15.01.2022 We caught up with Joel Fostin to see how the local Pandanus trees on Noosa Main Beach are looking a year after our project together ended. The leaf hopper remains present as is the parasitoid wasp that helps keep it at bay. Joel continues his monitoring and control work throughout the Noosa Biosphere Reserve now thanks to the support of Noosa Council. Read more about the Pandanus Preservation project we funded: https://bit.ly/2EWh0oQ To stay updated, follow Joel and his work at Pandanus Dieback Education and Information Page.

15.01.2022 Bear, one of the Koala Detection Dogs for Conservation and his proud trainer Dr Romane Cristescu will be centre stage at the USC: University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia for an update session with the Queensland Koala Crusaders on their latest research this Monday. Congratulations also goes to Associate Professor Celine Frere, who heads up the Koala research unit, who was presented with one of the state’s top scientific awards this last week in Brisbane, the Queensland Young Tall Poppy Scientist of the Year. The QKC information session will be held at USC, Monday 7 Sept at 5.30pm building K, Lecture Theatre 2.

15.01.2022 Our team headed along to Dr Romane Cristescu's presentation about the vital work her team are doing at the USC: University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia in the Koala Detection Dogs for Conservation unit. We met stars of the show Maya and Bear who are trained to locate koala scat as one way to map koala distribution and genetic health. The Detection Dogs were also used to locate koalas after the 2019/20 bushfires in Noosa and northern NSW and were able to rescue and rehabil...itate a number of koalas. We're proud to support vital koala research in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve. The koala is listed as vulnerable with a number of key threats and it's critical we continue to understand our unique local populations so we can protect their future. Shout out to Queensland Koala Crusaders, ifaw and WWF and many others for their ongoing support of the USC Detection Dogs research team. Working together is how we will save our koala.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Celine Frere, behavioural ecologist and co-leader of the Detection Dogs for Conservation unit at USC: University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, for receiving one of the state's top science prizes, the Queensland Young Tall Poppy Scientist of the Year award! Science is critical to our understanding of the world and, certainly in my field, how we manage our resources to protect our precious ecosystems, - Dr Frere We've been working with Dr Frere and her team for the last 5 years on some exciting research projects to understand our local Koala populations in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve. The work they do is vitally important to saving Noosa's koala. Congratulations Celine for your contribution to science - and the koala.

07.01.2022 When there's something strange, in your Pandanus tree, who you gonna call? Joel Fostin! This man's work is never done. In 2018 we armed Joel with funding to undertake a survey of 4200 pandanus plants along the Noosa Shire coastal zone and Noosa National Park to stop the harmful leafhopper from killing off this iconic plant. Now, he's continuing his work on Noosa North Shore. Great work Joel! ... Pandanus Dieback Education and Information Page
