25.01.2022 JobKeeper changes. The movement is mainly around being able to requalify, changing rates and period of enrolments. Here's some clarity about the expected changes to come.

25.01.2022 And it's that time of year again for NFP's. Have you booked your AGM? Are you worried about not being able to be together? What does your constitution allow?... Here's some tips from the Institute of Company Directors to help you make a plan.

24.01.2022 The south west is dotted with these colourful reminders to look after our mental health, to ask our friends if they are ok and to remind us we can share our stories if we are not ok. Every time I see a new one it makes me smile that the something so simple can have such a gentle yet powerful message.

24.01.2022 Interesting article from Business Australia on potential changes to HR in 2021, including use of the COVID vaccine, and proposed changes to the Fairwork Act.

23.01.2022 It’s out! Can’t wait. Love the Bunbury Fringe. Bunbury Fringe Festival 2021

22.01.2022 Hang in there Melbourne

19.01.2022 12 Must Do's for accurate financial reporting.

19.01.2022 Business Vs Hobby Deciding whether you're a business or a hobby just doesn't impact the ATO side of things, but may also impact who you can and can't deal with as a supplier. A statement by supplier might be needed if you don't classify yourself as a business. Here's some more info: https://business.gov.au//Difference-between-a-business-and

19.01.2022 Dear P&C’s...don’t forget...

19.01.2022 I have been less active on my social platforms over the past year, but this doesn't mean I have not still been doing what I love the most. People often ask me, ...'Nas, are you still cutting hair for the homeless?' Yes, I am. But I've also been offering service in other environments as well. You see, over the years while cutting on the streets, I began to notice a few similarities between some of my street clients. They had either just come out of prison, or had spent a large portion of their lives in and out of the system. A few years ago, I thought to myself: 'why not take the skill of barbering and show it to people who are incarcerated?' Considering that barbering is what helped put me on the right path almost a decade ago, I started doing this in the hope that barbering could help those incarcerated as they looked to build a more positive future for themselves. Now, after a year, we've completed our first program and I couldn’t believe how much the students have grown - both in terms of their skills, and their overall mindset. It's been a blessing to be a part of this experience. #wenotme #allpraisetothemosthigh See more

18.01.2022 If you're 'topping up' your employment income with something on the side, you want to make sure you know the difference between a hobby and a business. If it looks like a business and smells like a business... The ATO will take into consideration using a business name, the systematic nature of your business and business activities as well as some other items in this link from the ATO to help you decide. https://www.ato.gov.au//before-you-g/are-you-in-business-/

17.01.2022 One of the best parts of our Treasury workshops is to be able to meet so many great people, not only graciously giving up their time, but who tell us so much about all the different activities our region provides. I'm always so incredibly grateful for those of you that provide feedback, especially when it's as positive as this. If you are interested in our regular Treasury workshops, please drop us an email or a PM. Workshops are provided in house and online.

16.01.2022 Anyone else looking forward to this?

15.01.2022 Always a great day out

15.01.2022 I’m a bit of a market lover. And this is one of favourite market days. It’s one of those special ideas the crew at Milligan have been inspired with and it’s back this Saturday at 10. Even if you don’t have something, come along for a cuppa, see how it works, maybe pick up something for free or just be prepared for next time.

13.01.2022 Now this looks like fun. Have you visited any if the Bunbury Fringe Festival 2021 events yet? Tells us which ones!

13.01.2022 Well I’m not sure about sun... it is Melbourne after all But we are so super proud of you Melbournians and look forward to seeing you back to the ‘new normal’ soon.

11.01.2022 Are you an active Board of committee member of a not for profit - or thinking you might like to be? I've always found being a board member so rewarding, if you're prepared to give freely. Board & committee members shouldn't be taken for granted, and we do need to remember their roles are one of support although sometimes depending on the size and advancement of the organisation, boards do need to contribute a bit more. The ACNC has a great resource if you're thinking about ...it, or if you're already 'on board' but not sure what you got yourself in for. 10.01.2022 Where were you watching?

10.01.2022 Fantastic news for Bunbury Fringe Festival 2021 2022. If you haven’t visited one of their events grab a ticket before it ends.

08.01.2022 YOU GOT THIS WA! As we once again find ourselves in a (hopefully) short but sweet lockdown, remember; 1. we've done this, and 2. all the lessons we learned early last year. I'm already seeing so many of you quickly pivot your services and you're transitioning like champions. I'm SO IMPRESSED! Restaurants are already letting their customers know what will be available. Sports clubs are all over it.... Keep going guys and fingers crossed we are back to COVID 'normal' by Friday. Fingers crossed.

08.01.2022 What a thoughtful initiative by our local high school.

08.01.2022 This looks incredible.

08.01.2022 How good is your volunteer treasurer? Could they win you some funding?

05.01.2022 And so it begins. Another amazing local mural. Can’t wait to see it finished.

05.01.2022 Nice work Milligan.

05.01.2022 There are still funding opportunities available for COVID relief.

04.01.2022 Are you a community shed, looking for DGR endoresment? Or maybe have received your endorsement, but activities may have changed? From 1 October 2020, a new general category of deductible gift recipients (DGR) for community sheds will be available. This information (in the link below) explains the requirements that a community shed must satisfy to be endorsed by us as a DGR. #MensShed #WomensShed... #CommunityShed https://www.ato.gov.au//In-/Types-of-DGRs/Community-sheds/

04.01.2022 It's such a short, simple yet incredibly important question. Particularly given the events affecting our planet right now. Today is R U OK Day. ... Sometimes we are afraid to ask because...what next? Here's a link to learn what to say after R U OK? https://www.ruok.org.au/learn-what-to-say-after-r-u-ok-with To all my fabulous friends and clients who've been so great at supporting and leaning on each other during 2020....thankyou.

03.01.2022 Do you receive grants, you're registered for GST and sometimes you're confused about which grants you should attach GST to and which ones you don't? The GST treatment of grants depends primarily on whether the grant represents consideration that has the relevant connection with a taxable sale. This will depend on the particular facts and circumstances of each grant program. Here's a useful link from the ATO: https://www.ato.gov.au//Governme/In-detail/GST-and-grants/

03.01.2022 Congratulations Morrissey!

02.01.2022 I'm so excited when someone wants to talk about a new business idea they feel passionate about. Something that will leave a legacy, impact the way people live, create a better quality of life. When they want to set up a not for profit, this is truly exciting in the way that it offers more to so many. The first question you need to ask yourself is, how much control am I willing to hand over? If you're not, then a NFP may not be the steering device for you and your idea. Boards may not agree with you, and may even see something bigger than you. And that's ok. But, if you're happy to let go of the reigns, and see where the wind takes you, allow others to jump in your car and take on the wheel, then that's something else to think about.

02.01.2022 When you love your job, but you realise every day doesn't need to be 'happy' you might be onto something.

02.01.2022 Great tips! And timely.
