11.02.2022 In today’s streaming-first landscape, every acquisitions deal demanded an answer to the same question: How will your movie cut through the noise for audiences faced with an endless number of all-you-can-eat content buffets?
25.01.2022 Nomad Pictures is BACK This Month // Another Round 6.30pm Friday 30th April (M) (DK) 116 min The Strand Cinema ... Four friends, all teachers at various stages of middle age, are stuck in a rut. Unable to share their passions either at school or at home, they embark on an audacious experiment from an obscure philosopher: to see if a constant level of alcohol in their blood will help them find greater freedom and happiness. At first they each find a new- found zest, but as the gang pushes their experiment further, issues that have been simmering for years come to a head and the men are faced with a choice: reckon with their behavior or continue on the same course. Underscored by delicate and affecting camerawork, director Thomas Vinterberg's spry script, co-written with regular collaborator Tobias Lindholm, uses this bold premise to explore the euphoria and pain of an unbridled life. Playing a once brilliant but now world-weary shell of a man, the ever surprising Mads Mikkelsen delivers a fierce and touching performance. Tickets available now Link in bio

24.01.2022 ANOTHER ROUND 6.30pm Friday 30th April (M) (DK) 116min The Strand Cinema, Toowoomba. 1/2 "...Another Round is a truly wonderful movie about trying to come to grips with life, anchored by terrific performances, infectious music, and a real understanding of the humming discontentment that all adults must learn to navigate in their own ways. It’s the sort of comedy fused with tragedy that may just best represent what life really is: a melancholy, glorious, slightly off-kilter dance." - Alissa Wilkinson, Vox. Courtesy @goldwynfilms

20.01.2022 "While Another Round inspects the varying effects of alcohol on daily life, it’s far from clinical. Waves of ebullience, love, humor and sorrow crash on top of each other, as anyone who’s ever been overserved can attest to. It isn’t prescriptive about drinking, and doesn’t seek to impart any message other than that life is hard, and sometimes dark, and sometimes ecstatically beautiful. Alcohol can unlock freedom, joy and playfulness, but it can also easily be destructive and fatal, which is never far from reality in Another Round. 12.01.2022 THE MOLE AGENT Today 12:00 pm | The Strand Cinema, Toowoomba. SELECTED: SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL 2020... TFF Toowoomba kicks off day two with Chilean director Maite Alberdi’s delightful character study of sweet-natured elderly widower, Sergio, as he infiltrates a nursing home at the behest of a private detective agency. Unfortunately, Sergio is a truly terrible spy. He answers phone calls on speaker in front of other residents, asks the carers blatant and obvious questions, breaks spy camera equipment and more. Although no James Bond, he's a kind-hearted man who brings solace and the frisson of attention to the mostly female residents with tender patience and platonic affection. Alberdi's films have long been popular on the festival circuit, including Sydney Film Festival, for their remarkable warmth and humanity. Her latest work, The Mole Agent, is no exception. Her compassionate, often humorous, never judgmental, approach, paints a poignant portrait of life in a Chilean care home and perils of being a spy. SYNOPSIS Written and Directed by one of our all-time favourite auteurs, Paul Thomas Anderson, LICORICE PIZZA tracks the treacherous navigation of first love in 1970’s Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley - it’s title referencing a much-loved chain of Southern California record stores that tempted patrons with free licorice, comfy couches and racks of music mags alongside the coolest vinyl releases. PTA has put together an ensemble to rival his previous masterpieces Boogie Nights and Magnolia, with Bradley Cooper, Benny Safdie, Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Maya Rudolph, John C. Reilly and newcomer Cooper Hoffman (son of the late Anderson veteran Philip Seymour Hoffman) in his film debut, starring as Gary Valentine, a young actor falling for Alana Kane (Haim's Alana Haim) and discovering that young love is a tangled time for all.
