01.01.2022 From our pottery classes with Eva Nilssen

01.01.2022 So following the theme of more traditional art at Nolan Gallery, Tim Price is an inveterate plein air painter. Developed by the French Impressionists from the 1870s onwards, going outdoors to paint was something of a revelation and their paintings expressed the dimension of time, as the light and the weather changed across a sitting. It's exciting to work on an outdoor easel, assailed by bugs, curious dogs and onlookers and not for the faint hearted as Tasmania's icy winds blow up suddenly, scattering canvas and materials all around. Anyhow, here are a few of Tim's works as they might look indoors, framed and tamed. They are in order, Freycinet, Garden Path Through Wall and Time and Broadbeans with the painter at the end.
