25.01.2022 If you are ASTHMATIC beware HAYFEVER season The sun is shining, the grass and flowers are bloomingto the eye, it looks beautiful outside but for around 80% of people with asthma it could be a time where their allergic rhinitis flares-up and makes their asthma harder to control. Hayfever season can spell trouble for asthma sufferers and the Pharmacists at NFP would like to remind all of our asthma suffering patients to be very disciplined in their preventer use and if it's be...en a while since you have had your Inhaler Technique checked, come in and ask any of our always available Pharmacists to review your technique. Over 90% of inhaler users DO NOT maximise their inhaled dose, usually due to poor or forgotten technique. Don't let this be YOU. If your allergic rhinitis causes your asthma to flare-up, be prepared and carry your reliever with you at all times. Ensure your Asthma Action Plan is up to date and follow the steps as indicated. AND take hayfever medication daily to try to prevent the flare-ups. Prevention is ALWAYS better than cure! Remember, your Pharmacists at NFP are always available to help you manage your asthma and your hay fever.

25.01.2022 World Pharmacist Day 2020 It is World Pharmacists Day today and pharmacists around the country have expressed pride, passion and excitement for their work, the importance of which has been highlighted during a difficult year blighted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The theme of this years Day is ... transforming global health. The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) encourages pharmacists to use the day to organise activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the world. There could be no better year to do that than this year when Pharmacists all around the world have stayed at their stations to make sure that their vulnerable and worried patients have had uninterrupted access to their essential medicines through their always open local Pharmacy or via delivery by their Pharmacy staff. And your ever available Pharmacists at NFP have worked hard and tirelessly throughout these uncertain times to keep our patients healthy and safe in our little corner of Noranda. Very rarely do Pharmacists around the world blow their trumpet but this year, we really believe we deserve to. If you get a minute, come in and pat us on the back. #WorldPharmacistsDay #onthefrontline #MedicineExpert

24.01.2022 After the presents from Christmas have been unwrapped and the festivities of the New Year have died down, life returns to normal. But normal for some is not necessarily the normal we all enjoy. For some, normal is chronic pain. Pain that is with them day and night.... Pain that affects everything they do and affects the way they function - or don't. We too, the Pharmacists at NFP, had a great Christmas and New Year but we too, are back to work and that means back to caring for all of our valued patients and especially, caring for and trying to help our patients who live with chronic pain. We continue to go to Professional Development lectures, continue to read the latest articles from journals across the world and we continue to consult with Pain specialists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists and GPs and their Nurse Practitioners to keep our skills and knowledge up to date so we can continue to offer you the best pain care we can. Come in and talk to any of our Pharmacists at any time. No appointment needed. No judgements made - just a knowledgeable, listening ear offered to help as best we can.

24.01.2022 Wednesday 17th June is Red Apple Day at Noranda Feelgood Pharmacy. We will have a FREE red apple for the first 20 customers. The aim of Red Apple Day is to raise awareness and screening rates for bowel cancer. ... "Australia has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world; 1 in 13 Australians will develop the disease in their lifetime. Any of the below symptoms could be indicative of colon or rectal cancer and should be investigated by your GP if they persist for more than two weeks. - Blood in your poo or rectal bleeding - A recent, persistent change in bowel habit (e.g. diarrhoea, constipation or the feeling or incomplete emptying) - A change in the shape or appearance of your poo (e.g. narrower poos or mucus in poo) - Abdominal pain or swelling - Pain or a lump in the anus or rectum - Unexplained anaemia causing tiredness, weakness or weight loss During the early stages of bowel cancer, people may have no symptoms, which is why screening is so important."

23.01.2022 National Pain Week 2020 This month we are talking about pain. Currently, 3.24 million Australians are living with chronic pain every day. Acute pain can transition into chronic pain if it is untreated or poorly treated. The longer acute pain remains untreated, the greater the risk of the body becoming sensitised to pain, and the pain becoming chronic. ... Timely and effective treatment of acute pain is essential to prevent transition to chronic pain. To find out how we can help, come in and speak to one of our pharmacists.

