25.01.2022 This is one of the first questions we ask people but we still understand it’s quite controversial. We all naturally compare ourselves to our peers as far as what we earn but it’s what we spend that makes a difference in our lifestyle. These habits can be good or bad and lead to stress or freedom. It’s always a lot harder to identify these nuances than it is to see someone’s pay grade.
24.01.2022 After a nail biting start to the year, and some VERY time critical cases, we are now back to full strength with JB returning from Mat leave this week. As we move into June we are taking stock of the year and looking to dig up potential tax savings for our clients and carefully consider what is still a very uncertain road ahead. We do expect to open for in person client appointments in the near future and this policy is under development right now. In the mean time, we are still lucky enough to have a dedicated team who are well experienced in working completely online and can handle any and all enquires you may have.
24.01.2022 Well to say things have been tense lately would not do it justice. With the vast majority of our clients on the front line in healthcare we thought we might answer some questions that might be on your mind but you dont have time to ask. We are certain (as we can be without giving personal advice) that any insurance policy that was put in place by us does not have a pandemic exclusion and will cover you. If you have trauma insurance, also known and critical illness or living... cover, a stay in ICU with 10 days on a respirator is an insured event. If you cant work for medical reason your Income Protection or Total and Permanent Disability cover would cover you the same as for any illness or accident. Superannuation and the assets held within are taking a hammering right now but we planned for this. Unless the world stops spinning tomorrow (it hasnt yet) it will regain its value as long as you are patient. History has taught us that panic selling is not the answer. Yes the govt is allowing access to super but if you access 10k now you are selling at very low value so use this as a last resort only or you are just robbing your future self. The team both on and offshore are all working at home and other than a hiccup with the phone (yes we still need phones on occasion) we are still running at full speed...probably even greater as demand for good advice is higher than its ever been and we want to ensure we give you our best during this trying time.
23.01.2022 So getting a claim paid for a client is a pretty good feeling. Knowing that they can now not worry about money and focus on getting healthy. Whats even better is when after an almost year long battle with a pretty nasty initial diagnosis they tell you they got the ALL CLEAR today. Thats a very good feeling indeed and a great way to end a week.
22.01.2022 Rates have dropped to basically zero! If you have cash savings it’s sometimes tempting to try and find returns better than nothing at all but you are wise to worry about market volatility. We build wealth portfolios for each and every client that suits their own unique situation and allows them to make gains with manageable risk.
21.01.2022 As a follow up from this weeks proposed changes I thought Id write a blog. The fine print MATTERS!
19.01.2022 Its ok to feel a little worried or emotional right now. The world might end tomorrow right? Well everyone has felt like this before and will again, the world has always kept on spinning. If you want call for a chat and we can walk you through your options in a balanced manner. We plan for this stuff every day so the current financial mayhem is all part of the cycle.
18.01.2022 We work with some pretty smart people and often get the question Can you just send me something that shows me how it all works? Well, not really. We think the journey is just as important as the destination.
18.01.2022 After all the school and then training we know Doctors start later in life than most professions. Our goal is to have you financially stable pretty shortly afterward. Sure you may want to continue working after 90 but it should be a choice, not because you need the money.
17.01.2022 There is no doubt that we have had a great run since the GFC. As the storm clouds start to gather ask yourself do you have a plan? We sure do.
16.01.2022 Premiums for insurance have been going up recently. Insurance is something a lot of us need but we also want to make sure we don’t pay any more than we need to. There is a battle raging in financial services right now and nobody is winning. We are supported by our licensee Synchron Aust but they still have to make the best of it in the face of huge change. The govt showed in this weeks budget that it is obviously committed to small businesses like ours and there are some smart cookies like Senator Jane Hume that are being pulled between Insurers, Regulators and Advisers that face some very difficult choices. When all is said and done I believe we all want the same thing which is for all Australians to be able to access good quality affordable cover.
15.01.2022 If you need to talk to someone who’s not at work or friends and family we are always here and confidential. Of course we are only qualified to provide financial advice but we are human beings first and foremost.
15.01.2022 Moving to the next decade with some great plans for our clients but lets look back first. WE had 2 new team members come on board. Glennie and Liz. Who have both been learning heaps from Janine before she takes a few months out to look after the next generation of Northie (currently overdue and as stubborn as mum). WE processed a few claims, one of which was under a month after policy application completed! That slippery case set a new record. WE had some very interesting m...edical conditions and still managed to provide cover to those considered uninsurable. WE had a stellar year in our Super platforms (lets not get used to these kind of high returns please) YOU, most importantly, help us grown through word of mouth, online reviews and recommendations. We love working with clients who come with a warm handover and already know that the reason WE exist is to serve YOU. See more
14.01.2022 Is 2020 going to be the year that environmentally sustainable funds management strategies move from being a pet projects or satellite investments into the mainstream? We certainly hope so.
13.01.2022 Having a whole lot of in depth conversations with jnr Drs this week. Last night I had a conversation with a Dr that had obviously spent so much time studying and working they never stopped to consider what if. That person got in touch as they were worried about protecting themselves but after a good chat realised that they were just fine and didnt even need help. We too value connecting with our clients and really understanding who they are before we provide advice on what they need. Numbers are important but only make up part of the story.
12.01.2022 Tracking down lost super is not always such an easy task but the system is slowly improving. The ATO refunding rather than sitting on lost accounts is a big step in the right direction.
11.01.2022 So these last few weeks have been very busy. The majority of our clients are in final stages of training and fellowships and/or considering maternity leave so the changes to income protection coming April 1 has meant a whole lot of worried people knocking on our door. A huge shout out goes to Glennie and Liz who have been working at full speed and even extra hours or weekends. Even Janine has been chipping in with expert guidance over a few keeping in touch days while on mat leave. Feeling pretty lucky to be part of a team that is dedicated to doing the very best for our clients every single day.
