25.01.2022 Honoured to be recognised as a finalist in the Business xCellence Awards 2020. Truly a team effort. Thank you to Nicole Scott, Kathy Cavanagh, Neridah McDonald and Jacquie Baillie.

25.01.2022 If most of us agree that meetings make it harder for us to get work done, why do we have so many? Here are 6 tips for effective remote meetings:

24.01.2022 Trust is the most important business and brand asset you manage, especially in relationships with clients, employees, and stakeholders. Our economy works because people trust each other and the businesses they support.

24.01.2022 I feel like Im stuck, Weve reached a stalemate, I dont know how to move forward. All statements made by clients that weve worked with on HR-related issues. Issues that were at best highly distracting and time-consuming, and at worst, holding the business back. What real conversations should be happening in your business that are not?... Business is fundamentally an extended conversation with peers, customers, and team members. While many fear real, it is the unreal conversation that should be feared unreal conversations can be expensive. Im sure we can all reflect on a situation when ignoring a pressing issue has cost us dearly. Conversations are the work of a leader. In order to lead effectively, leaders must have conversations that interrogate reality, provoke learning, tackle tough challenges and build effective relationships. A conversation is no place to hide it ought to be about, and grounded in, truth. 21.01.2022 Something’s not right you know it and your staff know it. Business used to hum. Now your employees are listless and your business culture is more lead balloon than blue sky thinking. Whether you term it ‘disengaged’ or ‘thoroughly apathetic’, it rings alarm bells for your business. You can only succeed in reaching your goals with the support of workers who are keen to learn, interested in how your business ticks and involved in its day-to-day running. Yet how do you achieve... this happy state in a shrinking labour market? How can you even identify what’s going wrong? We can help. Our comprehensive feedback process unearths problems buried deep in the workplace, highlighting what’s working and what’s not. Then we work closely with you on each challenge, offering creative solutions to help you achieve great workforce outcomes. #norgayhrconsulting #humanresources #management

19.01.2022 While many small businesses are being hit hard by the coronavirus crisis, others are prospering through the lockdown, with common themes running through all of them:

18.01.2022 The COVID-19 crisis has also made us reassess the meaning of teamwork. Asked to provide answers to a whole suite of new and unprecedented business questions, we were acutely aware that the wrong answers could be harmful. We decided multiple expert minds were better than one. Determined to seek out the most creative and relevant solutions in tough times, we ensured every decision was made by at least two senior HR managers. Some issues were so complex, we leveraged specialist ...skills and diverse experiences from across our team. Never before had I been so aware of the power of a solid team who work so well together I will be forever grateful to them. It was tricky too; we were increasingly being asked questions better suited to financial advisors, accountants or employment lawyers. Advice we gave now could lead to negative consequences and legal or HR claims down the track. So, to protect our reputation along with the fortunes of our clients, we set firm boundaries on the guidance we provided. Where necessary, we referred clients to experts within our own professional networks. It all served to strengthen our partnerships.

18.01.2022 Navigating JobKeeper can be tricky, especially when tensions are already high. But one thing you shouldnt do? Go to your accountant for HR advice! This is why...

17.01.2022 Australias legislative environment can be a nightmare scenario for small and medium-sized businesses. Just as you get a handle on HR rules, they change again. As your business grows, the problems grow with it . . . leaving you stranded in a mess of half-understood, half-finished documentation which exposes you to any number of compliance challenges. We offer industry expertise and trusted solutions to ensure full compliance with all human relations-based legal and statutory ...requirements. If you would like some no-nonsense advice, contact us today to find out how we can work with you.

16.01.2022 Small businesses tend to manage their people in an informal way. Business owners are able to rely on the personal touch as they usually know every employee. However, as businesses expand and employee numbers grow, it becomes more difficult to manage human resources in this way. When businesses reach this tipping point, they typically begin to think about investing in human resources (HR) expertise. Establishing an internal team to deliver on all aspects of HR can come with a hefty price tag this is where external HR expertise can really make sense. 16.01.2022 Its unquestionable, these are uncertain times and two things would appear to hold true. The first is that we have to relearn what we can rely on. The second is that the ability to think differently or creatively is becoming vital. Here are three things you can do to become adaptable, creative and resilient:

15.01.2022 Do you have questions about your legal obligations from a HR perspective? Australia’s legislative environment can be a nightmare scenario for small and medium-sized businesses. The moment you start to get a handle on things, laws are suddenly changed again. And unfortunately for businesses, as you grow, your problems grow in a direct positive correlation. ... This is where we come in. Learn how we ensure you are always compliant with all Human Relations-based Legal And Statutory requirements from our team of experienced professionals and leaders within the industry... #norgayhrconsulting #humanresources #management

15.01.2022 Employee engagement is a personal matter for each individual. To significantly increase employee engagement you need to understand the passions, motivations, and expectations of the individual. Our Individual Employee Engagement Assessment maps the individual employees passions, motivations, expectations and the degree to which their expectations are perceived to be already being fulfilled. 14.01.2022 Theres no arguing that 2020 is a year of uncertainty. With this comes a certain level of uneasiness, a shifting of priorities and, for many, substantial changes in their personal and professional lives. While its important to stay positive, its no surprise that for many staff members morale might be at an all-time low. Maintaining and elevating employee morale during these times is no easy feat, but should become a business number one priority. Here are five ways to bolster staff morale during challenging times:

12.01.2022 Like attracts like in the world of commerce. If you fill your business with people who share your beliefs, goals and work ethic, youre likely to end up with a truly dynamic organisation. If only it always worked like this in practice! You know people are your number one asset. So, why do 46% of new hires fail within 18 months and only 19% turn out to be top performers, according to a Leadership IQ study?... We can help you get it right. Norgay HR Consulting takes the guesswork out of hiring, using a precision pre-employment assessment process. Contact us to find out how we can work with you.

