23.01.2022 Something interesting to see in gardens in August is the Cardboard Cycad (Zamia furfuracea) - a native of Mexico, the male and female cones are produced on separate plants. The photo shows female cones. It is a very popular garden plant in the subtropics but is poisonous to animals and humans.
22.01.2022 Currumbin OPEN GARDEN: 26-27 SEPTEMBER. Bob and Ev Marshall were so passionate about the Japanese style of garden they meticulou...sly researched and developed Tani Tei En at their Gold Coast hinterland property before theyd even visited Japan! As soon as you enter the enclosed garden you experience the sense of peace and exquisite beauty for which Japanese gardens are known. Youll soon get an opportunity to experience it yourself when the garden opens. It is maturing beautifully and Ev says the cherry trees should be in full blossom. The Southern Beaches Community Garden will be selling Asian style food as well as morning and afternoon teas. Coffee will be available from Espresso Xcellence Coffee Cart. A bonsai technician will be on site 9-1 each day. You are welcome to take along your bonsai for a health check. Lots of native and exotic plants will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to the Southern Beaches Community Garden and the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. On this beautiful 4.5 hectare property theres plenty of room to comply with social distancing and Covid-19 safe practices. Scroll through for more details.
22.01.2022 Autumn can be a special time in any garden, with colours varying in preparation for winter's onset. But at Noosa Botanic Gardens, the array of colours is even more spectacular. So why not take a guided walk in the park, courtesy of the Friends of Botanic Gardens, where you can find out about swamp cypresses from the US Deep South, or the elusive flowers of the elephant apple - and with recent rains, lots of fungi may be appearing to add extra lustre to the scenery. Your Frien...d-ly guide will spend an hour taking you through the various locations of the gardens in what will be a pleasant and uplifting experience for anyone with even the mildest of green thumbs. And you can bring your dog along - but only on a leash! This Autumn Seasonal Guided Walk is on Sunday May 16 from 8am to 9am. Meet at the main shelter, adjacent to the lower and middle car parks, and bring: sensible shoes, ha, sunscreen and insect repellent. Oh and don't forget your camera! Noosa Botanic Gardens are on Lake Macdonald Drive, about 4km from Cooroy. For more information visit www.noosabotanicgardensfriends.com

15.01.2022 This Sunday in the Gardens - Ephemeral Gatherings with Beatrice Prost & Music by Sharelle Guest : Come and join Beatrice in the Shade Garden to create ephemeral arrangements to soak up the gardens beauty and energy. Create with found materials outsourced in the gardens while being inspired by the finds and the place. Ephemeral art in a garden is created with withered or wilted matters that vegetal life naturally produces. Different crops of discarded natural beauties will b...e the source of our materials to create spontaneously and ephemerally. Once the visual storyboard idea has germinated, each making creative journey is grounding and meditative. It connects participants to the essence of the moment and the place. Beatrice will also be joined by Sharelle Guest, leading flautist of Noosa Orchestra. Sharelle will play a selection from her extensive repertoire. And of course, the Shade Garden is also open this Sunday too! Bookings : https://bit.ly/3tWz07a