23.01.2022 I woke up this morning hoping that it would all be an April fool's joke but unfortunately it is REAL. We can assure all of our valued customers and vulnerable patients that we are really taking every possible precaution to keep our Pharmacy a safe and familiar haven for you when you come in to get your essential medicines. We are ... * constantly cleaning surfaces, * sanitising our hands, * checking our temperatures and * doing our best to explain and ensure adequate social distancing to keep you really safe. In return, we ask you to really look after our health, the way we have always looked after your health, by * not coming in if you are unwell - please ring us and we will assist you over the phone, * by standing back from counters until it is your turn, * by not congregating in the Pharmacy but by coming back to pick up your scripts after your shopping, * by paying by card rather than by cash We are all in this together and we can all make a REAL difference and really flatten the infection curve if we all really follow sensible social distancing and hand hygiene requirements.

21.01.2022 FAST FLU FACTS Whilst Covid-19 might be behind us, the yearly Flu season is almost upon us. And whilst we have all been justifiably concerned about Covid-19 infection rates, hospital admissions and deaths, the yearly Flu season statistics tell us that the Flu is to be more universally feared - and prevented.... Some Fast Flu Facts * The flu is more severe than a cold - flu symptoms may last for up to two weeks * In an average year, flu causes 18,000 hospitalisations (3224 in WA in 2019) 300,000 GP consultations (22,000 confirmed cases in WA in 2019, of which 3343 were children aged between 5-9 years) 3,500 deaths (80 in WA in 2019, of which 5 were children aged 10 and under) * Some people are vulnerable to flu complications - such as people with some chronic illnesses, certain respiratory conditions, the elderly and those with compromised immunity * The single most effective measure to minimise the risk of catching the flu - is annual vaccination * Flu is responsible for 10% - of all sick days off work * Last year - Australia had it's worst flu season since 2009 * Flu is estimated to cost >$1B - to the Australian economy each year * Over 2 million Australians - received their flu vaccination from a Community Pharmacy in 2019. The conclusion to be drawn from these Fast Flu Facts is to have your Flu Vaccination wherever you can find a Pharmacy that still has Vaccines. We have Vaccines for those that are over 65 years of age but unfortunately we have run out of Vaccines for those younger than that. Don't delay - vaccinate TODAY.

21.01.2022 Goodbye to 2020 It has been the most unusual year for all of us. Most of us would be happy to have made it to the end of 2020 well and happy. In the Pharmacy, we have tried our best to make this happen for all of our valued customers and patients.... We trust we have been mostly successful. It has been a year of many changes and our Pharmacy has been no exception. We have had to say goodbye to Shani, Eric, Lena (on Maternity Leave), Tracey and Dana who have gone on to other opportunities and challenges. But with every sad goodbye, there is a welcome hello and this year has seen Moh, Michelle D, Michelle G, Heer, Bec and Grace join us in our pursuit of optimizing health outcomes for our customers and patients. On a personal note, we have seen our daughter Amy happily marry a fine young man, Marc (yes, same as my name) and we have relocated our South Perth Pharmacy across to the other side of Angelo Street. It has been a busy and an emotional year for us. As we look to 2021, like many West Australians, we hope that our relatively undisturbed way of life remains so and that the prospect of effective and safe vaccination against Covid-19, brings a certainty and a reunion to families whose loved ones are elsewhere. We wish all of our loyal, long standing customers and patients all the best for the year ahead. May 2021 bring us all, good health, heaps of happiness, earned success and fulfillment, peace for all and joy to the world. Sandra and Marc and all at NFP

19.01.2022 WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY is this Sunday, May 31st It is also a day where smokers are encouraged to start their quit journey or not smoke for 24 hours. With the spectre of Covid-19 hanging over us, especially as we enter Winter and the Flu season, this year more than any other is the year to QUIT.... Smokers and tobacco users are likely to be more vulnerable to COVID-19. Smokers may already have lung damage, reduced lung capacity or lung disease, which greatly increases the risk of serious illness. Further, the act of smoking means their fingers are in contact with their lips. This increases the possibility of transmitting the virus from their hand to their mouth. Many ex-smokers successfully quit without any support. For others, getting the right support can go a long way to ensure they quit smoking for good. If you are one of those smokers that need support, our Pharmacists at NFP are here to help you with non-judgemental, factual, practical support. Come in any time, any day. We are here to help.

