24.01.2022 the humble Soldier Crab is a much loved crab for many reasons - unlike most crabs they never take a sideways step - always marching forward; they’re the ‘vacuum cleaners’ of the lower estuary’s sandy shoals - towards the bottom of the falling tide they emerge from the sand to march en masse down to the shallows to feed briefly but furiously on delectable detritus; but they’re not just a quaint amusement - without them the sandy shoals of the lower river wouldn’t be quite so pristine & ‘well kept’ .. #noosariver #noosa #noosaheads #noosaville #tewantin #boreenpoint #soldiercrabs #crustacean #sustainability #estuary #estuarineecosystem #estuarineecology #noosariverfoundation
