04.01.2022 COAST WAVE MURAL TO BE PRESERVED The infamous surf mural that's sat next to the Sunshine Motorway for almost 20 years will be preserved by Sunshine Coast Coun...cil. Today the final pieces of the old shed are being removed for safety reasons but in the coming weeks the mural of Mudjimba Island will be carefully propped up with metal framing set in a concrete footing. Artist Owen Cavanagh was surprised and honoured by the efforts council has made to save his mural. He said the story of the mural began with a carton of beer and a goal to share his art with his community. A friend suggested that the shed would be a great spot for a mural, so I met with the owner at the time and before I knew it, I’d finished the mural and paid for the privilege with a carton."
