We... just wanted to remind everyone that not all our most popular destinations are ready, or safe, for visitors yet. For example, the popular Toorongo Falls Walk and the Blue Pool camping area both remain closed as they undergo exciting major upgrades as part of Victoria’s Great Outdoors program. We appreciate this may change your plans, however there are still many more active sites to visit in Gippsland. If you had planned on heading to the Toorongo Falls Walk, you could try other nearby spots such as Poplars Reserve and Latrobe River Picnic & Camping Area. 10.01.2022 7:30AM SAT 4 JAN - Gippsland fires overview Don’t be deceived by this morning’s calmer conditions Overnight most of the fire activity has been in the high count...ry right across East Gippsland where it has remained hotter, windier and drier Many fires are beginning to join up particularly around the Princes Highway area from Orbost through to Cann River and Genoa Three fires around the Omeo region joined up overnight to become a 6,000 hectare fire and it is now moving towards the Cobungra area (around 7KMS away from Cobungra and approx. 20KMS from Omeo at around 6:30AM) Conditions stayed milder around the more southern/lower parts of the region with lower temperatures and lighter winds than predicted but this is likely to change into mid-morning/lunchtime As the day progresses and weather heats up the risk will increase right across the region Fires north of Bairnsdale have fortunately remained reasonably steady overnight but the risk is still real in this area and the community needs to stay very much aware of conditions and relevant warnings through VicEmergency throughout this morning and into the afternoon Further wind and weather changes are expected in the region by mid-afternoon which will have varying impacts on different fires Around the Dargo and Licola areas significant community protection works are underway with dozers- campers should not be around these areas- with the entire Alpine National Park and Mitchell River National Park remaining closed as are most of the State Forests in the area A reminder that the Princes Highway between Lakes and Orbost is NOW closed. 09.01.2022 With the introduction of Stage 3 restrictions and the Stay at Home Direction under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, S 200, this notice has been issued ...effective until 13th April 2020. Effective immediately the resort is closed to the public and staff will undertake the road closure protocols by placing a staff member at gate entry for the foreseeable future. We will still have staff working on both of the resorts undertaking maintenance, safety and other essential activities. As many staff as possible are working from home currently (over 60% of the work force). Southern Alpine Resort Management Board has the power to effect a temporary closure of a resort under the ALPINE RESORTS (MANAGEMENT) REGULATIONS 2009 - REGULATION 7.

03.01.2022 Toorongo Falls campground still closed for rest and repair The Toorongo Falls camping area will need some more time to recover and establish good grass cove...r before reopening in the new year. The upgraded site has been wet and boggy over winter and has not had a chance to recover enough yet for camping. Forest Fire Management Victoria has re-seeded the site again, repaired vandalised bollards and fence posts and completed some finishing touches to Campground One. Campground Two has been completed and both sites will be rested and ready for reopening in summer, probably by the beginning of the new year. Access to the day visitor area, walking tracks and the falls will remain open. Alternative camping is available nearby at Poplars Reserve, Checking Station, Latrobe River Picnic and Camping Area. - Thanks to DELWP Gippsland for this update.
