13.02.2022 In Chinese medicine it’s very important to cover your neck when it’s cold and windy. The back of the neck is particularly vulnerable to wind, and when your pores are open pathogens can enter your body’s energy channels. So, after exercising at the gym, yoga etc, rug up before going out into the cold.
03.02.2022 B R E A T H E Are you aware of your breath? Where is it coming from? Is it your chest, your belly, is it shallow, fast or slow and deep? Are you holding on to it? Are you conscious of it at all? When we are upset or stressed our breathing becomes quick and shallow.... Breathing deeply and slowly instantly calms us down, mentally as well as physically. Below is an easy technique to help you learn how to take deeper breaths, all the way down to your belly: Get comfortable lie on your back in bed or sit in a chair with your shoulders, head and neck supported. Breathe in through your nose. Let your belly fill with air. Breathe out through your nose. Place one hand on your belly. Place the other hand on your heart. As you breathe in, feel your belly rise. Imagine that the air is filled with a sense of peace and calm. Try to feel it throughout your body. As you breathe out, feel your belly lower. The hand on your belly should move more than the one that’s on your chest. Imagine that the air leaves with your stress and tension. Continue with these deep full breaths for at least 5 minutes. The more you practice this technique throughout the day, the easier it will be to use when you need to feel centred and grounded.

22.01.2022 I love creating custom blends for clients. A beautiful 6 year old was having difficulty settling into her class this term and in her session muscle testing indicated that this roller ball combination would help: Crowea To help relax and let go of what may happen in the future.... Dog Rose To help with confidence and courage. Lavender for nurturing, comforting and calming. Frankinscense for grounding and peacefulness. She was so excited to have her magic potion to rub onto her pulse points throughout the day:) DM me if you or your little one would like a personalised blend.
14.01.2022 Can you believe it is Autumn already? Autumn is associated with the Metal element in Chinese medicine and the organs that come into play for Autumn are the Lungs and Large Intestine responsible for ‘letting in and letting go’. Make sure you are breathing fully and deeply. Not only do we breathe in oxygen, but we also breathe in the chi (or life force) of the air.... The body is particularly susceptible to wind and cold during autumn. Dryness can cause symptoms of coughing, sore throat, dry skin, dry hair and scalp, cracked lips and dry hard stools. Emotionally this is the season associated with grief and sadness. It is important to keep the mind clear and ‘let go of negative emotions, which can impact health more strongly during this time. If we follow the cues given to us by nature, it is easy to keep healthy and balanced during Autumn: Breathe deeply. Breathing exercises which strengthen the lungs, increase energy and still the mind are particularly good for this time of year. Most people take short, shallow breaths into their chest which can make you feel anxious and sap your energy. The lungs control the skin in TCM, so body brushing and making sure you are well hydrated will aid the function of this organ. Cover the nape of your neck if it’s cold or windy (as this is a common point for external wind to enter our bodies and be a contributor to the onset of poor health). Practice letting go Autumn is the season to unburden ourselves of old hurts and resentments. A good exercise is writing out everything that you feel is still lingering, focusing on all the emotion you are holding within you. When you are done, tear it up and throw it in the bin or burn it. Eat fewer cold, uncooked foods and more warm, cooked foods. Incorporate foods with the properties that match the vivid hues of the falling leaves: red, orange and yellow. Make sure you are getting enough sleep as this is an important aspect of staying healthy in Autumn.