16.01.2022 REMINDER REMINDER REMINDER On this one day of the year when even those who never do, do have a GAMBLE, it is opportunistic to remind us all of why we, in WA, have the freedom to do pretty much anything and to remind us to not gamble away that freedom.... Whilst the news is full of Covid numbers and deaths in USA and Europe and whilst people in Melbourne appear on TV wearing masks and numbers at pubs and funerals are capped in Sydney, and whilst there will be NO-ONE at the racetrack in Melbourne, here in Perth, crowds will gather at Ascot, in their thousands to watch the Race that Stops the Nation. The WA Premier has signalled the opening of the WA Hard Border from Saturday November 14th and IF we want to retain our social freedoms then we must REMEMBER our Covid Protections that have earned us those freedoms. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Wash your hands with soap thoroughly for 20 seconds Cover your coughs with your elbow Stay 1.5m apart whenever and wherever you can Focus on these simple basics made us the safest place on the planet. Complacency will shatter this and leave us liable to lockdowns. It is upon ALL OF US to protect all of us.

15.01.2022 We've got Christmas all wrapped up for you. The staff at NFP have done a tremendous job making sure we have something for everyone. And with only 9 days left ... "before the big fella comes sliding down your chimney", you'd better hurry up and come into NFP before the presents are all gone. See you soon.

15.01.2022 National Pain Week 2020 Throughout the last week of July each year, National Pain Week is organised by Chronic Pain Australia to give a voice to those Australians living in chronic pain. With this years theme being 'Faces Of Pain' - a series of videos were created by Australians to help to breakdown stigma and bring awareness to chronic pain and the impacts it can have on day-to-day living. This year's annual National Pain Survey conducted by Chronic Pain Australia showed th...at 12.16% of Males and 86.77% of Females are living in chronic pain. The results indicate that on a scale from 1-10, on average 5/10 people feel their pain is managed well by their GP, and 4/10 by their Pharmacist. At Noranda Feelgood Pharmacy we believe these numbers are too low. If you are, or know someone who is experiencing chronic pain, come in and speak to one of our caring Pharmacists to discuss your individual needs. Visit the link below to read more about chronic pain and National Pain Week 2020. https://www.nationalpainweek.org.au/

15.01.2022 MENTAL HEALTH WEEK This week, from the 10th to the 17th October has been designated Mental Health Week in WA. But the reality is that every week of every month of every year is a week to think about the rising toll on Mental Health that West Australians are experiencing due to the social and financial pressures on everyday life faced by us all.... And exacerbated this year by the social isolation, the physical distancing and the uncertainty caused by Covid-19. This year’s Mental Health Week theme is Strengthening Our Community Live, Learn, Work, Play with the aim of increasing mental wellbeing in WA communities. We are all in this mostly silent epidemic together and we must all try to play our part in helping our fellow community members. In 2020, we will continue to aim to boost mental wellbeing in WA communities by: Encouraging each of us to support and look out for one another Promoting mental health literacy and self-care tips Raising awareness of mental health issues and reducing stigma associated with seeking support. Here at NFP, several of our Pharmacists have taken the first step by enrolling in a Mental Health First Aid Certificate course which has enabled us to have a greater understanding of the role that everyone can play in listening non-judgementally and helping to direct at risk patients towards where the greatest help is to be found. We are here, 7 days a week, when you need us most. Please use us or if you prefer, use one of these safe phone resources Lifeline - 13 11 14 Kids Help Line (Ages 5-25) - 1800 551 800 Mental Health Emergency Response - 1300 555 788 Rural Link - Rural and remote areas - 1800 552 002

