century architecture of this suburb, and it was when I was on the committee for a short time that I got to know Annie. I was taken by her dedication to the cause, and by the emotion and energy that she puts into the behind the scenes work that this group does. 10.01.2022 The past few days Nat and I have taken our morning ‘huddle’, team meetings outdoors! It feels productive on so many levels during isolation to walk and talk, plan our day and the week ahead, whilst on the move. Maybe it’s all the blood pumping around in our bodies that’s gets the creative juices flowing? Or the fresh outlook on life? Either way this view beats looking at me on Zoom with my messy hair and sleep creases! If you have missed our last couple of posts then che...ck out some of our recent blogs over the weekend that feature a few of the Bayside Women We Admire. Happy Friday! 10.01.2022 Today we recognise women of all ages and races, past, present and future and how the power of words from inspiring women can change the world. Here is one that resonates, among the millions of other incredible female authors! I have the nerve to walk my own way, however hard, in my search for reality, rather than climb upon the rattling wagon of wishful illusions. Zora Neale Hurston, 1891-1960... 04.01.2022 N O ! S E M A K E R S ! Don’t go into business with friends. It’s the oldest advice in the book, and thankfully, advice that was worth ignoring for Titia Huggard and Caroline Lawton of Six Pieces Residential & Interior Design when they merged their individual design practices five years ago. After 28 years of friendship the duo didn’t listen to the naysayers, and instead trusted that they knew each other well enough to know they would always put their friendship first. As... a result, their partnership has gone from strength to strength and the respect and connection they have for each other means they communicate well and work to resolve any on the job issues swiftly and efficiently. The ease in which they balance their business is inspiring, each bringing their unique strengths to the partnership. Titia is like her favourite bird the Kookaburra and rises very early. She finds this time in solitude her most creative and productive. I think of her as the lighthouse keeper, constantly keeping her eye on the bay, says Caroline, whereas I am more of a night owl, and enjoy the quiet of the house when the rest of the family are resting and utilise this time for my creative space. 02.01.2022 Introducing N O ! S E M A K E R S A chat with women we admire and what their ‘new normal’ looks like. Carla Murley, from Murley & Co - Queen of Hats ... What is your day job and what does it normally look like? I am a Milliner. Normally I spend 7 days a week creating millinery - I work solo and prefer it that way because I can’t find my creative mental space when I’m surrounded by people. What does lockdown look like for you? It’s myself, my husband Troy, our kids Ruby & Oscar and Great Dane Lola. We’ve divvied up the primary jobs: Troy is the Minister of Finance, Home Jobs & Physical Education. I am the Minister of Food, Health & AlcoholI leave home at 6.30am to grab the fresh food for the day and grab a coffee before the usual daylight traffic starts up. Once that’s done I spend the rest of the day ducking and weaving to find creative space to work whilst also being present with my family. So far so good. Has your work been impacted? I’d like to shout YES. Financially. Emotionally. Creatively. Financially, as a small business owner I had to make the decision to rent out my retail showroom long term, move the business home, and cut my income stream in half by removing the Millinery Hire range from my list of services. Emotionally, it’s just ego. I can deal with this. I love my own company so working solo within 4 walls doesn’t scare me. Creatively, it’s been a tough month. My husband started his career break mid-Feb and it took a bit of adjusting. No you CAN’T cook eggs right now because I’m f*ing working in the kitchen! will go down in history as our most ridiculous (yet favourite) argument EVER. Three items in your (panic buying) trolley? Fresh bread, fresh produce and wine. What you’re reading? Right now I’m reading Your own kind of girl by @clarebowditch I first met Clare when I was 22 She is and has always been someone I admire. The book is ace. She is ace. Go order yourself one, you’ll thank me later. You’ll never take for granted Being able to just pop in to see my Mum and Dad for a good old laugh and a glass of wine. If someone wrote a book about you, what would the title be? Who drank all the wine? To checkout some fabulous creations, please visit Murley & Co Millinery You can read the full interview on our latest blog at: http://noiseco.com.au/copywriting-blog/
