16.01.2022 The evolution of man We are increasingly siting down hunched over a computer, staring at a phone or slumped on the coach binge watching Netflix. This is doing absolutely nothing for our posture, mental health and waist line....... Issues that we see regularly in clinic is hunched backs, forward rolling shoulders as people are losing the ability to articulate their spine or mobilise their shoulders as well as move their necks. The short and long term issues that can occur are huge. - Neck and back pain - Headaches - Locked shoulders - Compression of the spine - Risk of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and some cancers - Low mental health - Weight gain It’s not that hard to move a little bit everyday. Set a timer so you can stand up every couple of hours and go for a walk. It might be to the bathroom and back but at least it’s moving a bit. Be that crazy office person and when the timer goes off do 10 air squats, lunges or push ups. Break up your day, don’t sit at your desk and eat lunch, go for a walk and sit under a tree. Food that is arranged in a bowl like Buddha or poke bowls that you get in a health food shop or restaurant are simply sa...lads that have not been mixed. It’s easy to make these at home, and can save you a small fortune at the same time. BREAKY BOWLS So next time you make a smoothie, add extra fruit in it to make it super thick, pour it out into a bowl, sprinkle granola on top, slice some banana and finish with berries. Voila you have your own superfood breaky bowl. Remember it’s not a bowl unless you can eat it with a spoon. BUDDHA BOWLS Boiled egg, grilled tofu or chicken, fermented cabbage or pickles, grain or pulse and a green leaf like spinach, rocket or cress. We call Buddha bowls fancy left overs in our house as we always have a few pieces of left over vegetables or grilled meat in our fridge. Nutritional and sleep requirements are increased yet we often over look the need for increased mindfulness, meditation, movement and massage.... Weight gain is inevitable during pregnancy however not an excessive increase.
