24.01.2022 Courtesy of the amazing @dr.amichiro You will want to SAVE this post, as this position is a game changer! The reinforced tiger in the tree pose is my favourite for the following reasons:... great for colicky babies this counts as tummy time! elongates the spine and avoids slumped or compensated postures for baby gives baby’s head a break, which aids head shape add in little inversions to activate baby’s vestibular or balance system great for mums posture as baby is centred, shoulders can be relaxed and core activated neutral wrist position avoids painful, inflamed wrist/thumb pain Tag a mumma or mumma to be below this post, as this position is a game changer! 24.01.2022 Introducing the gorgeous Niki! . If you haven’t already had the pleasure of meeting Niki, this is the fabulous human who is on the front desk half the time! . You can now call; and if she’s there someone will answer! ... . Niki is from Saskatchewan in Canada; moved to Noosa a decade ago; and now is a Northern Beaches local . You may recognize her as a Yoga Teacher from @soulpersonaltraining and @fitnessfirst ; Or from @lululemonausnz in Mosman. #supportinglocal @thinkmosmanfirst . She’s also a friend of mine and has so kindly offered to help me (and you!) by holding the fort on the front desk at Nomad Chiro when she’s available! . Don’t be shy, say hi . Random fun fact - aside from any yoga or active wear advice, Niki is also a plant whisperer so if you need any tips she’s your girl! . She may be sitting though, with an epic ankle injury > we’ve called on @innovations_physio_pilates to help with her recovery. The hilarious Sarah at Innovations Physio in Mosman is helping us to get Niki back on her feet!! (Thanks Sarah!!) . Yayayayayy Nomad has some reception help and we couldn’t be more grateful! . 21.01.2022 B L O G. A L E R T! . Original post: Australian Chiropractic Association Blog. (For full article see: https://www.nomadchiropractic.com.au/nomadchiropracticblog).... From the office chair to the couch, Australians are spending more time seated than ever before. With many of us either still working from home, or under new flexible working arrangements, on top of spending more time at home, don’t let sitting become your new bad habit. Research suggests office workers in Australia are now sitting for up to 10 hours a day.1 Sitting for long periods can have negative effects on the body, increasing a person’s risk of developing heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.2 Not to mention the negative effects incorrect sitting can have on your spinal health and posture. .... read on here: https://www.nomadchiropractic.com.au//dont-make-sitting-yo For more information see the ACA website or contact us today!. - References: Safe Work Australia 2017, Sitting and Standing, www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/sedentary, Web. 17.01.2022 P A I N + V E S T I B U L A R _____ ‘The pathways of the vestibular system overlap with pathways that are involved with anxiety, depression, migraines and pain.’ -Balaban 2013 . Overlap means they can influence each other. Influence one and you change the other. ... . What does vestibular mean? Inner ear balance mechanism . ‘Psychological conditions, when present prior to a vestibular disorder, may increase vestibular symptoms. Likewise, the onset of a vestibular disorder may cause psychological symptoms that were originally not present. . Common complaints with many vestibular disorders are difficulty concentrating, difficulty paying attention, poor memory, increased dizziness with sound, light and busy environments, headaches and poor balance, along with increased or new anxiety or depression.’ -Vestibular.org . What’s a takeaway? Movement and physical health and psychological health are intimately connected . One of the reasons why doing rocking and rolling and tumbling patterns on the ground can have such a profound impact on how you feel. It’s not just kids play. It can very well change your life more than you ever imagined .. Post by #Repost @stopchasingpain with @get_repost STOPCHASINGPAIN.com #stopchasingpain #vestibular

14.01.2022 M A S T I T I S. . This in from Naturopath and wondermum @olivia_mcfadyen_naturopath I've got issues with oversupply of milk. Always have We always joked that my body thought it was feeding twins and now it is, and I've still got too much milk!... I woke up the other morning at 2am covered in sweat. Every muscle was aching. My head throbbed. I knew mastitis was coming on, & quickly. By morning I had a temp of 39 degrees & I was calling my hubby from another room to pass me the babies for feeding. Thank goodness for the village - my mum was over in a jiffy to look after the big kids and do the school run! As always, I'm so grateful for INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE... the combo of natural and conventional medicine. I went back and saw my midwife & OB for an assessment when I was unwell. I was prescribed antibiotics. Am I upset? No. It's far from ideal BUT I feel so lucky that I get to take antibiotics for the acute infection and I can use natural options to support my body's immunity & gut health including food, fluids and a few supplements. Happy days. I'll be back to my normal cow-feeding style in no time! And I'll stay on probiotics for 4 months post antibiotics. Natural Options for Mastitis (& what I’m doing to reduce another bout) 1 Probiotics Studies show that some strains of probiotics have resulted in lower occurrence of recurring mastitis + Qiara probiotics, which contains Lactobacillus Fermentum, a strain found in breast milk + Mother and Baby 2-in-1 probiotic formula to reduce side effects of antibiotics, support babies gut flora & immune health & support my gut microbiome. 2/day 2 Garlic, onion & greens (including asparagus, rocket and spinach) Prebiotic veggies that are also known for their antibiotic, antibacterial & antimicrobial properties + Eating 2 cloves of garlic/day as it's known as 'Nature's Antibiotic' 3 Belladonna - homeopathic remedy Help during acute symptoms of mastitis, including fever, breast tenderness and redness 4 Bone broth It's gut healing, nutrient-dense and rich in amino acids; all which help 'seal and heal' gut lining & support immunity 5Mastitis-Be-Gone Essential O . . . Thank you for sharing lovely