14.01.2022 As we become more aware, Australia Day is increasingly meaning different things to different people. That’s okay. We are lucky enough to live in a free and democratic country. Everyone is entitled to their own views and the right to say them - whilst observing courtesy and respect for others and their right to their views.... This year, possibly more than any other, we have a lot to be thankful for being Australian. Let’s repay that thanks by being more tolerant, more understanding and more open to other points of view. Whatever today has meant to you and your family, for us, it has been a chance to spend time with ours, and to reflect on the great country we live in and the wonderful life it has given us. Happy Australia Day Sandra and Marc #HappyAustraliaDay

11.01.2022 With all the focus on the risk of Covid-19 to older patients it is easy to forget that life goes on. Older patients are at risk of many other things and our focus in the Pharmacy in April is always "April Falls". "Each year, nearly one quarter of Australian's over the age of 60 will experience a fall, some resulting in serious injury and not being able to return to independent living." - Stay On Your Feet WA... With everyone spending so much more time at home and in isolation, there are things you can do to help reduce your risk of falls. 1. MOVE your body. Go for walks or do simple exercises to improve your balance and strengthen your legs (click the link below to find out more). 2. IMPROVE your health. Some medicines can cause dizziness or low blood pressure which can put you at risk of a fall. Talk to a Noranda FeelGood Pharmacist about how and when to take your medicines to minimize side effects like dizziness. 3. REMOVE slip and trip hazards from your home and backyard. Wear shoes with a good grip and remove rugs, mats, and objects from the floor. We have several information leaflets in the Pharmacy to help you with this but if you are social isolating then you can go to the Stay on your Feet website https://www.stayonyourfeet.com.au

11.01.2022 Winners are Grinners. We congratulate Sharon on being the lucky winner of our Christmas Hamper draw and thank her and all our wonderful customers for their custom and loyalty throughout the year. And whilst there can be only one winner of the hamper, we hope that all our valued patients and customers feel like winners with all the expert care and advice they have received from our knowledgeable and friendly staff throughout 2019. We can assure you of more, if not even better service in 2020.

10.01.2022 With so many people saying so many things, we, the Pharmacists at NFP thought that maybe no-one would need to hear from us. There is plenty of factual information to be found on www.health.gov.au - Coronavirus FAQ www.health.wa.gov.au - for WA specific information... or by phoning the Coronavirus Information Line on 1800 020 080 We want to assure our valued patients and customers that we are doing our very best to make sure we have adequate supplies of all your essential medicines. We want to reassure our valued patients and customers that sensible hygiene routines and social distancing will minimise the risk of contracting Covid-19. We want our valued patients and customers to understand that although some of you may be at greater risk due to your age or existing health conditions, medical expertise in Australia is unparalleled and will not be in short supply for those most at risk. We want our valued patients and customers to comprehend that for most of us, Pharmacists, staff and most of you, if we contract Covid-19, the effects on our health will be minor and more inconveniencing than dangerous. We are more likely to experience a "bad flu" than a life endangering illness. Rest, balanced meals, mild exercise, good sleep and supportive medication should see us all improve and back to our usual routine within 7-14 days. We would like our whole community to think of others and be considerate and understanding of the risks of spreading Covid-19 and self isolate if you experience sore throat, fever, cough and shortness of breath. But we also want our community to understand that this is different to experiencing a runny nose or sinus congestion which is more likely to be a common cold. Clogging vital health resources with minor colds slows down the ability of health authorities to deal with more urgent and likely cases of Covid-19. We would like to think that we are all in this together. Barely 2 months ago, Australians astounded the world by the way they pulled together to help people, towns and wildlife recover from the devastating bushfires that raged across our country. We hope we can all find that same compassion in our hearts again to help and support those around us that are more vulnerable due to their age or their health.

