23.01.2022 This is Hannah, our apprentice, say hello! Hannah, in her short time at the bench, has already been a design competition finalist and has also achieved a bronze medal for the Worldskills jewellery manufacture competition. Shes studied with DeBeers and also GIA. Yes, that is THE GIA! The world standard in diamond reports. She loves learning all the things and has such a fantastic eye for precision. She also loves being the only child of this family business.

23.01.2022 Zaras comfortable in front of the camera now. This is a better representation of our fur child. Shes a full on, non-stop, go-go-go, kind of girl, and we love her very much for it.

23.01.2022 Revisiting some of my favorite pieces. I really enjoyed getting lost in the process of hand fabricating these earrings and making sure the mirror image from one to the other was spot on from every angle. 22.01.2022 This is beautiful, juicy Oregon Sunstone, one of my favorite gemstones! The colours this gemstone can be found in is one of the reasons I love it so much, and quite often they have a combo of colours. Red, peachy orange, yellow as well as pale through to strong greens each one is so unique. Quite delicate gemstones suited to being worn as pendants.

21.01.2022 A gorgeous Australian Sapphire from the rural town of Sapphire in Queensland. Its a deep greenish blue colour, custom cut into this unique "Trilled" design, which brings bright light into the gemstone. It was discovered as a 3ct rough and after precision cutting to bring out its best colour it now sits at 0.83ct. Highlighted either side with round brilliant cut Argyle diamonds, and set into 18k yellow gold, this ring was handmade with love right here in our Mount Lawley workshop, by Sam.

19.01.2022 Look at the intensity in that Sapphire! Such a beautiful ring, all hand made from scratch in Fairtrade white gold, and finished off with hand engraving on the knife edge band. This engraving is all done under a microscope with tiny little specially shaped chisels called 'Gravers'.

19.01.2022 To tie in with the ring we introduced to you yesterday, this is the soft champagne Argyle diamond wedding ring to match. The colour ties in so perfectly with that Emerlad cut champagne. Also hand made using our environmentally friendly Clean gold from WA. Usually the typical ring to match would be made with white diamonds, but why be typical when you can have such a unique and soft colour like these Argyle diamonds?!

19.01.2022 Theres something about baguette cut diamonds that we absolutely adore. It could be the nice straight edges they give you for creating super clean lines in the jewellery, it could also be those mirror like facets, that create a very geometric Art Deco feel.

18.01.2022 Oregon Sunstone! Yes, another one. I told you, its one of my favorite gemstones! Sometimes youll find a Sunstone (like this one) that has copper inclusions which reflect the light and create an amazing glittery effect, called Aventurescence. Sometimes inclusions in a gemstone is not so great, sometimes the inclusions in a gemstone is everything.

18.01.2022 Argyle pink diamond and South Sea pearl necklace. It was quite a journey watching this piece come together. First the pink diamond, then working through all the options with our client to discover it worked perfectly with this particular pearl. I drew up eight different concepts, the last two being "wild card" ideas that I drew more for fun. Here is the final piece, one of those "wild card" ideas! If I think it will work, I will draw it. Its up to you to choose what you love the most. Sam x

17.01.2022 What a beautiful Aquamarine, with the icy blue colour turning to turquoise green when viewed from different sides. I did find myself distracted just turning it over in my hands while I was working with it. On this angle the photo shows the green colour, and how perfectly it contrasts with rose gold and blush pink diamonds. Quite a combination. A jewel fit for a Queen.

16.01.2022 Stunning Amethyst from the Four Peaks mine in Arizona. The material from this mine is all hand collected, by the passionate miners trekking, on foot, 15 kilometers up a mountain path, to the timber braced tunnels, where they use hand tools and picks to carefully collect the Amethyst crystals. All current material from this mine is sold to China, so its impossible to source for custom cutting now, but this piece was from an historical collection, so we had to set it into something spectacular!

15.01.2022 Stunning, stunning, stunning! Pink pear, round yellow and an Asscher white diamond surrounded by colour co-ordinated halos. All up the length of this pendant was nearly 30mm long and quite a statement piece. I say its a statement piece, but you know me, I'd totally agree with you and encourage you to wear a pendant like this everyday of the week. Sam x

15.01.2022 We worked with our client to design his custom signet ring to the most perfect proportions, so this ring suits his hand absolutely spot on. Highly polished with a satin finish top and flush set with an absolutely stunning blue diamond. Would you consider a signet ring if it was custom designed to suit you perfectly?

15.01.2022 Argyle pink diamond circle pendant. This client came to us with a particular style in mind for her custom pendant, and we just played around with subtle ideas to make it her own. Millgrain edge around the pink diamond, rose gold claws set north- south, and the chain slides through the pendant rather than attaching straight to it. Its all about the details.

14.01.2022 On the subject of Australian sapphires, we've got a 1.4ct custom cut Parti Green sapphire in a stunning Octagonal shape. With this one we've been brave and set the points of the sapphire into single tapered talon claws, which is always a bit risky in the setting process, but it really enhances the octagonal shape of the sapphire. Handmade 18k Fairtrade rose gold, highlighted with single Argyle Diamonds on the sides and delicate leafy accents to tie everything together perfectly.

