21.01.2022 Vintage 2020 update from AB: "Well that was a weird one. We were really lucky to be able to pick all of our fruit without any issues from smoke or fire from the start of the year. The yields were low across the board due to a dry winter and strong winds and rain during flowering in November, but the quality of the fruit we received was very good. We went into lockdown about half way through the busiest part of vintage, so we did have to forego a couple of parcels of frui...t that we were hoping to get but we managed to get a nice range of wines through ferment and they're now all safely tucked away in their barrels and tanks. At this early stage the wines are tasting great. We did pick them all with relatively low sugar - because they had plenty of flavour development early on - and this has led to great vibrancy and freshness in the wines. We managed to make most of our favourites and a few other new and exciting wines so we're looking forward to sharing them as the year unfolds. The first release for 2020 is likely to be 2 brand new varieties of Pet Nat so stay tuned!" See more

We'll be serving the wine, the Social Food Project will be dishing up their beautiful food and you and your mates can catch up and relax. Here's how it'll go:... Were now taking bookings for Friday & Saturday dinner (7pm) and Sunday lunch (2pm). To start with theres just one sitting, bookings are essential, and there's a 3-course feast format (all dietaries are catered for of course). Limited to 20 people per sitting initially, then (fingers crossed) expanding to 50 people from Friday 26 June. It goes without saying that we'll be adhering to patron limits, social distancing and hygiene measures to keep everybody safe. 13.01.2022 Just a few weeks ago we were expecting this day to go a little differently - today was supposed to be our 2020 Vintage Closing Night Party. We had heaps of stuff planned to celebrate getting the last wine into barrels - a couple of bands, yum food, new wines and a big old party. But as with most things at the moment, vintage 2020 didn't quite go to plan... We were lucky to have an amazing opening night party with our mates at Miznon, a few weeks of a delicious kitchen takeove...r by the Social Food Project, and we ran a heap of winemaking workshops and tours - stomping, pressing and getting heaps of great wine into barrels. But we had to pull the pin on our last group of winemaker membership sessions, a couple of other workshops and tours, a Harvest Dinner with the Social Food Project, an open day with Movida, and a couple of live music gigs too. We want to say thanks so much to the good folks at @miznonmelbourne @socialfoodproject @movidamelb @billyvancreamy @benmasoncomau @emmarussack & @brunswickmusicfest - hopefully we can revisit some of these events in some form once life opens back up again! To those members and others who missed out this year - cheers for your understanding and we're already looking forward to doing it all with you next year. If you did make it along to an event to stomp some grapes or eat some food or just bent the elbow - thanks for making it heaps of fun while it lasted! And when this craziness is over let's lock in a date to drink and eat and watch a band or two and be in a room together celebrating all the good stuff, because right now its pretty clear those are the best bits of life. Its a crisp, fruit driven and fresh Chardonnay.... Barrel fermented. Wild yeast. Wild malolactic. White peach, lemon zest, hints of honey and a backbone of mineral acidity. Yuuuum. 10.01.2022 Its about time for an update right? As of today were 5 weeks into our new iteration as a wine delivery service. Its been a huge change, made so much easier by the work of our amazing staff who (despite so much uncertainty) have been willing to do whatever it takes to keep the wheels turning. Weve been delivering wine all over Melbourne (in between moving houses and homeschooling and imminent babies) and its been so heartwarming to put wine outside so many front doors an...d meet / speak to / virtual high five so many kind faces (at a safe distance of course). We cant thank you enough for choosing to support a local small business and buy a #bunkerbox or two. Thanks to your support (and JobKeeper too, obviously) weve been able to keep most of our staff on the books, and the wolves from the door for now. Which wine that youve drunk/tasted do you most wish that youd made, and why? A. The first wine we made in 2014 was inspired by complex and juicy reds such as the wines of Gramenon but I still think we have a way to go before we achieve what we were trying to emulate then. It may not be possible but we have had a lot of fun trying and we are constantly finding new things to be inspired by. Q. Which wine that youve made or help make are you most pleased with? A. This is something that constantly changes but right now it is the newly released 2019 Noisy Ritual Sangiovese that strikes a great balance between new and old world expressions. Q. What cant you do without? A. Apart from wine? Cheese and of course coffee and loud music especially during vintage. Q. Whats next? A. More wine on tap and other alternative and sustainable packaging. Q. Who in the world of wine do you most admire A. Anyone who shares their passion and knowledge with others and helps to educate and inspire new wine lovers (we meet people like this all the time and we are very lucky to be in an industry where its so common) Q. They say it takes a lot of beer to make great wine. Whats your pick? A. We are constantly sampling new and interesting things and at the moment we are loving the beers from @tallboyandmoose. Q. No expense spared. One wine. What, where and how? A. Strangely as a Pinot Noir tragic, and occasional Nebbiolo obsessive, Im currently getting drawn in to Bordeaux wines. I think these type of wines are due for a comeback in the Australian market. 07.01.2022 We’re blending a couple of wines in Brunswick today. They’re the wines we made by hand with our winemaker members right before things were shut down in March. In any normal year we’d be gearing up for our Bottling Party - where we get all of our members together, set up a bottling line, get these wines into bottles, then open the doors to all and celebrate the end of the years winemaking with lots of wine, food and live music. This obviously isn’t a normal year though, so we...’ll be moving these wines over to our new warehouse in Preston where we can get our members together in smaller numbers (outside) and bottle these wines in a couple of weeks. Here’s hoping the stars will align for the return of the Bottling Party in 2021!

04.01.2022 Let us remember the before times. During vintage this year (seems like 72 years ago now!) we began working with The Social Food Project. They were feeding us all with their delicious wine-friendly food built for sharing. Remember? It was the best. Well, we're super happy that they've stayed by our side through all of this and are now running our kitchen. Their food is so so good and (turns out) they're an excellent bunch of folks to face the apocalypse with.... For those that don't know - The Social Food Project is a talented group of chefs led by Ben Mac (ex-Supernormal, Oakridge and Cumulus Inc) who are out to make the world a more sustainable and connected place, one amazing meal at a time through workshops, community engagement and a bunch of other great projects. These are some of my favourite humans (and doggo) and we were celebrating our new wine-making venue in Preston with a glass of champagne while we watching our first grape pressing at 11am on a Monday The last few weeks have been so uncertain and fucking hell in some aspects but in others? This team of humans are the best, kindest, hard-working people... I know and it is breaking my heart as we should be celebrating Vintage 2020 - not closing our doors. I havent had too much time to sit and reflect lately Ive been doing my best to check in on folks and do things for others through this time, but I sit here reflecting this morning: tearful but proud, hopeful and excited that well get through the next few months and be better than ever. I am so grateful to be a part of this team, people who care about people - who show generosity and kindness all the time - but especially when its needed.