08.01.2022 Managing YOUR pain With all the attention on Covid-19, management of other conditions has largely been put to the side. One condition that can never be put to the side though is PAIN. For those unfortunate enough to have to deal with daily pain, pain is always there and always impacting upon functionality.... Some of our patients will be managing their pain with Opioids. For those patients, the prescribing rules and quantities and number of repeats has been changed by the Federal Health authorities as of 1st June 2020. These changes are designed to protect patients, not to inconvenience them. You will still be able to get the same Opioid medications that you are currently on but the changes might prompt your doctor to review your pain strategies and look for other courses of management. If you are on Opioid medications or you know of a family member or close friend that is, please watch the NPS video below or forward it on to them as it explains non-judgementally the use and precautions of Opioid medications. If you have any questions or concerns or just simply want to talk about your pain medication regimen, please come in and ask any of the Painwise trained Pharmacists at NFP.

08.01.2022 Vitamin D and the Sun Here, in sunny Perth, at the height of summer it is hard to believe that anyone could be deficient in vital Vitamin D. Vitamin D is needed throughout our lives to assist in calcium absorption and aid in bone mineralisation.... In addition to bone health, vitamin D helps support muscle function by supporting muscle tone and strength. Research also suggests that vitamin D may help maintain a healthy immune system. We get our major source of Vitamin D from being exposed to sunlight but with smart Australians now heeding the warnings about the dangers of sun exposure and now covering up and limiting exposure more and more, there is the possibility that some of us, pregnant mums, children on screens, housebound elderly or just sun shy adults, may be D deficient. If that is the case, supplementation with Ostelin, the leading Vitamin D in Australia, is safe, affordable and could be good for your health. Pop in and discuss your Vitamin D status with any of our Pharmacists today.

06.01.2022 November is Lung Awareness Month One in nine Australians have asthma. That's around 2.7 million of us, and on top of that, over HALF of us are using our inhalers incorrectly.... The best way you can manage your asthma is to take medicine to prevent symptoms, avoid triggers and prepare to treat attacks. However, using inhalers incorrectly means the medicine doesn't reach your lungs, which can lead to poor asthma control and an increased rate of flare ups. At NFP, we can make sure your asthma is well controlled, provide action plans, check your inhaler techniques and teach you how to use a spacer if needed. Come in and see us anytime to discuss ways we can better help you manage your asthma.

05.01.2022 Is there anyone more important in our lives than our Mums? They have looked after us from the day we were born and will continue to look after us for ever. And in these uncertain times, they are probably caring for and worrying about us even more.... We may not be able to kiss and hug our Mums on Mothers Day this year due to Covid-19 but we can show how much we appreciate all that they have and will do for us by picking a gift that shows how much we love and value them. Here at NFP, we have a wide range of gifts that can show your Mum how much you care. Come in store and let our lovely staff help you choose the perfect present for your wonderful Mum. Mothers Day - Sunday 10th May

05.01.2022 From all of us and our families at NFP to you, our valued patients and customers and your families, we wish you a very Merry Christmas filled with lots of festive fun, heaps of presents ... but most importantly, joyous times spent with family and friends. See more

01.01.2022 Those Easterlies continue to blow and with it - the pollens keep blowing in and landing on our eyes and in our noses. Ahhh - hay fever with not a bale of hay to be seen! Some of us are lucky - we only have to make it through to the hotter, drier months of December or January. Others have to self medicate all year through.... But other than on the very worst high pollen count days, hay fever is mostly easy to manage with a Steroid Nasal Spray (plus Saline nasal wash) AND/OR an Anti-Histamine tablet AND some Anti-Histamine anti-itch Eye Drops. The options and the brands can be confusing so although you might be used to taking these every year, the best advice is ALWAYS your Pharmacist's advice. Come in and ask us to help you enjoy your Spring/Summer with a smile rather than with a sneeze.