14.01.2022 I'm really enjoying taking these photos and sharing with you a closer focus on the luxury of fine details. This is my world, this is what I see, this is what makes all the difference, and this is why it takes time to create bespoke pieces. look at all the perfect little geometric faces on these quartz crystals, they are all less than 1mm in size, and still the lapidarist has taken the time to match up every corner and every edge. We took months sourcing and rejecting similar... gemstones to find these. Then almost as long again to handmake the earrings themselves! Of course its about the balance of design, the beauty in the flow of the lines and controlling the direction of focus, but Im definitely all about every part coming together to make a whole. Does this make me a control freak? A perfectionist? Most likely. To me every piece really is like an orchestra, you can listen to each individual instrument, your attention can flow from one section to another, but you can also be blown away by the piece as a whole. 14.01.2022 How to wear the Quartz crystal earrings. Being clear Quartz and white diamonds these earrings work perfectly with most outfits, but particularly well with white to create a bright dazzling look. They would also look great when worn as a contrast to a dark black (pictured), navy or deep burgundy. Maybe also some vintage lace could look stunning too.... What do you think?

13.01.2022 Do you think this one is pretty? Apricot Sapphire, Argyle Diamond and Clean Gold. A stunning ring, that is quite neutral in colour, so you can defineitly wear this one everyday without feeling too extravagant.

11.01.2022 See how we chose a delicate Old Cut Diamond for the centre, and Single Cut diamonds for the accent stones? This design just wouldn't look right with modern cut diamonds. The clean millgrain edges were so worn out in the original vintage ring but here they define the whole design. Over all this is a lovely dainty piece, check out our earlier post showing this ring being modelled, to get a true understanding its character.

07.01.2022 Another stunner. This Pink Rosé Argyle diamond was pretty intense in colour, and even more so now that we have added that delicate rim of millgrain rose gold around it. A perfect way to introduce some rose gold to your jewellery collection, not to mention the fact that you now have your own little piece of WA history.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to this beautiful couple who became officially engaged earlier this month! Danielle was involved in designing her amazing engagement ring right from the start, but we were all really torn between choosing a pink diamond centre or this stunning Sapphire as the centre stone for the design. In the end we combined both ideas into the one classic design with a difference, which Danielle only saw finished the day Salvatore proposed. Happy days.

Im Sam Nordhoff and Im definitely the creative brains behind this operation, (leaving the business stuff up to Clint) Having achieved two bronze medals for manufacture, twice a finalist for design awards and winner of the Australasian Jewellery Design Awards Ive designed and made some beautiful pieces of art. When you come in and tell me that the ideas you have for your new piece of jewellery might sound strange, but...... Ill take this info and think about it for days, building images in my minds eye. Once the drawings are on paper and you tell me thats exactly what you wanted but so far above and beyond what you could ever have imagined or expected. That makes my heart sing. Thats why I love what I do.

03.01.2022 This vintage style ring was carefully handmade from photos of an old and well loved Grandma's ring. Not an exact copy because, well, the original is so well worn its hard to imagine how it started out with nice crisp millgrain edges, beautifully straight and pointed claws, and a strong band. This is a modern take on a very special vintage piece, keeping in mind all the features our client loves about Grandma's ring. And by the way Grandma's ring is still lovingly enjoyed daily by the original owner.

03.01.2022 Once In A Blue Moon. I used to desperately work on ideas for competition pieces, constantly throwing ideas around and waking at night to draw out crazy impossibilities. These days I prefer to use those crazy impossible ideas as inspiration for client pieces. The designs are less crazy and more practical, but this way I get to see my pieces worn and enjoyed daily by people who love them. This is what brings me joy. Seeing my clients fall in love with their own personal one-off jewels.

02.01.2022 So many reasons to adore this engagement ring! An Argyle diamond in a soft neutral champagne colour, set on trend in East-West style. Emerald cut Argyle diamonds are particularly hard to find, especially being so precision cut and perfectly reflective as this one is. The long clean facets act like mirrors, either reflecting every single inclusion or every single ray of light! So only the cleanest diamonds with very few inclusions look good as Emerald cuts. We hand-made this piece in our Mount Lawley studio, all from scratch using our environmentally friendly Clean Gold from WA. Paired with white Argyle diamonds down the band, this is a ring with a whole lot of heart. A ring you can feel good wearing.

02.01.2022 Happy Newly-weds! Gosh Covid threw a spanner in the works for me designing this set of rings, but I think we managed to keep it as easy as possible for our couple and still offer the level of service we are known for. Each of these rings presented me with their own little challenge. To inlay the gold into Zirconium was one, and to set the massive 13ct Aquamarine was another. Luckily I thrive on challenges! Designing and making these rings was an absolute pleasure. Thanks to Felix and Nik for trusting my design process and thanks to Brett Earl Photography for the amazing shot!
