25.01.2022 Charlie Carters Hut August 2020

25.01.2022 The NSW NPWS and Saving Our Species Team kicked off their spring Mountain Pygmy Possum monitoring program this week. Nothing like field work to bring on the spr...ing snow. Good news coming back in from the field with many animals surviving winter hibernation and in good health despite the January bushfires impacting heavily around their habitat areas in northern Kosciuszko National Park. Great work from these teams that have been monitoring and providing supplementary food and water since the fires to improve the chances of Mountain Pygmy Possums survival in the wild. 24.01.2022 This burrow is incredible! These clips were taken throughout October of the one burrow in southern Tasmania. "Activity was very high first few days of the mo...nth, then slowed right down. The burrow seemed to get flooded overnight on the 10th October," says Taswildlife.com. "A very muddy wombat can be seen! No harm done it seems, as mum and baby wombat came back for a visit around 20 October." : Taswildlife.com

23.01.2022 Heading down to Kosciuszko National Park next week to do some trackwork on Hannels Spur, assisting the regular team. Won't be needing the skis for this trip so giving them a wax and packing them away until next year. Keep your skis covered with a good layer of wax to protect the bases from oxidation and to keep them sliding nicely. It looks like this summer is going to be great for getting in the mountains. What trips do you have planned? Quite a few people are doing Hannels Spur to Kosciuszko, the biggest climb in Australia

23.01.2022 Taken on Saturday Morning, 12/9, out on the lovely 7.5 km trail. Skiing was great. This grooming trail being a combined effort of Luke and our new operator - D...an. On Saturday afternoon we gave Luke a send off, where many expressed their thanks for his efforts over approx 7 years of grooming our trails. PXC wishes him well for the future.

20.01.2022 These photos are of areas in northern Kosciuszko National Park, around Kiandra, burnt by wildfire in January/February 2020. This part of the park was severely burnt. These photos were taken 27/28 July 2020. No snow had really fallen and stayed on the ground at these lower elevations so far this winter and at higher elevations the snow cover was lean. Some decent frosts had formed on the plains and frost hollows on this burnt ground. Slowly, new shoots are starting to come out of the ground and along limbs of surviving, burnt trees. It wasnt until 22nd August that snow came to this area and stayed on the ground.

16.01.2022 Today is the last day of NAIDOC WEEK, 2020. Around this time of year First Nations People travelled and met up in what is now Kosciuszko National Park for ceremony and to feast on Bogong moths. This year's theme is ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE. ' Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.'... The NSW Nordic Ski Club recognizes that Kosciuszko and the surrounding landscape is Monero - Ngarigo Country. https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2020-theme

12.01.2022 After the fires in NSW last summer, members of the NSW Nordic Ski Club set about making nesting boxes. We held a number of construction days, with the boxes going to fire affected areas of the Blue Mountains and Kosciuszko National Park. The boxes we made were for Gang Gangs, microbats, feathertail gliders, pygmy possums, and a variety of other birds and possums. The boxes have been installed now, with the ones in Kosciuszko National Park being monitored as part of an ongoing... project to see how successful they are. There in a FB event on Sugar Gliders in urban areas next Tuesday, 22 September which you might like to listen in to. With climate change, habitat destruction and increasing numbers of feral animals, native wildlife is being pushed out, more and more. Lets help bring them back! https://m.facebook.com/events/655590945343141?acontext=%7B"source"%3A"3"%2C"action_history"%3A"null"%7D&aref=3&ref=m_notif¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic See more

05.01.2022 Great to see these locals out and about after the bushfires. Like many of us, the broad-toothed rats up on Tomneys Plain had a rough start to 2020! The bushfir...es tore through the habitat of these vulnerable, chubby-cheeked rats, leaving the fate of this population up in the air. Earlier this month, #SavingOurSpecies found evidence that these tubby little rats survived remade runways through native grasses and some fresh poo on the ground! 05.01.2022 Yay! for the Nordic trails & Nordic Shelter. Weve sponsored the 5K trail by way of a donation. The trails provide a safe area for new x-country skiers to find their kick-and-glide ski legs and hone their turns; plus big fun for others wanting to give very skinny skis a go. We encourage you to make a donation too - look for the pink pig at the front door of the Shelter if you visit the trails or use the facilities. Thanks to Geraldine and all the team.
