24.01.2022 One of the biggest mistakes people make with exercise is neglecting to correct areas of the body lacking mobility. Aggressive physical training cannot change fundamental mobility and stability problems at an effective rate without also introducing a degree of compensation and increased risk of injury. It is impossible to develop strength to your full potential if poor mobility of joints is present. This is why mobility restrictions are the first thing I look during an assessm...ent with a new client and is the main focus in the the initial stages of the program. However, not all people will need to improve mobility for some people may in fact have too much! These people are referred to as hypermobile and there problem is excessive mobility that compromises stability of the joints. In this case they require more stability and strength based exercises to correctly stabilize their joints. The only way to find out this vital information is to complete a thorough mobility assessment to identify areas of concern before you get into the more complex stability and movement assessments that are easily compromised by mobility dysfunctions. In this article I will show you how to complete a basic mobility assessment by yourself to help determine exactly what areas of the body you will need to improve your mobility. https://www.noregretspt.com.au//429-how-to-identify-mobili

23.01.2022 Many people are going crazy missing out on their gym training and feel like they are going to lose all their hard work if they don't find a way to maintain their strength and fitness. We have posted a stack of ideas of how to train with your own body-weight which is a great way to get started. But let's face it this can get a bit boring over time and this is where people look for some small and simple additions to their workout with fitness equipment. But what is the best to ...use? For if you wanted to get a dumbbell rack you are looking at thousands of dollars plus you need somewhere to store them and even rubber flooring which can be expensive. This is not really an ideal choice, so what should you get? In this video we show you our top 5 exercise equipment choices that cost very little, take up hardly any space, but are super effective at challenging your body in many ways to make your training more enjoyable. But more importantly give you great results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWc2uXIeyAk&t=190s

20.01.2022 On Tuesday's & Thursday's we normally run our Stronger For Longer older adults group class and I have really missed running this class this week. Strength training for as we age is invaluable!! This quick video looks at the BEST form of exercise as we age and in particular for Seniors.... Strength training is by far THE BEST exercise for ALL people to undertake but in particular people who are overweight and older adults. We have many people who come to us as they reach their mature years and they are full of fear. They may be on numerous medications for different conditions, struggling with aches and pains, or feel isolated because they no longer have the confidence to participate in social activities such as bowls, golf or even simple activities such as walking. And this causes a domino effect into other areas of their life they worry about what the future holds and even if they’ll be well enough to simply enjoy life, which is something our Stronger For Longer team do not need to worry about, they are all amazing and impress and motivate me every session that we train together. Hopefully we will all be back to training together soon. I hope you enjoy this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWVeZ97nbhE Click on the link below to read the full article on Strength Training for Older Adults: https://www.noregretspt.com.au//215-lift-for-life-and-stro

19.01.2022 This is a detailed video that discusses very important facts relating to health and fitness for WOMEN. Having worked with hundreds of women over the past 16 years as a trainer, I have seen the constant struggles many females face when it comes to getting in great physical shape. While it is difficult for all of us to achieve great physical fitness it is fair to say the female population has a much more difficult road to take. This video we explain why and what the key things to focus on are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbPTGQCfBY4

18.01.2022 Welcome to another episode of Cooking In Lockdown With Mel ( Series 4 ). Today we look at one of my favourite foods, the Avocado, I would eat them most days. Avocados are a very popular food, to the point that they dominate posts on social media in foodie photos, but avocados are not only great for our social media posts they are a delicious and satisfying food and are high in fibre, packed with minerals, vitamins, and nutrients that keep us healthy. ... They can even help with weight loss! Today's recipe was a bit of an experiment and I think still needs a little tweaking, eventhough they tasted delicous!! Ingredients: * 1 Avocado ( mashed ) * 50g Parmesan Cheese ( finely grated ) * Crushed Chilli ( to taste ) Method: 1. Line a baking tray & preheat oven to 180 degrees. 2. In a large mixing bowl combine all ingredients. 3. Place tbs amounts of the mixture onto the lined baking tray and cook til golden brown, approx 15-20 min. 4. Gently turn over to brown the other side. 5. Allow to cool and serve. I had these with some of the ricotta cheese that I baked the other day, hommus would go well with them or even cottage cheese. They are great well rounded afternoon tea snack, they are low carb, we are getting good quality fats from the avocado and by adding some cheese we are also getting some protein. One tip for you, if you are going to try to make these i would recommend that when you bake them you make them quite thin. 16.01.2022 As today is International Women's Day we thought it would be good to share some great information about exercise for females. We all know that there is some amazing benefits to exercise but strength training in particular for females is essential. Females need it much more than the men and not to look good in a mirror but for health purposes. As females have much less muscle mass to begin with they are more vulnerable to problems such as - Bone density, - Hormone regulati...on - Injury and postural dysfunction - Decreased metabolic rate Strength training combined with good movement and nutritional strategies can counter these problems and more. With all these amazing benefits created from lifting weights why are more women not participating? There are several reasons for this but one of the biggest factors is that many women feel quite intimidated to go to a gym and exercise. And it is not necessarily from men looking at them! Recently new research from Vic Health found that most Victorian women are turned off by exercise due to images of taut and toned #FITSPO influencers. Last year Vic Health launched a new campaign This Girl Can which focuses on empowering women to believe in themselves and feel comfortable getting active. Here is a great info-graphic that explains some of the benefits of strength training for women in great detail https://noregretspt.com.au//385-the-importance-of-strength

03.01.2022 Being in great physical shape is never easy and it is not smooth sailing as many people think. It takes hard work, consistency and discipline to achieve great results and be able to stay there for a long time. And even when you do all of these things, sometimes life throws you a curve ball and really messes things up. I should know as I cannot tell you how many serious injuries I have suffered in recent times that have completely derailed my strength, my fitness, my ambition...s and of course my health. To get myself back to good functioning capacity I needed to spend a lot of time with boring, tedious exercises and methods for the "fun stuff" I was used to was just not realistic. And it is at these times you can lose the plot, lose all motivation and feel your world caving in around you. I am lucky for I am around so many people with worse problems than me, and I get to work with them and help guide them through these problems and see just what it is possible if you stick to the plan. And it is in these people I get my motivation when things are getting tough. The article in the link below shares with you some of these great stories so you too can feel inspired. https://www.noregretspt.com.au//313-where-i-find-my-inspir