11.01.2022 As business owners, we like to think were in control. Then COVID-19 came along and changed the game. No longer in complete control, we were doing business in a constant state of catch-up. The problem was, there were no ready-made answers to all the questions we had never been asked before. Yet the lives of people and the survival of our clients businesses hung in the balance. Our team was challenged as never before.... Its hard to work out a plan when information changes weekly, daily, even hourly. But thats what we had to do for our clients when the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in March this year. It made us realise what agility really means. Plans we drew up one day were made redundant, or at least inadequate, by stimulus measures declared by authorities the next day. Decisions had to be re-thought each week, as new rules were introduced. JobKeeper came as a welcome respite from financial stresses for our clients. It enabled redundancies to be rescinded and changes to working conditions to be reviewed Were still refining, still thinking, still targeting innovative client solutions. Its a learning process, after all!

11.01.2022 As Australia slowly starts to rebuild in the wake of the global pandemic, employers everywhere face some unprecedented dilemmas. Social distancing measures are gradually being rolled back, allowing more people to get back to the physical workplace. Yet how do your staff feel about that? Are they eager? Anxious? Excited? Resistant? Do you feel confident you can keep them safe? Our own client research reveals some interesting things. The good news so far, so good, with an ove...rwhelming tick for leaders who are reportedly keeping their staff informed, settled and safe. The bad news many workers are still twitchy and ambivalent about resuming work as usual in the public setting of the workplace. Find out how employers can build a bridge back to work in our latest blog:

09.01.2022 Hiring the right people forms the foundation of any business. But still to this day, we see so many businesses following a flawed hiring process - only conducting interviews! Relying on interviews alone when selecting staff is flawed for a number of reasons. Heres why... + The interviewer suffers the halo effect where theyre overly impressed by one or more personal characteristics and therefore assume that everything else must be perfect... + Depending on their personality, sometimes interviewers are looking for a reason to reject a candidate. Ive seen negative responses given twice the weighting of positive ones, and candidates rejected after a single error, despite multiple positive responses + Weve experienced interviewers fall into the recency trap, whereas a result of a few bad interviews in a row, the next person who performs satisfactorily has been inaccurately rated as outstanding. The reverse is also true + Often candidates who are just like me (the interviewer) are automatically given higher ratings even though the job may not require someone just like them So, what other methods can you use in addition to interviews? We take a look at one of our articles...

07.01.2022 Work has meaning when we care.

07.01.2022 We recently helped one of our clients who is a travel business employing 8 staff. The business is particularly well known for their cruise packages and expertise. Then came along COVID-19. The impact was immediate and devastating. The CEO found herself having to make quick decisions about all aspects of the business. One of the most overwhelming areas was understanding her options and obligations when it came to staff in an environment which was changing day by day. We began ...by helping our client to navigate through the various government packages available to support her business to survive. Mindful always of the increased risk of future HR and legal claims, we guided our client through her options and backed up her decisions with the necessary documentation and processes. Like many businesses, this travel client has had to make adjustments. With travel budgets cut, and travel restrictions in place, our client has adjusted their brands message to relate more to what travel options are available. If you need assistance as a result of COVID-19, then please contact us today to find out how we can work with you.

07.01.2022 One of the most overwhelming areas for business owners and leaders during the pandemic has been understanding their options and obligations when it comes to staff, in an environment that is changing day by day. That is why this particular case study was a true success story for this client and our team at Norgay HR. It certainly has been a challenging time for business owners. In fact, all of our team members have well over 15 years of experience in HR, yet even we have had to face obstacles weve never seen before. But this story of a travel business really demonstrates a major success story...

06.01.2022 Thank you Deb for your feedback.

05.01.2022 The experiences from past recessions and crises suggest that covid-19 is likely to transform three features of our work lives: job satisfaction, ethical leadership and trust.

02.01.2022 In 2016 Patrick Lencioni brought out the follow-up book to his The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, "The Ideal Team Player: How to Recognise and Cultivate the Three Essential Virtues". Ideal team players, as Lencioni describes them, are Hungry, Humble and (emotionally) Smart - these are his "3 Virtues." It is rare for people with only one of the three virtues to survive long in most organisational cultures. But sometimes, people with two of the three can exist and wreak havoc on teams. And, when we look at our teams through this particular lens, we uncover interesting insights into potential hires, people already on our teams, or even ourselves. Click on the link below to read more about the 3 virtues:
