21.01.2022 Noosa Museum in Pomona celebrates 35 years of collecting local history this year. This wonderful article in the Noosa News (May 3, 1985) captures the day. We particularly love the photo of local identity Bill Hollis wearing his stockman’s hat which has since been donated to the Museum. Officials on the day included Vic Depper (84) and Jessie Tronson (97)- at that time two of Pomona’s oldest residents. The article reminds us that 2020 also marks 120 years since the Pinbarren Siding Post Office was officially renamed Pomona Post Office. Also 110th anniversary for Noosa Shire Council and Noosa Show Society - both of which were founded in the hinterland town of Pomona.

19.01.2022 A great resource for families and researchers. Thanks Noosa Shire Council.

19.01.2022 There’s nothing which says summer holidays more than dad packing up his Alvey fishing reel to go to the beach. Did you have/ do you still still have an iconic Alvey reel? Alvey, which was founded in St Lucia, Brisbane, turns 100 years old this year and Noosa Museum is pleased to have one of these historic reels in our collection. After a visit to the Museum by Bruce Alvey a few years ago, he decided we needed an Alvey for our collection. An original 1950s reel promptly arrive...d in the post. We are grateful for the thoughtful donation. Read here how Alvey has had a second wind after revived public interest in the product kept the business alive. https://www.google.com.au/amp/amp.abc.net.au/article/9680648

17.01.2022 This 2013 news clip in the Cherry Venture appeared on another site today so thought I’d share. Who else recalls visiting the Cherry Venture on Teerwah? Noosa Museum has a number of relics from the wreck in our displays.

16.01.2022 This article and wonderful collection of photos is guaranteed to take you back in time. Written almost 100 years ago, it’s a reminder of the natural beauty which has attracted visitors to Noosa over many years. Enjoy!

15.01.2022 If anyone out there is interested in volunteering for the role of Treasurer for the Cooroora Historical Society, please make contact with President Trish Kearton 5485 1080 to discuss the role. AGM 11am 24th October 2020.

15.01.2022 Our volunteers are back at work sprucing up the exhibits and finding a few treasure in the process. Our research today found that these ‘skeleton’ style cricket pads are dated pre-1900. The ‘skeleton’ is made of cane covered with leather and held together with thick leather straps so they would have been quite heavy to wear. Posssibly why the design was modified by the turn of the century. These cricket pads were discovered by a keen eyed volunteer at a local op shop over 20 ...years ago. It made us think about if they would have been used by a local player and where and when cricket has been played in Noosa Shire over the years. Anyone have any family stories to share?

15.01.2022 Noosa Museum Will now reopen Tuesday 2 February 2021. See you then.

14.01.2022 Noosa Museum is looking for a Treasurer. If this sounds like you please contact Trish Kearton to discuss 07 5485 1080.

13.01.2022 An historic chair from the Cooroora Masonic Lodge, Pomona, has been recently discovered in another local collection. How it got there is unknown but the search to uncover its origins is interesting and a good reminder how important it is to document the source of all our museum objects. Queensland Museum Development Officer Josh Tarrant records the search in these two articles. (We would be interested to know where the second matching chair ended up and how this one came to... be in Yandina...) This post is also worth a look just to see the photos of the magnificent interior of the heritage-listed building in Station St, Pomona, which is now privately owned. Many other items from the former Cooroora Lodge reside in the Noosa Museum. You can read more about the building here.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooroora_Masonic_Temple https://qmmdo.com.au//chapter-1-a-mysterious-chair-begins/ https://qmmdo.com.au//chapter-2-mysteries-revealed-who-is/

12.01.2022 As we head into Christmas holiday season, we found this old advertising brochure (pre 1945) for Parkyn’s holiday houses at Noosa’s Munna Point in the Museum collection. Takes you back to how summer beach holidays used to - particularly this information : Each of our Cottages is fully equipped, with the exception of linen and cutlery, hurricane lamp, clothes pegs and tin opener Who remembers packing their hurricane lamps and tin openers for holidays?

12.01.2022 Heritage listed Halse Lodge at Noosa Heads has been put on the market by its current owners, the Anglican Church. Originally built by Walter Hay as Bayview, then expanded as Hillcrest and rejuvenated as Halse Lodge, this beautiful timber guest house has hosted visitors to Noosa Shire since 1882. It remains a significant part of Noosa’s heritage.... Noosa Museum helped provide some photos and background for this news story. Some more photos and information can be found here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halse_Lodge

12.01.2022 Some good books here which also tell parts of the Noosa story. The Gympie gold rush brought people North and into the Noosa region. These personal family stories help capture the struggle and challenge of those times. Some of these books are also available for sale at Noosa Museum.

09.01.2022 The launch of the Noosa Heritage Portal on Wednesday is a great new contribution to the history of Noosa Shire. Noosa Museum looks forward to contributing some of our unique Noosa Shire material which has been donated over 30-plus years of collecting.

08.01.2022 National Health Week 1959. This handy blotter supplied by the Local Council for school kids taught good hygiene as well as helping with their nib pens. Still highly applicable 61 years later - the hand washing part anyway .

06.01.2022 Cooroora Historical Society has become the ‘official keeper’ of a collection of educational World War 1 information panels prepared by Ian Whisker, former Cooroy Pomona RSL sub-branch President. The massive project, undertaken for the 2018 Armistice Day 100th anniversary celebrations, kept Ian busy for the best part of the year preparing the information for the November event. The result was a staggering 35 panels, 75,000 words and 500 photographs depicting the history of Wor...ld War 1 and our local soldiers. Some of you may have seen the interesting display in November 2018 when it was featured in the newly refurbished Cooroy Memorial Hall for 11 days in the lead-up to Armistice Day. Ian has researched the 68 names on the RSL Memorial Board which include the 20 listed on the WW1 monument in Cooroy. The soldiers were from areas around Cooroy, Pomona, Cooran, Tuchekoi and Tewantin. Many signed up for service at the Noosa Shire Council office in Pomona - now the home of the Noosa Museum. The panels were to be put on display again for this year’s Anzac Day - which, unfortunately, was a victim of the coronavirus shutdown. So now Ian’s panels with their wealth of information has been handed to the Cooroora Historical Society to be used for future displays and events. Any schools or community groups interested in accessing the panels for their own events are welcome to contact Trish Kearton at the Noosa Museum to make arrangements. Thanks Ian for your great work. A true labour of love and a resource for the local community.

05.01.2022 Does anyone remember the Minter family from Pomona? Today we were excited to find a Minter Family country music record in our collection which was donated by Elaine Minter who attended Pomona State School around 1948-early in 1950s. Her dad Sid was a slaughter man and the family also lived in Eumundi and Kulangoor. The album features seven of the ten Minter children and is dedicated to their mum Marrain. The family were quite well known on the Australian country music scene - but google them today and nothing! Would love to hear if anyone remembers them and their music.

04.01.2022 Do you have an unused vacuum cleaner (in working order) you could donate to Noosa Museum? We need an old one to help keep our downstairs displays clean (machinery displays, bush kitchen etc).

03.01.2022 This 2013 news clip in the Cherry Venture appeared on another site today so thought I’d share. Who else recalls visiting the Cherry Venture on Teerwah? Noosa Museum has a number of relics from the wreck in our displays.

03.01.2022 The Noosa Sound development officially opened in December 1973. Here is a copy of the original sales brochure from our collection. You can’t buy sunshine, but you can buy a place to enjoy more of it - Noosa Sound. Gotta love that 1970s marketing.

02.01.2022 Noosa Museum has a new sparkle thanks to our hardworking volunteers who upgraded the front garden, put in new plants, added a new wagon wheel feature and a new museum sign and flags. Check out their work! Better still come and pay us a visit.

02.01.2022 Do you know this group? We are hoping someone may recognise the uniforms. On the back is written what we think reads G QldWorks Dept - Band. Possibly a government organisation band?

01.01.2022 Does anyone know about local bore markers? Landsborough Museum is looking for information.