12.01.2022 Primitive Reflexes! . Primitive reflexes are reflex actions originating in the central nervous system that are exhibited by normal infants, but not neurologically intact adults, in response to particular stimuli. These reflexes are suppressed by the development of the frontal lobes as a child transitions normally into child development. .... Examples are: Rooting reflex... Sucking reflex. ... Moro or Startle reflex. ... Stepping reflex. ... Placing reflex. ... Palmar grasp reflex. ... Plantar grasp reflex. ... ...... They help our babies survive. . So what happens if they’re not firing properly? > a simple example could be breastfeeding difficulty! . Or what happens if the signaling doesn’t dampen when they’re meant to? . They may show up as behavioral and motor skill things! . 11.01.2022 During the first 2 years of life, a child’s brain is forming neural connections at an exponential rate. These connections are fuelled by physical interactions, touch, play and sleep. . Is screen time recommended? . No. The World Health Organization recommends no passive screen time for children under 2. ... . Why not? . passive screen time requires no effort or movement, therefore not aiding developmental milestones, muscle strength etc poor posture, especially during an age of spinal development children learn from human interaction, not 2 dimensional screens, especially at a young age images on a screen can move too fast for a developing brain to process, and has been shown to alter attention span children need to be bored; if they are constantly stimulated, they won’t be able to rely on themselves for entertainment eg imaginative play screen time has been shown to reduce empathy. Babies communication is nonverbal, and so they learn to read faces from human interaction, which is not possible through screen time. . Is FaceTime allowed? . FaceTime is ok (thank goodness!), as the movement is generally slow and the interaction is usually specific to that child. ... #Repost @dr.amichiro with @get_repost

07.01.2022 This from @nutmegnaturopathy on SLEEP! ... NNNight Routine ... What is your nighttime routine? How do you help yourself wind down at night? Sleep is one of THE MOST important things for our well-being. Sleep allows for our body systems to repair and regenerate, including our precious nervous system, adrenals and brain! A few days with zero sleep, we would be completely dysfunctional!! And although vital, sleep is often one of the first things we sacrifice to get stuff done Ideally, we want to aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep/night, depending on you and what your body requires. It is science. There are a few genetically predisposed individuals or those that partake in DEEP meditation daily that can cope with less sleep. Yet for most of us, we need to be aiming for that 7-9 hrs/night. Remember, everything starts with sleep. There are nights that are just beyond your control, if you have small kids etc this is OK and hopefully only temporary . Yet, there are a number of strategies/habits we can form to help us wind down at night and get a better night's sleep. Want to get your hands on some of these sleep hygiene tips?! 06.01.2022 This in from @nutmegnaturopathy .. . M O D E R A T I O N ! . Why this post? Firstly, it has one of my amazing humans in it @nomad_chiro (oh that’s me! Haha) and one of my favourite drinks....heeeellloooo Espresso Martini.... Secondly, it's aalllll about moderation. I do not and will not ever expect PURE health and wellness in all that my patients do and consume every second of every day. That is completely unrealistic, boring, insane and just downright silly! For me, achieving health and wellness is actually all about moderation when it comes to food and lifestyle. Eating a wholefoods diet and living a wholesome life is not about restricting and depriving yourself. That would do no good for anyone (trust me, I tried ). Keeping in mind there are foods/drinks (ahem....espresso martinis) that do not necessarily nourish our cells, but they are damn delicious and part of a balanced diet. It is OK to eat/drink them!! I am not promoting an espresso Martini every day, but when the mood strikes - heck YES! All in moderation my friends! We literally live once. And that's it. Apart from flexibility with food, allowing yourself some kind of luxury each day is a lovely way to also achieve moderation...it could be running a bath, reading a book, having time out to meditate, booking in that weekend away, switching off screens at night and so on. Enjoy your day . . . . . 04.01.2022 Thanks to the @brainchat for this one! . The Polyvagal Theory by Dr. Stephen Porges discusses three nervous system states: . 1. First, our fight and flight response is our survival strategy, a response from the sympathetic nervous system. If you were going to run from tiger, for example, you want this response to save your life. When we have a fight response, we can have anger, rage, irritation, and frustration. If we are having a flight response, we can have anxiety, wor...ry, fear, and panic. Physiologically, our blood pressure, heart rate, and adrenaline increase and it decreases digestion, pain threshold, and immune responses. . 2. Second, we have a freeze state, our dorsal vagal state, which is our most primitive pattern, and this is also referred to as our emergency state. This means that we are completely shut down, we can feel hopeless and feel like there’s no way out. We tend to feel depressed, conserve energy, dissociate, feel overwhelmed, and feel like we can’t move forward. Physiologically, our fuel storage and insulin activity increases and our pain thresholds increase. . 3. Lastly, our rest and digest is a response of the parasympathetic system, also known as a ventral vagal state. It is our state of safety and homeostasis. If we are in our ventral vagal state, we are grounded, mindful, joyful, curious, empathetic, and compassionate. This is the state of social engagement, where we are connected to ourselves and the world. Physiologically, digestion, resistance to infection, circulation, immune responses, and our ability to connect is improved. .