11.01.2022 With the recent rise in measles cases I thought this might be a good share for a Friday morning. By the way its not cheap for MMR in Australia, its free.
09.01.2022 Interesting briefing today with #businessnews and Treasurer Ben Wyatt. While it might feel like this year has not been all roses the numbers say that in many cases businesses in WA are in a better position than they were this time last year. Quite surprising how good the outlook for WA really is. Not quite sure why we bought so many cars though.
09.01.2022 With only a little over one month till the end of year (yep it’s that close) we are looking forward to putting the madness that has been 2020 behind us. Unfortunately, it looks like 2021 is going to see some pretty crummy income protection products as all that’s available to our clients. As many clients are in early stages of their careers these new offerings will be very concerning for young mothers and new practice owners that may have variable incomes. Check out the Insig...hts section of the website if you want to nerd out with us. If you have been sitting on the fence or are unsure of if you have good cover please get in touch. For our existing clients, talk to your friends and colleagues this week. We don’t offer referral fees or have promotion rewards. What we do offer is good advice that protects as much of our friends, family and community as we can and our strongest advocates have always been our clients. At NOR it’s always about you, and those closet to you. See more
09.01.2022 Phew! Well there goes what has to have been the craziest financial year Ive seen since I started in a planning practice in 1997! We have more than doubled the size of the NOR team and the number of clients we served this year. We had the best end of calendar year on record for investments we have ever had and then, to keep us guessing, it all got wiped in March... only to come back again?!? Reminding us why strategy is so important and trying to time the market is for sucke...rs. Earlier this year (feels like a decade ago) we saw some of the biggest changes to life insurance in my memory, and there are more to come. Its been a wild one and we have had some triumphs and some trials but I still feel lucky to have a great team behind me and some amazing clients who remind me on a daily basis why I do this job. -Shaun C Edit: Oh and there is that whole pandemic thing but Im sure youve heard. 09.01.2022 Well March is quickly shaping up to be our busiest month in history! Changes to income protection coming April 1st mean we are moving fast to secure good contracts for clients. Big thanks to our new team members (hired guns) Sarah and Monique and the rest of the team for the overtime. Thankfully, we are still keeping up with demand!
08.01.2022 Remember today that 50% off anything, or everything, is still a waste of money if you dont need it.
07.01.2022 Without being political, I have always been of the opinion that asking governments to change a marketplace is a largely pointless exercise. The start of 2020 looks to be heralding a new age for investment and sustainability is at the forefront. For many, Superannuation is the largest liquid asset they have. Sure its important to vote for heads of government but choosing where your money is spent and invested makes a far stronger statement. We are still in early days but ESG investing is gaining ground fast and is getting not only cheaper but more mainstream every day...and who knows, might even provide better returns. Only time will tell where this all goes but we will always keep trying to provide our clients with investment options that suit their needs now, and in the future that we all share.
07.01.2022 Had the privilege of being present for this recording with Dr Steve Peterson. If you do fancy a unique perspective on life give this a listen.
06.01.2022 Hello out there in GP land. Ever wish you had a quick reference for MBS codes? Your friends at Western Australian General Practice Education and Training - WAGPET must have been thinking the same thing. Hope this is helpful northies!
06.01.2022 Long weekend? Remember kicking back with an ultra sized newspaper and a coffee and taking the time to digest a good read? It can be rare to find the time these days but this is a good one, worth the time.
05.01.2022 A great explanation from an ex adviser and educator Glen James. Thought this might be helpful to anyone trying to get their head around insurance options.
05.01.2022 As this financial year draws to a close we are trying to predict the future yet again. If things werent so crazy Im sure it would be easier but its hard to walk past the opportunity for a good tax deduction when it arises, even during a perfect storm.
05.01.2022 One month VS one week. Nobody knows what is going to happen. Have a plan. Stick to the plan. Dont get caught in the emotion of the moment.
05.01.2022 Big credit today to Senator Jane Humes office for letting us know that getting in touch back in April played some part in us now being able to operate almost completely online (yes there are a couple of hold outs). Legislation is moving very fast this year and, as you can imagine, being able to certify ID online and accept digital signatures has been a hot topic. Its great to know that we have people in Canberra that are looking to help us serve clients across Australia efficiently and effectively at a time when they need it most.
03.01.2022 Announcement. Effective immediately NOR are implementing social distancing measures. We are still running at full capacity but will not be taking meetings in person. We apologise for any inconvenience.
02.01.2022 Just like that November has arrived and with it the silly season!
02.01.2022 This year is certainly starting off with a lot of questions so we thought why not share some insight. This has all been going on for some time but if you are not an adviser, or work with one, you are probably blissfully unaware of the maelstrom in financial advice right now. Since its inception 4 years ago NOR, and many other forward thinking businesses across Australia, have been anticipating change and adapting their offering to clients. This all comes as little or no surprise to us but we are constantly evolving and learning from clients and peers alike. Hope you enjoy the read Northies!
01.01.2022 As of March next year if you dont have an Agreed value Income Protection policy in place. You wont be able to find one. If you are considering Maternity leave or starting your own business this may mean you wont get what you are paying for if you need to make a claim as only indemnity contracts will be offered. Sustainability in a low interest rate/ high claim environment has been a problem in recent times. APRA is taking steps to address this by limiting benefits. Long story short. No bells and whistles for anyone come March.
01.01.2022 Well I dont know about the rest of you Northies but we are looking forward to a calm Easter at home! March was a HUGE month for us, and we are still double checking nothing got missed in the mayhem, but we also know many more people need our help and guidance right now. If you have questions or want to sit down over a virtual cuppa dont hesitate to get in touch.
