Holi celebrates the arrival of spring, the blossoming of love, the opportunity to meet others, play, laugh, forgive past disputes and just have a great time. Like many other traditions, there are many versions of the origin story. Some perceive Holi as a re-enactment of Krishna and Radha's blossoming love, while others view it as a celebration of Lord Vishnu's triumph over evil. . . This dance cover of Mohe Rang Do Laal (Colour Me Red), from the film "Bajirao Mastani", is my interpretation of Radha's love for Krishna. In one tale, Krishna approaches Radha, but fearing that she would reject him because of his dark complexion, asks her to colour his face in any powder she wants. To which, Radha chooses red. Thus their love blossomed and grew through playful pranks. I have interpreted the notion of "red" as the colour of marriage - Radha asking Krishna to relive their first moment as a couple and to make her his bride. . . This is a bollywood fusion piece, incorporating basic elements of Kathak, and is in no way a reflection of the art in it's purest form. Kathak, like the other Natya Shrashtra art forms, takes years to learn and even longer to master.
