25.01.2022 It's #internationaldogday! A great chance to feel some gratitude for everything our pups do for us, including adapting to our crazy routines, patiently waiting for us to find some time to share with them, coming up with their best ideas to make us feel less upset, lonely, stressed out or angry. I feel blessed for all the gentle souls I get to know through my job and especially lucky to share my life with our two little monsters

25.01.2022 As every dog has his own personality, strengths and weaknesses, tutorials on how to teach your dog a new command can get you quite frustrating. Remember, dogs learn in a number of ways, and their starting point will vary according to their experience so far, their biological skill set that comes through their mother and family, the way they feel at the moment of learning, their arousal level etc. That's why you should adjust your training session to your specific dog, through... your very intimate and own relationship. Imagine to teach these two the "Gentle" command following the same steps considering where they're starting at! The Labrador is full on, no matter what you are offering, the Maremma instead is cautious and therefore perfectly gentle without being taught absolutely anything.

25.01.2022 This year for my birthday I thought to help the guys at West Coast Maremma Rescue with the new pups coming in. If you feel like donating even just a bit, please follow the quick link here :)

25.01.2022 Too much of a good girl This brilliant rescue girl is probably around 5 and was adopted not long ago by her new family. She is well behaved, knows all the basics of obedience and walks nicely on the leash. No digging nor barking, she's absolutely fine lying on the floor for eight hours straight. Where lies the issue you may ask. Well Dasu lived in a kennel long enough to sort of give up. Her calm behaviour is actually resignation - the way she found of pulling trough and a wa...rning sign she needs all the help her adoptive family is able to give her to learn how to enjoy life again. Toys and fun should play a huge role in her daily routine in order to experience some genuine good time with her new friends. Supervised freedom on the other hand will fill the massive gap in her life experiences and trigger a new set of interests to bring her back to the beautiful and alert hunting dog she was born to be. There will be plenty of time for training once she knows what she's capable of! Best wishes smart girl.

23.01.2022 No better way to help us understand why there is no need for us to "control" our pups.

23.01.2022 It took me years to find the courage to watch movies on dog's lives and adventures as I wasn't able to stand all the crying that came with their death at the end of the movie. I literally skipped all the "Red Dog", "Balto" etc to avoid thinking of my own dogs dying one day or another, actually missing out on some pretty great movies too So when I stumbled upon this video by Rodney Habib at TEDx I knew I couldn't miss this one! Habib shares some information that may help lengthening your dog's life span quite a bit. It goes from stress relief through diets all the way to environmental factors and I am sure it would help many owners who are simply unaware of what bad habits may cause to their furry friends. Enjoy!

21.01.2022 17 Maremmas, a Lab and a Cocker Spaniel. Each one with his own personality: many confident pups, a few unsure adolescents, a couple of curious puppies, all enjoying a few hours off leash together with chickens, llamas, cows, Chihuahuas and a lot of people. . This is what a good environment is about: the right amount of space, the freedom to move away from any interaction, the confidence of the owners.

17.01.2022 Puppies should be given the chances to socialise prior to the last vaccination shot. The reasons are extensively explained here

15.01.2022 The best time to do nose work is in damp condition Why? Rain helps sticking all the smells to the ground as the scent particles absorb the moisture and expand, which makes them easier to follow and much more intense

14.01.2022 Lockdown, day 1 [There starts the baking!]

07.01.2022 Our relationship with dogs changed throughout history and shaped our development, to the point where it is believed humans wouldn't be who they are today if they didn't share their path with them.

05.01.2022 Calming activies are one of the best chances we have to bond with our pup and give her the opportunity to relax. . Each breed and personality will show us what it's needed to be able to calmly enjoy their surroundings: a terrier may need to dig into some dirt, a collie might run a mile or two on a desert beach, while a sheepdog may find his natural habitat on a sloping grass field with an extensive view . The ability to fully enjoy the environment instead of only being aroused by it is of vital importance. Their mind slows down, their muscles soften and they are more likely to be able to put you in the frame as well, just by sharing half an hour of bonding chill.

04.01.2022 Here's what happens every time mom goes seeing another dog without the crew Swen even used her Jacobson's organ right before I was able to get my phone - she held her breath, opened her mouth to detect any pheromones and emitted the peculiar sound which always goes with the "activation" of this powerful organ. I'd love to be able to smell what our friends do once in my life

01.01.2022 The same pile of dirt, two very different attitudes: the guardian enjoys the elevated view and prides himself of being able to keep an eye on his whole territory - the retriever takes the chance to smell throughout the sand and the many insects and animals' scents who call the dirt pile home. .
